Bobby G Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Looks like the guy might get his chance next week against Pompey,or maybe it will be too soon for him.

seahawkdad Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Thank you! I might send it as a question when he is featured in Ewood E-males in a future matchday programme! I asked on the DC United forum of BigSoccer. Here's the repsonse: "I know he has a serious girlfriend, not sure if they're engaged or not." So there's hope. By the way, he also will have a life after football is done. He graduated from one of the top-flight US universities, Stanford. And he's got a brain to go along with the athletic skills. From his college years: "Stanford senior midfielder Ryan Nelsen has been named the 2000 Collegiate Men's Soccer NSCAA/adidas Scholar Athlete of the Year. The native of Christchurch, New Zealand was chosen for his excellence academically as well as athletically." Best of luck
92er Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 He won't be able to play until his international clearance comes through.
Skinny Dynamite Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 (edited) In reply to previous posts with Kiwi inquiries...other Kiwis in the leagues are, from memory... Leo Bertos _ Rochdale Chris Killen _ Oldham David Mulligan _ Doncaster Rory Fallon _ Swindon Mark Paston _ Walsall Pasty - top man- went from Bradford to Walsall in the off-season...excellent keeper ... Leo Bertos can play a bit too, apparently he was his side's best player v Charlton... btw, did u know that Nelsen was an outstanding cricketer at youth level who was on target to play for NZ...he captained an NZ u-17 side that also included Craig McMillan I think... rog of the rovers Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 (edited) can he play right back? if so I think he may start in against Pompey, My team would be FRIEDEL NELSEN TODD MOKOENA JOHANSSON EMERTON THOMPSON FLITCROFT © PEDERSEN DICKOV STEAD subs GALLAGHER JOHNSON ENCKLEMAN McEVELEY REID Edited January 10, 2005 by rog of the rovers
FourLaneBlue Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 This Mokoena guy (nicknamed The Axe!) ain't exactly a softy. Quoted in The Sun today - “I was sent off against England. I had a couple of fights with Heskey — but they were sporting fights. When you play hard you put your leg where it hurts the most — no pain is no gain. " “There are some very good strikers at this level but I’m here to stop them from scoring.” Should get on very well with Andy Todd. BLACKBURN new-boy Aaron Mokoena — known as The Axe — has warned Premiership strikers he is prepared for a scrap.
philipl Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 Not the brightest thing to do perhaps. The refs will be watching for him now and no doubt the Pompey players will be looking to "test him". As if we don't already have the worst disciplinary record in the Prem.
happygilmore Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 An article from way back in 99, didn't realise that we've got an Ivy League graduate playing for Rovers. However it's good to see that we've finally got a defender with these qualities, Even as a schoolboy, Nelsen had leadership skills, an ability to read a game, and excellent technical skills, Halligan noted. Gamble pays off for Nelsen and NZ
DanLad Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 Stanford is not in the Ivy League. It's a stunning University, anyway. Fantastic campus and fabulous weather! Slightly different than Blackburn in Jan! I hope he settles in OK. Dan Lad
skip24 Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 I am not happy with the signings we haven't bought any class that we are lacking. I don't see us strengthening the squad, its getting weaker and weaker! hughes needs to pull his finger out and buy players with vital experience especially at centre half and also we need another striker to play alongside dickov!
Yorkshire Blue Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 Wait til you've seen them play, for crying out loud! They have over fifty international caps between them, so I don't think their experience can be called into question.
Darwen Rover Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 Guys, How was mokoenas performance on the weekend... ?
Alan75 Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 To quote Scotty in the Cardiff game topic. Mokoena looked classy. He used the ball well and wasn't frightened to put his foot in - he looks promising.
todd_could_take_tyson Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 I think Mr Hughes has gone cold on the South African captain Mokoena. The only quotes on him by the manager were 2 weeks ago when he came for a 2 day trial, since then nothing has been reported, not even in the L.E.T. If only Hughes had stayed Cold.
