i forgot about this thread and glad that someone brought it back up. throwing the arm band down was disgusting. no matter how frustrated he is bout getting injured, taht captains arm band should be treated with dignity and repect. if he can't or doesn't want to do this...then give the job to somebody else.

Haven't seen it, but I think if you'd just got back in the team after weeks out, got injured and didn't get a foul for it, you MIGHT just be frustrated. You know you have to come off, and probably won't be there for the rest of the season. I'm surprised all he did was throw away the armband! Shows he's learned restraint!

Not about him being dirty, but what the hell was he doing trowing away the captain armband today?

Well, when the physio and the player both indicate to the bench that the captain is fine then he immediately gets subbed.

Nothing brainless about it. Simple frustration. He thought he was fit, as did the physio.

And after such a great game...

I would imagine that it is his last appearence as captain to be honest. Nelsen has been captain in everything but name for about three months now. I would put money on the players looking to the Kiwi for guidance, rather than Todd.

I hope it isn't a long term injury though, we need him!

frustration...you've had a bad day at work so does that mean you throw a brick through your window or decide to jump up and down on the bonnet of your car!! i don't think so.

when he through down that arm band, that was more or less it for me. whatever happens he will have some explaining to do and possibly an apology.

Misplaced frustration due to the circumstaqnces of the game, returining to the first team and getting injured.

He didnt throw it down with veno, just tossed it away.

Edit - just read blueboys slightly incamparable comparisons. unsure.gif )

You are joking arent you.

Read what I say. Dave Fevre and Andy Todd said he was fine. Then he got subbed.

Id have been mad, considereing I had been the best player on the pitch.

Ryan Nelsen has always struck me as more of a 'natural' captain. He's in the same sort of physical mould as Colin Hendry, and seems a very professional person both on and off the field as well.

I think we should banish Todd to the reserves (b*stards) for six months. Again.

Saw the game and its clear hes annoyed at getting back in the team and being injured on 100th game for Rovers. Some people are reading into this way too much, but hey, rovers fans do dont they

I suspect that the correlation coefficient between those who believe the worst of Toddy and those who were furious because he "refused to wear the shirt" (AKA Souness fell out with him and made an excuse to drop him which they swallowed hook, line and sinker) would be quite high.

I've not seen the incident but it sounded bad on the radio. Whatever the reason he should not have done it - no excuses and that's the bottom line. I dont see how Rovers will benefit by banishing one of the better players at the club to the reserves tho?

I wonder how that Arsenal home game would have ended then.......

Shouldnt we calm down a bit, the throwing of the captain band was stupid, but from what i saw on TV Todd gets injured, lies down for a while..and gets subbed.

On the TV pics it seems like Todd is shouting to Hughes why he was taken of the pitch and he could have stayed on!

Hughes looks at Todd but no replies....

Seems like he didnt ask Todd if he could play on or not and brought mokoena on,of course its up to Hughes who should play and not!

For me it feels like Todd REALLY wanted to play and show that he is up for the starting eleven....

Well anyway, It will be intressting to see if he is in the squad for the chelsea game......if not he will probably be on his way somewhere else this summer!

Rather rich coming from someone would accuse a certain individual of trying to drown them if they'd dived in to save a struggling swimmer... You've even managed to turn this discussion round to him for goodness sake.

Fact of the matter is that had it been anyone else there would not be a discussion. But Todd has "previous" and plenty of it, so any action like that is bound to generate debate. Personally I like him and he'd probably be in my starting 11 ahead of Zurab, but there is no doubt about it he has a suspect temperament and I'd make Nelsen my skipper because of that.

Also it seems pretty obvious to me who leads at the back and the player who seems to do well at putting in a word with officials (not that it does us much good) and that is Nelsen. He appears to be a natural leader and I don't think any fan would say he doesn't deserve it. He's always there and can always be counted on and is exactly the kind of character you want as a captain. I like Todd, but he is prone to the odd rush of blood to the head (although less frequently now) and so is perhaps not the player you want with the armband on. Also from a simply PR perspective while Todd is still regarded by much of the media as being a bit of a thug, albeit a rather decent defender, Nelsen is held in quite high regard by most writers and commentators.

Do they wrap it up in cotton wool after the game???

The only thing that distinguishes this incident from all the others that happen in almost every game, is that this took place in public. Dressing rooms up and down the country will witness such incidents.

If fit he should start against Chelsea.

To the anti Todd league- Is it just coincidence that our recent bad run has occured when Todd has been out? dry.gif

First of all, Tony Diamond: Yes, I think it's a coincidence, or more precisely, it's more of an issue of lacking Tugay's creativity methinks. Perhaps would the defence be more solid with Todd back there, I'm a bit undecided on that tbh, but I don't really think you can put our poor run on Todd being out of the XI.

Secondly, Cue Roversmum on this one, the LET is making an article on this. Not loving the headline tbh, too much tabloid - aren't they supposed to be on our side?

I'm not saying they should be covering things up, but just watch and see the national papers following this one up.

PS: Interesting little part about Gold and Savage further down in the article, a good move by Robbie imo. Those Big Club owners doesn't strike me as the nicest fellas', which Simon Jordan also has pointed out (in that fantastic article linked in the Bruce thread) - they use the media very cleverly to manipulate people. I can see that sleezy pornstar sitting behind his desk and ordering Savage into his office. You have my full support, Mr.Savage smile.gif

In Todd's defence...even I'd be angry if I got substituted for Mokoena, so one can only wonder what a Premiership football would think.

I agree that Todd's days as captain are probably numbered, but not because of this incident (which I haven't actually seen, but it seems like a bit of a storm in a tea cup). He really just seemed to fall into the job because he was the only player of reasonable experience (at the club as well as general years of playing) that was getting a regular game when the job became available - he's never really seemed vocal enough to be organising and rallying the team, but has done an admirable job of leading by example.

Now, with Nelsen having established himself as first pick to play at the back every week and spent a little more time at the club, i can see him getting the job full-time in the close season. He does indeed seem a more 'natural' captain - there are certain players that just seem to get the armband wherever they end up.

agreed tony. the 'anti todd merchants on here' (he's a thug and shouldnt be picked)

should remember his astounding performances over the last 3 seasons, or perhaps they've forgotton he was player of the year 2 seasons running! ?

he is an exceptional reader of the game, great at anticipating danger and inspires those around him. i'm been to most away games this and prev. seasons and lost count at the number of times he's got us out of trouble.

he was absolutely magnificent against birmingham and if he had stayed on we'dve got at least a point. (he wouldnt of allowed forssell the time & space to bag the winner).

I don't think there are many on here saying that he is rubbish and should be dropped. One of the few places on the pitch where we have a positive silection dilemma is in the centre of defence and I can see why some people prefer Todd and others would like to see Zurab playing. I do think though that he isn't our best captain and after the recent event it has simply highlighted the fact that there are others more suited to the job. I don't find what he did insulting or think that he did it to insult the club, fans or other players, but you want your captain to be able to keep a cool head and not let things get to him, Todd struggles with that at times. Don't tell him I said that though.

i didnt get a chance to see the incident myself but from what i read, his actions did sort of cross the line. anyways i had always prefer nelsen as the captain because of his leadership skills.

having said that, i would still rate todd slightly over zura.
