[Archived] Rovers Get Together In Melbourne

Recommended Posts

As the Rovers game against Arsenal on Saturday the 19th of March will be televised at a decent time of night (23:45), I thought it would be a great idea to organise a get together, this time in Melbourne. This gives Australian based Rovers' fans chance for to meet fellow Roverites.

We could meet up before the game, have a meal, some beers and then hopefully see a Rovers' home win. rover.gif You can even make a weekend of it, tell the wife/girlfriend that the shopping is great in Melbourne and then later tell her you're off to the pub Saturday night to watch the football.

The only pub I know in Melbourne that would show the game is the Keepers Arms on the corner of Queensberry and Peel Street North Melbourne, but the Melbourne guys might have a better suggestion than that.

So how about it? Airfares are cheap and the accommodation wouldn’t be too expensive as the weekend of the 19th isn’t Australian Grand Prix weekend.

SR....

keepers arms is a good choice but unfortunately if Celtic have a game live that night it will be shown instead as the Celtic suppoorters club meet there... pretty awesome sight mind you, walking into a packed pub where EVERYONE has green and white shirts on (except me)..

My suggestion would be the Charles Dickens in the CBD.... Other suggestions are welcome (but not the casino)

Charles Dickens would be the go as Chris said.

There is a Celtic game at 2:00 that Sunday morning, so there's a chance that the Keepers Arms will be filled with Celtic fans, meaning we might miss the coverage of the game. Although we could go and exchange notes about Souness wink.gif

So, we all meeting at the Charles Dickens on the 19th?

Having a chat to the missus over breakfast.

She says :"This looks interesting" I say"What is?" She replies "There's a conference in Melbourne I'm interested in going to", "When's that?" I reply.

"MARCH THE 19TH" comes the answer biggrin.gif

I may well make it!!

It's fate SAR, even the wife is saying to go rolleyes.gif

Where the dickens is the Charles Dickens? 290 Collins St Melbourne (Betw. Elizabeth & Swanston Sts)

Is it close to the city? Yep, it a quick walk from Flinders Street Station

The other questions I'm not too sure, although I think it would be a very quick cab ride from the Casino to the Charles Dickens.

does it have good ale?

Does it have good food?

I was thinking of staying at the Casino, is it close to there?

Don't think they serve Coopers Dave.

Its not a bad pub, its where I watched a couple of games when I was over in Melbourne for the cricket.

The casino would be within walking distance but after a few beers a cab mite be better but at that time on Sunday morning it will be hard to get a cab
