Sorry Modes I hate people being patronising, and I'm not trying to be here, but I really think you need to look twice at his performance today. Watch the first 5 minutes of the game and it says it all - I lost count of the amount of times he ran head down into defenders, wasting possession and a decent chance to attack. He must have done this two or three times in the first 5mins.

Throughout the game he did this and when he swapped with Pedersen, we lost any attacking edge we had. He never got wide enough, wasted a golden move in the second half and was just poor.

Now I think he started the season much better and was all for him being in the team, but he is being out-shone by Pedersen now and is going back to his performances of last season. Thompson or even Reid would be a better alternative on todays showing.

I agree with tcj_jones, Emerton was dissapointing today. He just got the ball, stuck his head down and ran, there was very little end product.

Why didn't Hughes have Stead, Matty or even Bothroyd on the bench instead of Johnson? It seems odd that he's ahead of all three and Stead or Bothroyd might have offered a more physical option which we might have needed.

Every decision except maybe the one he made to give Pedersen a yellow card for supposedly diving even though he clearly wasn't claiming a penalty!

When is Hughes gonna stop playing Johnson! He's not ready for the Premiership, too weak, can't hold it up. Give Stead a chance with Dickov.

Seems to me if you're going to play 2 small pacy players up front (Dickov, then Johnson) you have to find a way to get them into space. Sending them high balls is pointless. If that's the best service the MF can provide, then you need some height up front.

That said, if effort and work rate counted as goals, Dickov would lead the EPL in scoring, but it doesn't. Perhaps he could come in as a late striker when his energy can create something towards the end of the match. So few striking options...

Emerton plays as if he were fast, not the lumbering MF that he is. He's not dreadful, just seems like his style doesn't match his tools.

Nelsen was superb. Granted he's my favorite, but he simply won every ball in his area, and sent a few dangerous balls forward (where they came to nothing).

I think I saw Freidel reading the Sunday Times at one point, little to do....

Ref did a fine job...

He bloody was!!! Cheeky little sod!

Cant add much more to whats already been said about the game. Pedders, Toddy and Nelsen excelled (relatively speaking)

The atmosphere was good for most of the game.

A few other points...

The pillock in front of me chucking coins - if I ever see you do that again Ill give you a kicking, perhaps my bollocking wasnt enough?

What on earth happened to the gents toilets?

I thought the operation at Ewood was first class. The Blackburn End was open, andBlues selling hot stuff. The coaches all organised and the police escort very good.

And even after the game at Burnley things well smoothly, not seen anything like that for ages. All penned in.

Plus the black (am I allowed to say black?) player who was your second sub looked about 12. Does that mean I am getting old?  ohmy.gif

He was still far better than anything you lot had on the pitch however old he was biggrin.gif

I thought their French (?) winger (valiou or something?) was very impressive, as was Sinclair until his injury. Was also impressed by their manager, theyll do better under him than that fool Ternant.

"I thought it was a good Cup tie," said Mark Hughes after the match, before leaving on the coach to depart the ragged moorland of the hill trolls.

I suspect though that neutral observers watching on the Beeb must have been less than complimentary about the match.

On a dreaful pitch resembling a cow field, some of the football played was akin to the brown muck that's deposited from a cow's backside.

After Paul Dickov's bad miss in the second half, I must admit the words 'banjo' and 'arse' went together with the cow....

The match reinforced my view that we don't have sufficient attacking quality at the moment to be a top ten side in the Premiership.

Effort and commitment from the players: 7/10.

Entertainment and individual quality: 3/10.

Defensively we are reasonably sound, with Nelsen again impressive.

Going forward though, we fully reflect our league position in the bottom six of the Premiership.

I thought Emerton was a frustrating bugger again today - running into blind alleys, falling over, giving the ball away, head down and not aware of his team-mates ahead of him.

Our delivery from crosses and set pieces is poor and there's a lack of imagination and subtlety to our passing.

A Premiership side should really be able to create several good chances over 90 minutes against a team from a lower division. We failed to do that today.

BBC viewers must have gained the impression that an East Lancs derby is high on passion but low on quality.

Burnley's main threatening moves came from a nutter invading the pitch, while their only player with a hint of creativity is a Frenchman - Jean-Louis Valois.

For Rovers, the impression that viewers of the Beeb must have gained is that Blackburn are a workmanlike side, which lacks individual quality and flair.

Having watched it with my girly friends (apparently we have no good looking players!)

Hughes will have to bring back Matty when he's fit!

I thought ladies were too busy studying the tactical side of the game to worry about the looks of players... rolleyes.gif

Does that mean I am getting old?  ohmy.gif

You're as old as the person you feel CC.

I better not ask how old he is... wink.gif

I was watching the game with my mate (who is a Burnley fan) and he kept commenting that he was a fantastic talent but with no end product. Got to say that I agree with him. He skipped past many a Rovers defender only to lose the ball stupidly.

Now who does that sound like?........I think it begins Emer...

Interestingly watching on TV there didn't actually seem that much passion, not by either set of players anyway. The crowd were up for it but the players seemed to be going through the motions.

The BBC "pundits" didn't have one good thing to say about the match at the end.

Lets hope the game at Ewood is better but I think on that performance, the BBC may pick a different game for TV.

....but without the "skipped past many a" bit.

Personally, I've had enough of Emerton, and I don't have to watch him every week. I think we'd be better with either Reid or even Thommo in his place.

Their 5 man midfield snuffed out Tugay today; I expect him to have more of an influence in the replay when they will be pressed back more. But who will put one in the back of the net for us? It's either MGP or a scuffed Dickov effort these days; about time some of the other chipped in.

I agree with previous comments that we have 4 class players: Todd, Nelson, Savage and MGP. I think Gallagher, Neil, Nissa and Emerton would struggle to get a game in any prem club out of the bottom three. But we're still in the hat on Monday, and an excellent chance to stuff the Trolls on March 1st.

We were @#/? today, hope it improves for the replay. How Tugay gets to wear the shirt these days is beyond me, and what's happened to Tommo ?

With all police leave cancelled and more stewards than supporters, how did that prat get anywhere near Savage ? Had I still been wearing the blue serge today the staff would have been out and I'd have opened his head. mad.gif

The only consolation from the drive to Yorkshire ? They gave me my clothes back after my little sprint through the players......... blink.gif

I think Burnley`s mini has had a respray but we`ve traded in the Ferrari for a People- Carrier. Gallagher and Tugay were not in the game at all. I never thought we would lose this one but I`m already dreaming of a penalty shootout at Ewood. Johnson is not the answer yet and I do feel Stead has to given a chance. The highlights for me were at half-time when Jack Straw and Campbell were having a sparring match as to who was the better and more knowledgeable fan whilst thinking of the next election and the panel of Hansen, Moyes and Schmeicel who couldnt think of any highlights to discuss! At least we are in the hat for the next round.

Just back via Clitheroe & Chorley....... don't ask.

Lowlights:

Boring game.

Horrible pitch.

Held back 30 minutes afterwards.

Gallacher.

Highlights:

At the final whistle as the Dingles were departing

"F**k off, and wreck your town" chant.

Watching the wind farm on t'moors

That one-man pitch invasion. He knocked off three policemen's helmets. Oh dear, he'l have very sore kidneys in the morning.

The Big Question

I've never met Debs, but was it her coming out of the gents loo before kick-off? I think we should be told.

I'll be glad to see the game at E-wood instead of Turf moor, or is that "more turf please"? I think it will help the squad a lot, at times (granted on TV) the game just looked very slow... I'm thinking due to the pitch.

MGP and Sav were most impressive to me.... the entire defence played well, but to my mind should have done better against a solo man up front... at times (beginning of 2nd hal) their wingers were really giving us problems.

Still alive in the cup, and that might just be the best thing that can be said about the game...

yikes... good thing you didn't see the coverage of the game I was watching. I can think of at least 5 closeups of Nelsen. Who, although a good defender appears to have gotten beat with an ugly stick as a kid....

Mmmmmmmm dry.gif couldn't help but feel slighty frustrated at the final whistle. We had the majority of chances but failed to capitalise through lack of real quality up front.

How many times did we hopelessly punt the ball route one only to see it go straight back to Bumley...we were losing possession far to easily at times!!! mad.gif

One crumb of comfort I can take is that Valios was Bumleys best player by a country mile..the rest were mediocre and they shouldn't in all honesty give us too much trouble back at paradise.

Great support from BOTH sets of fans today but the brain dead pillock who wanted a toe to toe with Savage will be spending a little time at her Majesty's pleasure very soon...TOP BURNLEY BOY!! blink.giflaugh.gif
