Just got back. Superb result. First half we dominated should have been 3 up at half time. Second half was extremely scrappy and we gave the ball away far to much but despite that defence held out really well and then into injury time Reid missed a sitter.

Excellent support and thought that Todd and Johanssan were immense, they defended well against all the ariel threat that Bolton posed. At last some daylight and we can look forward to the new year.

Winning away at WW - best Christmas present of the lot!

Every player was up for the cause today. Slowly but surely the confidence is growing and we are now a million miles away from the pushovers that we were three months ago.

Our defending was very good from front to back, but special mention should go to Nissa and Todd who were excellent in dealing with anything that they could throw at us.

There wasn't a great deal of fluent football but we were by far the better team.

Come on you blues!!

Good afternoon out at the Freezeblock, fantastic piece of skill from Dickov to score, Nissa and Todd were untroubled all afternoon, they limited the Trotters to long throws by JJ and dealt with Boltons set piece threat impeccably.

Have a feeling that the club has turned a corner under Hughes, with a couple of extra players , comfortable mid table looks increasingly likely.

Fantastic Result!!

Well played all the boys, but especially all the back four. Left Brad with very little to do considering how many long throws and free kicks notlob had.

BTW why is El Hadji Diver allowed to keep on flopping over with no hint of a yellow card??

Fantastic win.

A much-maligned, maligned by me as much as anyone, Garry Flitcroft, deserves a bit of praise. He is no longer the player he used to be but his return to the team has brought that defensive solidarity that we've been craving for.

There's no doubt he is a considerable improvement on Tugay because he can tackle.

I still see Robbie Savage as an upgrade on Flitty (but an excessively expensive one) but I'm very glad that the guy is now deserving his not inconsiderable wage - something that has not been the case in the past.

BTW: Mokoena may have a hard time breaking the Nisse - Todd partnership.

Four points, three places and a superior goal difference above 18th is a very happy place to be compared with what we were all fearing after the 0-4 at Chelsea.

Since that game, our record is as follows -

Pl W D L F A Pts

10 2 7 1 12 10 13

The previous 10 league games before that (5 under Souness) -

Pl W D L F A Pts

10 1 3 6 7 22 6

Although our upturn in form hasnt been groundbreaking, Hughes has clearly made us more solid and a much tougher nut to crack. It all points towards a much better 2005 than we've had 2004. Fingers crossed.

A great Bank Holiday Tuesday and thanks Rovers for a belated prezzie tinykit.gif

Just listened to BFS and he is absolutley gutted at getting beat by BRFC.

The defensive quality showed through today and obviously the hard work is beginning to pay off, well done the back room team.

Now then if only they can work a little magic on Bothroyd and Stead and get them firing on all cylinders then we could go on a decent run.

Still a little concerned about Brad refusing to step off his line.

Still a little concerned about the lack of calmness when the chances do arrive.

Still VERY concerned about Jim's refusal to accept that one day, yes, just one day Rovers and its supporters can be optimistic and that they might just actually win a hot headed derby match at the Breezeblock.

Happy New Year all, off to sunnier climes for a while and back for the Bolton game at HOME tinykit.giftinykit.giftinykit.gif

Good stuff from the Rovers this afternoon against an admittedly poor Bolton side. Todd and Johannsen outstanding and Dickov led the line brilliantly against two Bolton ogres.

The side looks galvanised - well organised and unlikely at any point to conceded a goal.

I'd heard Bolton supporters say that the "long ball" criticism levelled against them is unfair. But having seen it at first hand, how can they complain?? Bringing on the 6 feet 3 inches 48 year old Les Ferdinand to add to what already looked like a rugby team sums up their approach to the game and their pitiful approach as a club.

Just be glad you support the Rovers. Always.
