I watched it on tv and think that we are getting the usual crap on here. The burnley fans claiming that Rovers had no chants and were quiet and the Rovers fans claiming that Burnley only responded to rovers chants etc. In reality i thought it was pretty much even in terms of the atmophere charts (bearing in mind dingles outnumbered us 4-1). Good noise from the Longside throughout and decent variety from Rovers fans as i heard 'no nay never', 'small town in y'shire' and 'chim-chimero'.

Not sure if this has been raised or not, but will Todd be banned for the replay?  He was on the verge of a ban and with today's yellow that makes it his fifth.  Will he miss the league match at the weekend or the cup replay?

Quick view as pointed out quality of football was poor but was it ever going to be anything else on that disgrace of a pitch. Same for both teams yes but suit the clarrots "style" of play more.

I can't say Burnleh ever REALLY troubled us, they huffed and puffed and moved the ball around but how many times did Brad have to save? We had the better chances for sure.

The Ref, I will agree for the most part had a good game but I thought he reached a point, about 15mins from the end when he became a homer. I am surprised there has been no mention yet of Roches handball, looked to me to be goal bound and he had his arm raised. Much like the penalty given to Sheff U at Arsenal.

Tugay was a disgrace to the shirt, Gally, for a local lad sorely dissappointed me, the lad does not even seem to put in the effort, I'm surprised MH goes with him. I would much rather have had Stead with Gally coming off the bench.

Someone criticised Neill on here, I don't know why I thought he was solid against the rather tricky Valois, thought LUcas did a good job. Nelsen and Todd solid, Nelsen was turned once but managed to recover, a real gem unearthed by MH there.

I have only set foot in the town of t'bas****s very rarely: yesterday, 2000 and 1977 being the last 3 occasions.

The striking image as you travel thru the area is that it is "the town that time left behind".  I've been to a few dumps and desolate areas over the years but this place is the dumps being on a par with the worst such as Gaza Strip, Lagos and more recently Banda Aceh.

As for the residents of said town a whole range of adjectives come to mind:  simple; inbreds; animal like ;moronic etc etc.

The most apt description is sub-human.  we must look to build a border wall aroud the hovel, with Israeli style passport control.

And Preston, Blackburn and the rest of East Lancs are oases (sp?) of charm and splendour?

Get a grip man, comment on the football, the crowd but don't pretend the whole of East lancs is anything other than it is: industrialised and very often derelict awaiting investment from the government's 'regeneration schemes'.

Here's a true story for you, make of it what you will.

My Wife is a Geordie. I met her when she was studying at Preston Uni (University Of Central Lancashire is its full title). I lived in the North East after her studies for around 5 years and moved back to Burnley for various family reasons.

Today we had to go to the Hospital in Blackburn with my 3 year old son as he needs to have his tonsils removed. We went to the Royal Infirmary and were dealt with by wonderful staff. I had to park just off the hospital on Ivy Street so I dropped my wife and son at the hospital then went to park.

After the pre op assesment we walked back to the car and my wife said - and I swear this is the absolute truth - 'its like being in a time warp isn't it'

Now i would suggest that Burnley and Blackburn (the towns) are very very similar. Both have some run down area's, both have suffered from the decline of the industry on which they were built, both are trying admirably to build a future for themselves.

Lovely story. What's the point? I can tell you too that my wife, who is American dislikes footy but enjoys watching a bit when we play you why? She finds the dingles similarity to the Hillbillies of the South here very amusing.

i lived in preston for 2 years, and loved every minute there, a very nice city but so student oriented its unreal

if i wasnt a student i probably wouldnt have liked it so much

having lived in preston and visited blackburn on a number of occasions i have to they are very different. Preston is more modern, but only because of the university. Blackburn is a nice town, i like it there.

but because i come from newcastle both seem smaller than i like, my point is people's interpretations on cities is based on where they come from and everyone has their views preconceptions

The whole day was a bit of an anti-climax to be honest. 

The atmosphere was nothing like as good as the last meeting at Turf Moor.  Our support seemed as flat as pancakes for most of the game.  Too many day-trippers this time around.  There was even a large section of our support sat down for the whole match.  But Longsider and his numpty mates can have no room to crow as Burnley's support was worse.  They only ever reacted to our songs and hardly ever seemed to start their own chants, and when they did sing we could hardly hear them and easily drowned them out.  Ewood will be better next week.

I'm normally a big advoate of people taking what enjoyment from football they choose too, even if they want to sit down, make no noise other than to moan, complain when people pass the to go to the bar and then leave 10 minutes early. If thats what they want then so be it. The way I see it is we can't fill Ewood even with them, so at least make them feel welcome so we can keep taking their £20 every game.

However, I feel than Dec 2000 went of too well in some ways, many of the Bovril Brigade who were scared away last time, turned up this time and diluted the normal away support ("It's just like being at home"). Hence the somewhat flat atmosphere.

That said, for every bovril drinking, tartan rug wearing fan we seemed to find balance by taking a 16 year old, drunken arsehole chav. Ripping down the bar sign ? Nice move lads, well classy. Ripping up seats ? good move. Launching stuff onto the field ? you are bright aren't you ? Thankfully these little f'wits turn up away as regulary as the bovril brigade do.

But whats the answer ? There isn't one. The days of us taking 3000 "hardcore" fans away have long since gone and as I said at the top, I'd rather be sat next to the bovril brigade rather than an empty seat.

... and for those that think Ewood will be better, your having a laugh aren't you ? Our home crowd has become so diltuted that even the BBE has massive silent sections now, let alone the JW and WS stands. It's mid-week, we can't fill it normally and I'd imagine half of those that got last minute tickets to boro to ensure a ticket for the turf will suddenly feel they have earn't enough "bragging rights" by being at the turf to miss this one.

Sorry to be negative, but thats the way I see it.

Many of the fans that were present don't go to Premiership games, but are still Rovers fans. I recognised faces from the days of Mackay, Saxton and Kendall.

They are no better and no worse than the rest. It was like a following from a different era and I suppose it was a fixture from another era - certainly the stadium was.

The gloved moron on the pitch was an example of the minority in every town, not football club, it's daft to tar Burnleys loyal support with the same brush. I doubt he's been to many (if any) games at the turf this season, regardless of his ban.

The fact that he punched a woman full in the face speaks volumes about the kind of person he is, I suspect he had a very rough night in the cells.

Lets not forget the idiot who tried to confront the referee after one of our games back in 95(?).

To answer a few things.

ENT is kind off available at Burnley - but the wait is long and the royal infirmary are very much the local specialists - certainly at kids level (was going to put paediatric but couldn;tspell it for the life in me) and we were advised to go there by the staff at Burnley.

Way back in this somebody asked the question about whether Burbley have suffered like many teams as a result of all seater, football and hype and the answer is very much yes. Home atmosphere is generally poor. Strangely we played Wolves in front of about 8000 and we made more noise and atmosphere than at an average home game. Stadium design does not help and the only good thing about the cricket field stand is the acoustics.

Another point somebody made was that perhaps we drowned each other out - ie we couldnt hear you for ourselves and vice versa - seems plausible.

Onto the replay. Our cheif exec said on radio yesterday we have been given 7000 tickets and - ' we should have no problem selling 7000 tickets' - I am not so sure. Its not on TV so that will help but I would bet we sell around 5000

the point is, despite all said on here the towns are very similar.

I to have american relatives who don't seem to feel the same as your wife - then again they are not hillbillies and so perhaps don;t have an accurate point of reference like your good lady blue.

You had the better chances - I already said that. Our style of play is actually to play more football than you perhaps expect - look at our team, we don;t have a big man to knock it upto.

the first plane read "Come on Burnley- The Circulation."

The Circulation is a WMC/social club that is near trurf morgue, and they obviously must have been behind it.

Thought Gally was poor, a real dissapointment and the less said about Emerton the better. He tries hard, but is so frustrating.

As for the Fans, i thought the atmosphere was great, and would agree that with both sets singing their hearts out, maybe we couldnt hear the others as much. I was a little dissapointed with the variety of the Burnley songs though, they only seemed to sing the usual 2 or 3.

as for the under 16's Longside Chav army at the end- i remember my first derby game.

There are similar looking streets in both towns. Ivy Street, however, is the Old Kent Road of Blackburn. I can't help feeling that a similar looking street found in Burnley would at least be an Oxford Road or Regency Street. I hate to compound old and used stereotypes but I am affraid that when it comes to Burnley they are true. I'm sorry but I felt horrible looking through the window of that coach yesterday. People shouldn't have to live like that. Last time I saw housing like that was a documentary about post war Pontins holidays. It's the twenty first century, lads. Even at that end of the M65. Keep up!

with ref to my idea of £10 for the return match, as its an extra match and the overheads are the same aprt from running the match all the money made is profit so its about many how money you make not if you will make money

the £10 idea is a way of saying thank you to the fans. I think that the game will be sold out, but it would be nice for the club to give something back to the fans rather then taking all the time. Ps the £10 games tend to be the ones that people do not want to attend and hence the price, however as stated above I think that this one most fans will want to go to

1 COURTS Hooligan Lancs

FIVE MONTHS JAIL FOR SOCCER HOOLIGAN

A serial football hooligan who ran on the pitch to confront soccer star Robbie Savage was today jailed for five months.

Jobless Michael Lewis was already serving a three-year ban from every football stadium in England and Wales before Sunday’s FA Cup tie between Blackburn and Burnley.

The 42-year-old Burnley fan invaded the pitch and headed straight for Rovers star Savage. He was seen by millions of TV viewers offering to fight the Welsh international, Burnley Magistrates’ Court heard.

Lewis, who has 24 previous convictions including for football-related incidents at Millwall, Blackpool and Wolverhampton, was warned off by players from both sides who protected Savage. He then ran to the touchline and assaulted two officers as they arrested him.

Lewis, from Nelson, pleaded guilty to breaching the football banning order, encroaching on the football pitch, using threatening and abusive behaviour towards Savage and assaulting two police officers.

He was jailed for five months and given another football banning order for 10 years.

Lewis was already serving a ban of three years from Wolverhampton magistrates in December 2002 for being drunk at a match and obstructing police officers.

Last March he breached the order by going to Burnley’s game at Millwall and was jailed for 28 days. He also invaded the pitch at Blackpool in 1992 and breached an exclusion order at Burnley in 1990. And he had been jailed for 18 months for assault in 1989.
