Ferguson Hands in Transfer Request

No Nay Never

Recommended Posts

Go, go now, and don't come back.

Thompson is scoring goals and playing well from the centre of midfield, and alongside Savage we probably have to most tenacious midfield partnership in the league.

We wont miss you Barry.

If last night is anything to go by then Thompson is not playing well. Yes he scored two goals (which then meant him playing the glory boy again, shooting from anywhere to get the hatrick, when better options were available!), but didn't command the middle if the park.

I hope the Thompson/ Savage partnership works, but I much prefer Thommo on the right. unsure.gif

From reading the Rangers news, I would say to all in the "Ferguson has to go" camp:

- there is a story questioning whether Rangers have the cash to go above a £3m offer. (Remember JW has made a statement which makes it impossible for Rovers to now accept only £3m for Ferguson). Rangers are having to sell to buy- Arvedladze is going.

- McLeish has gone on Rangers World saying Rangers have a number of targets (including Nonda from Monaco) and that supporters have to be prepared to accept they will fail on some of them.

This is probably an invitation for Barry to start to throw his toys out of the Rovers' pram. Lets see if he has it in him.

It is also a signal that Rangers are willing to abandon him and his scheming agent.

If Rangers can't make an acceptable bid, that really would be a nightmare scenario.

You'd have a player unhappy at Rovers, who'd be unhappy anywhere but Rangers, who can't afford him.

How could that put him in the right frame of mind to play for us? He'd either play in the first team, but at best be as tepid as ever, or be banished to the reserves, in which case his value would dwindle to somewhere probably beloiw what Rangers are currently offering.

What a mess. Rangers are completely out-of-order in this, they've been as bad as Brum.

..... because they've unsettled our player ?

Some would say that is what we did to Birmingham over Savage.

Agreed.

We can't have it both ways.

But we made a serious bid for teh player with every intention of getting him.

Rangers made a joke bid and are seeking to make our captain as unsettled as possible so as to force through a transfer to suit their straightened financial circumastances.

Totally different.

I don't think blame should lie with clubs on this - you should look at the players. It is every club's right to make an offer for any player. Frankly, we could fax an offer of £1m to Liverpool for Gerrard - would it unsettle him - no. Similarly, Birmingham with Dickov. The problem here is Ferguson and Ferguson alone.

Quite right Bryan. Our first bid for Savage was rejected as unacceptable by Birmingham and we made an improved bid. Rangers have had one bid rejected - have they made any moves to come back in with an improved offer yet? No - if they were really serious, or had the cash for that matter they would have made a better bid than the one they did make. All they've achieved now is to unsettle our player leaving everyone in a no win situation. Unless they come back with a better offer we may have to cut our losses in the summer, which is a crying shame given the money we spent on him.

Instead of just having a go at Fergie - why hasn't anyone mentioned what a good job with the media Hughes is doing in all this. None of the ranting and raving that we saw with Steve Bruce - just a measured response that he wants Fergie to be part of what he is building. No digs about him wanting to go back to a lesser league, smaller club, no mention of ambition etc.

He has nicely left the door open for the Board to either reject the transfer request - or put a valuation on him that his talent deserves (has to be more than £3m). He has also given Fergie the opportunity to stay if he can get his personnel issues resolved.

Though only time will tell how good a manager he is (after all Hodgson had a brilliant start to his time at Rovers) - his handling of the media and players has (to date) been first class.

To 1864, Scotty, Duff's Minder, Blue Phil et al:

Is Boumsong worth £8m?

Is £3m a fair price for Savage?

Are Rovers handling the Ferguson saga better or worse than Birmingham handled Savage or Rangers handled Boumsong?

PS Cn and Tris- laugh.gif

I think the club is handling it aswell as they can. Unfortunately we're still stuffed.

in answer to your questions

1. no

2, no

3. yes they most definately are. Rovers are not conducting their business in the papers, that is left to gold, bruce and sullivan as well as the whinging brummie fans, it is also left to fergie and his agent viola who are making all the noises (or rather not fergie its ust his agent) and old big eck and his numpty chairman. All Rovers are saying is yes they had a bid, yes he put a transfer request in and yes theyturned the bid down flat.

If he wants to go that badly and Rangers are not willing to pay our valuation, perhaps he could make up the difference from his own pocket? wink.gif

Whilst the Savage and Ferguson situations are very similar, the main difference being the realism of the bids made, at least Rovers have handled both cases with credit. Both Birmigham and Rangers have acted deplorably throughout. It makes me sick.

I hope the following doesn't mean we'll give in too cheaply - from Skysports:

"Hughes admits he may have to prepare for life without Ferguson.

"We will look at the likes of Robbie Savage, David Thompson and Garry Flitcroft," continued the Rovers boss.

"So I have good options."

Thank you 1864, if Rovers are handling the situation better than Brum and Rangers did Savage and Boumsong, then they are better positioned to get an over-valued price for Ferguson than those two did successfully for Savage and Boumsong.

The reality is fans' anxiety, players' true value etc. go through the window in these situations. Recent history teaches us that players in these circumstances ONLY get their move when the selling club gets something CLOSE to its own over-valuation of the player.

Rangers have already signalled where they could be going to when they tried to suggest Rovers had valued Ferguson at £5m.

They know they have to go to that price with their next bid to have any chance of getting him and frankly, its beginning to look like they've choked.

Rovers hold Ferguson's registration so have every right to drop him AND to fine or not to pay him if he is not abiding by the letter of his contract.

If Rangers stick at £3m, Rovers can run the odds which probably work out that they are better off running the risk of putting Ferguson on cold turkey. He has not been a big positive influence on the dressing room when he was happy so why should he be a big negative influence when he is not happy?

Ginger has a good point about making up the difference from Ferguson's own pocket. Rovers would stand to loose around £5m in wages and transfer value if this deal goes ahead as Rangers currently want it. I would think that Viola and Ferguson would be at risk of legal injunctions and damages actions if Rovers are forced to swallow that. No doubt Viola's UEFA Agent's License would be at risk.

In answer to your questions, there are over 50 moons in the Solar System and more are being discovered as telescopy improves. The A330 can do around 11,000km without a fuel stop- if you are asking about the A340-500, I think that can do 19,000km. Tony Blair- I don't know but he shouldn't be and the answer to the last question is a lemon. biggrin.gif

agreed. i continue to be struck by the fact that despite the current fad of managers/chairmen/players spouting off about anything and everything in the tone of petulant children, hughes' comments stand out as being considered and dignified. in the current situations between rovers and birmingham and rangers, there has been a marked difference between their ranting and constant whinging thru the media, and the aura of calm that seems to surround our replies.

easy this one

adult tickets across the board £10

junior tickets £5

under 10 £1

upper tier Darwen End fill it with school kids

This would ensure that with the alleged 2000 following from Colchester there would be a crowd of around 20k.

Looking at the ticket prices already issued Rovers have missed the boat sad.gif

Some transposed posts?

Everyone's favourite trade unionist spells it out. Savage's long contract enabled Brum to extract a big price. Ditto Rovers and Ferguson.

Hughes has just echoed what John Williams has said in his statement. The BBC coverage is much fuller than the selected Sky reporting which has been edited to give a slant towards Rangers.

Williams has indicated that it will be Friday at best and Monday probably before he has canvassed the views of the Board on Ferguson's transfer request- bang on, time being used to our advantage.

Big developments on Tyneside- Butt has broken down again with the hamstring problem. With Souness continuing to be at loggerheads with Kieron Dyer and the Geordie fans openly speculating about a Souness bid for Ferguson.....

Sell him back to Rangers if he doesn't want to play for us anymore! £4m-5m would be fair taken into account that we still owe them £2.5m, which of course should be cancelled out.

Then we should try to bring in Scott Parker with that money... rover.gif
