Sydney Rovers Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 (edited) As the Rovers game against Arsenal on Saturday the 19th of March will be televised at a decent time of night (23:45), I thought it would be a great idea to organise a get together, this time in Melbourne. This gives Australian based Rovers' fans chance for to meet fellow Roverites. We could meet up before the game, have a meal, some beers and then hopefully see a Rovers' home win. You can even make a weekend of it, tell the wife/girlfriend that the shopping is great in Melbourne and then later tell her you're off to the pub Saturday night to watch the football. The only pub I know in Melbourne that would show the game is the Keepers Arms on the corner of Queensberry and Peel Street North Melbourne, but the Melbourne guys might have a better suggestion than that. So how about it? Airfares are cheap and the accommodation wouldn’t be too expensive as the weekend of the 19th isn’t Australian Grand Prix weekend. Edited January 12, 2005 by Sydney Rovers

dave birch Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 I've found Qantas at $110 return!!!!!, Mind you it doesn't give much time for drinking
Chris_Roe Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 SR.... keepers arms is a good choice but unfortunately if Celtic have a game live that night it will be shown instead as the Celtic suppoorters club meet there... pretty awesome sight mind you, walking into a packed pub where EVERYONE has green and white shirts on (except me).. My suggestion would be the Charles Dickens in the CBD.... Other suggestions are welcome (but not the casino)

Sydney Rovers Posted January 14, 2005 Author Posted January 14, 2005 (edited) There is a Celtic game at 2:00 that Sunday morning, so there's a chance that the Keepers Arms will be filled with Celtic fans, meaning we might miss the coverage of the game. Although we could go and exchange notes about Souness So, we all meeting at the Charles Dickens on the 19th? Edited January 14, 2005 by Sydney Rovers
emerton Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 i think dickens i probably the safer option, keepers arms is a decent venue though.
SouthAussieRover Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 Having a chat to the missus over breakfast. She says :"This looks interesting" I say"What is?" She replies "There's a conference in Melbourne I'm interested in going to", "When's that?" I reply. "MARCH THE 19TH" comes the answer I may well make it!!

wicklowrover Posted January 19, 2005 Posted January 19, 2005 Looks like Charles Dickens is the go... although much prefer the Keepers Arms - maybe thats just the inheritted Celtic fan in me
dave birch Posted January 19, 2005 Posted January 19, 2005 Where the dickens is the Charles Dickens? Is it close to the city? does it have good ale? Does it have good food? I was thinking of staying at the Casino, is it close to there?
neekoy Posted January 19, 2005 Posted January 19, 2005 Will be pressed due to work issues but hopefully next time will be a go'er, whenever you guys want to catch up in Brisbane I will be there in a flash
dave birch Posted January 19, 2005 Posted January 19, 2005 (edited) was in Brisbane earlier this (sorry, last) year. Caught up with Trooper for an ale or three, despite the best efforts of Virgin Blue to keep me in Sydney. Edited January 19, 2005 by dave birch
Sydney Rovers Posted January 19, 2005 Author Posted January 19, 2005 Where the dickens is the Charles Dickens? 290 Collins St Melbourne (Betw. Elizabeth & Swanston Sts) Is it close to the city? Yep, it a quick walk from Flinders Street Station The other questions I'm not too sure, although I think it would be a very quick cab ride from the Casino to the Charles Dickens.

Its not a bad pub, its where I watched a couple of games when I was over in Melbourne for the cricket.
Aussie_Rover Posted January 19, 2005 Posted January 19, 2005 yep i'll be there, be great to meet other aussie rovers

The casino would be within walking distance but after a few beers a cab mite be better but at that time on Sunday morning it will be hard to get a cab Edited January 19, 2005 by Aussie_Rover
Glenn Posted January 19, 2005 Posted January 19, 2005 Don't think they serve Coopers Dave. I can remember Cooper Pale, Coopers Sparkling, Cooper Dark, Cooper Mild, Coopers DB, and Coopers Regency Light ..... But not Coopers Dave ! Maybe that's what DB stands for, Dave's Beer
emerton Posted January 19, 2005 Posted January 19, 2005 (edited) can we bring this up again in march to remind me because i have a really bad memory Edited January 19, 2005 by emerton
