MCMC1875 Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 rambo rathbone has not been shortlisted Basil should be added.
broadsword Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Keith Newton was on teh right back list, although I thought he played left back? (Having said that, I voted for him thinking that I must be losing my memory ...)
brfcshabba Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Callum Davidson 1988 - 2000 73 app 1998 not 1988 What about Stig Inge Bjornebye?
Cocker Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Hakan Unsal- remember that pass to Dunny I remember that he had the longest throw in the world Anyway, I pick Le Saux
T4E Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Hakan Unsal- remember that pass to Dunny Thats the only thing anyone ever seems to remember about Unsal.
Jan Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Gary Croft (ok I'm biased!) would still vote for Le Sulk
Alan75 Posted September 14, 2004 Author Posted September 14, 2004 rambo rathbone has not been shortlisted nominations at this stage, ready for den to sort out the poll. Naming the left backs you remember or know about helps den having to search.
Rovermatt Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Le Saux was my favourite Rovers player when I was younger. He was also a superb footballer. He gets my vote.
Al Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Bill (Telescopic Leg) Eckersley for me. Bill had a long run as England left back despite playing for a 2nd division team (Rovers). Extremely loyal (He could have had his pick of the 1st division teams but chose to stick with Rovers) and was way before his time with his ability to dribble all the way up to the opposition penalty area. Superb ball control and his party piece was that if a player went past him he could extend his left leg behind him and nick the ball away, clean as a whistle, leaving the other player looking around him wondering where the hell the ball had gone. This earned him the 'telescopic leg' tag. Very entertaining to watch and a dependable full back. Has my vote every time.

The Producer Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 In terms of ability, I'd vote for Le Saux, but is this the only criteria?
philipl Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 John Bailey was a very big favourite of mine and I never did understand why or how he disappeared as a great full back fter the transfer to Everton. Sauxy was undoubtedly the best left bck I have seen wearing the Rovers shirt but I guess Eckersley will shade it. So many people told me such great stories about him- again an incredibly loyal servant of the club. Any great left backs before Eckersley?

Cheshireblue Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Didn't Super Atko play left back on at least one occasion?
