Manchester Blue Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 No it wouldn't but similarly I wasn't overly impressed when walking in a Glasgow bar to be confronted with 'up the IRA' songs. It works both ways and whilst the majority on both sides are not interested in the religious aspect, the vocal minority seem to keep it an issue.

Radagast Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 (edited) Quoting BRFC4EVAOMFGLOL11!!! Oh well Rad, at least someone argrees with me. If the guy said the rivalry is based 90% on non relgious grounds then why are basically no catholics supporting Rangers? Songs such as 'ftp' and Red Hand Salute wouldnt exactly endire yourself to supporting rangers if a catholic? Shut up, you stupid little boy. Edited February 19, 2005 by Radagast

Rovermatt Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 (edited) You might want to restructure that sentence if you want it to be taken seriously/understood... Anyway, let's not have this spiral off into a raging Old Firm debate. Please. I could talk all day about the subject but that's not what the topic relates to. Right Flopsy? Uxbridge rover Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 He's gone, bye bye, good riddance, not bothered about him anymore .
bob fleming Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Well said Uxbridge. "Why did Fergie leave Rovers?" 'cause he's a loser. He couldn't hack it in the big league. Simple as that.
frosty Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 He's gone, bye bye, good riddance, not bothered about him anymore . Thank you Uxbridge
roversWASmylife Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 I've just remembered. When Ferguson decided to join us and once he signed and gone about how great a club we were, what a fanatastic league he was about to play in, against the great players and nice at the nice stadiums. Didn't Ferguson say a few things? We all remember he said he wanted to play in a better league, but I've just remembered, he was interviewed in the L.E.T and said that he was sick of the religious and bitter rivalry, following an incident with his son at the local swimming baths. Just jogged my memory, if anyone else remembers it.
philipl Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 Because I was in a bar with a fully digital feed managed to see my first Sunday Pub League action for about ten years. It is abysmally bad! And the goalkeeping?
brfcshabba Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 Has any of you been on Barrys website and requested the emails from when he signed for Rovers?
92er Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 "He was brilliant-he ran Rangers' midfield"- a caller on 6-0-6
RangerRover Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 Must be a real slap in the face to all those recently converted green and white sympathisers who were hoping that Celtic would wipe the floor with Rangers. Good to see Douglas continue his goalkeeping education courtesy of the David James /Seaman school of Calamity keeping. Ferguson wasn't at his best but he was more involved in the game than Craig Bellend who seemed intent to remain anonymous during the proceedings. Could David Bellamy have been more ineffective ? I doubt it. Nice to see Strathclyde's finest investigating the coin throwing incident where Ricksen was struck on the head. No room in the game for such thuggery - don't you agree lads ? Their first task will be to flush out the Soapdodgers who actually have spare cash - that should leave just the one culprit Don't you just love it when you beat your rivals ? Better ask you that at a later date !!!!!!
joey_big_nose Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 Don't you just love it when you beat your rivals ? Better ask you that at a later date !!!!!! Ferguson might just end up wishing he stayed to the end of the season. We could have done with him yesterday and the draw we got means we have a decent crack at a semi final. It would be an experience I think you would agree, bigger than Bolton-Rovers anyway and even the Old Firm derby in its own way. Well, good luck to him. I am not bitter but surely six more months would of been worth it to see if something like this would of happend.
cn_barlow Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 well he said he wanted to win things and he has...must be nice knowing that all you have to do is turn up and you'll get to lift the cup...how can he get any satisfaction from it tho?! Not like we'll have when we've earned our place in the FA cup final.
frosty Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 Ferguson has lifted a major cup- the scottish league cup. Rangers beat motherwell 5-1
Blueboy Downunder Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 we talked briefly about fergy on saturday night and about how he left rovers. i made the comment that scottish football was nothing short of a bag of crap......which i mean no offense to our scottish cousins, but still stand by that. he did not want to play infront of crowds that were like the one at the reebok stadium.... i reckon it is cause he was admitting to himself that he could not hack it in the premier league...no ambition whatsoever......
cn_barlow Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 The fact that ferguson doesn't play for us any more doesnt bother me because i feel we have a better replacement in Savage...and given time The Axe....it is the manner of which he left which really p!sses me off!
The Prof. Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 Mard Scottish Git who wanted to play 2 - 3 competative games a year. Imagine watching rovers play in the Northern Prem...no make that the west lancs league week in week out. Good riddance!
tmap Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 Am I the only one who's not that bothered by his comments? It's kind of true that we don't have any real derbies - we've played the Dingles 4 times in the whole 20 years I've been supporting the club. Yes, we hate Man Yoo, but everyone does and it's a bit one-sided as a rivalry, and I confess to not really caring very much at all about Bolton. For a player brought up with the intensity of Glasgow rivalries, I can forgive him his comments myself. Ex-Rovers players like Yorke and Witschge (grrr...) have said a lot worse. And if someone tried to convince him that the fixture at the Reebok really was the Big One, you can see why he'd feel a bit let down. As you say, he didn't really cut it in the Premiership, a fact he doesn't deny, and he's off. And it's certainly not enough to make me like Celtic.
Cocker Posted March 22, 2005 Posted March 22, 2005 hows fergie doing back at rangers? I Dont know, I tried to watch but my eyes started to bleed
Ozz Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 This may be a stupid question or two but 1. Was there ever a definitive reason for him leaving, apart from "err I dont like playing in the Reebok" 2. How much did we get back for him.
