Anti Euro Smiths Fan
Apparently Robbie Savage told John Toshack that he'd only be willing to play for Wales in future if games were held at The Racecourse Ground, Wrexham - where he would be closer to his sick parents.... thenodrog
Its a clash of personalities.....Half the team hate Toshack and Toshack hates half the team! Strange timing how Welsh football is gonna be on its arse again whilst the star over Welsh rugby is rising fast.
Alex Rover
I think this is the real reason.
Eddie
Basically his pride couldn't take it. I can partially understand, he is nearing that age anyway and with Wales not up to much all he can ask for is to play. He certainly deserves to be in the sqaud, though perhaps he should have waited a day or two to make the decision public so that it was a bit more mature. Can't say I'm unhappy though. I think there's been something bad in the air between them both going back a bit. Out of interest did anyone hear Savage on the phone at around 7pm on Sky Sports News this evening? Radagast
Well, I'm happy he'll be playing fewer games a season, but it's just typical of Robbie to get into a clash with someone before even working with him for the first time.
RoyRover
At least he can concentrate fully on Rovers now and he won't be picking up any injuries from playing internationals.
nellybc
Robbie has just been live on Talksport and he conducted himself very well. He explained the situation regarding the fact that he first met John Toshack at Birmingham and that Toshack talked about himself for 20 mins then spent 2 mins talking about Wales. At Toshack's first team meeting he said "I could be on a beach somewhere". That has upset Savage big style and the fact that Savage is obviously so proud to be Welsh and said he would play for any other manager to play for his country. He would have done anything possible to have got his red card 1 match ban revoked so he could have played against England. Also, Savage felt that Gary Speed should have been given the Welsh job. Toshack has left him out for personal reasons because Giggs, Hartson were both in the new squad that he was left out of, and they also pulled out of the last friendly. Savage " I know im not the best player in the world but "How can i not be in the top 24 players in Wales" ??
cletus
....beat me to it! I too heard the radio interview with Robbie, & i agree he put across his point very well. this will be in all the papers tomorrow. Lots of differing opinions on the rest of the phone-in (about Robbie`s call) most people praised his refreshing honest approach, also some calls slating his views (mainly from people in Birmingham, as the DJ pointed out) in my view? Well done Robbie! p.s.....on a more selfish note, Robbie`s retirement can only help to prolong his Rovers carreer.
rover6
I will always be supportive of Savage when he's in a Rovers shirt but his lies and deceit employed to worm himself out of Brum and earn a nice pay day at Rovers has seen him fall in my estimations. Not that I held him in a very high regard anyway. I see in a recent interview the man finally admitted that financial matters did come into his thinking when seeking to join Rovers. I think its quite incredible that the Welsh Fa have allowed a manager who puts personally vendetta's above his nations progress and results, to continue in his job. Savage is not the only one, there have been another 2 or 3 who have been frozen out by To$$er-ack, only to be replaced by league 1 players-is it a supprise theyre doing crap now?
