FourLaneBlue Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 I'd certainly take the likes of Given, Emre and Duff off their hands! IMO Shay Given is probably the best keeper in the Premiership. Letting Shay Given leave was one of the worst transfer decisions Rovers have ever made. As for Newcastle; can anyone explain why on earth Steven Taylor is being left out of the team to accomodate Titus Bramble?

Rovermatt Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 God knows. My sister knows more about the offside rule than big Titus.
Ronin Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 the strange thing about newcastle is that as individual players, they have some very good players, but collectively and as a team...they just seem to flatter to deceive season after season. Sounds a bit like England too
Fife Rover Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 I'd certainly take the likes of Given, Emre and Duff off their hands! IMO Shay Given is probably the best keeper in the Premiership. Duff or Emre would prove to be far more effective than Pedersen is at the moment. The only thing that Neill could achieve at Newcastle is the change of scenery that he wants. Apart from that he isn't going to a club which is going anywhere, they won't finish ahead of us or qualify for Europe, so why bother? They wouldn't fulfill any of his ambitions. No, but they would fulfill his bank-balance ambitions, and those of his agent too!
gumboots Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Think the agent comment is the most telling. I've long had the feeling that most of the "I want a change of scene" and "I need to go to a bigger club before it's too late" have been agent speak for "this guy's looking too settled and I haven't had my cut of a transfer fee for a while."
Blueboy Downunder Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 ok, we all know by now that lucas is not moving away from from rovers for footballing reasons, unfortunately to fill his pockets. however on the off chance that it was for footballing reaons, then where (other than rovers) would he go that it is gonna be a top notch club and one that is moving forward? none of the teams that have been mentioned in the telegraph could offer lucas as much promise as what we could. NEWCASTLE - best thing about them is the support they get anywhere and everywhere. WEST HAM - never gonna challenge for honours domestically, already out of the uefa cup, bottom half of the table all the time and will not be their captain. LIVERPOOL - their back four, lucas will not get infront of any of them and they are a long way off winning the title. SPURS - never have a settled team from one season to the next. the best option for him is to go to the nou camp - barcalona, the history and name speaks for itself. challenging for the spanish title every season, playing with world class players every week, and awsome pay packet and a fabulous lifestyle!! when he leaves rovers, that is where i want him to go!!
RoyRover Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 The thing that Lucas seems to be overlooking is that just because you are going to a big club doesn't mean that you are going to a good club; prime example being Newcastle.
vyeo Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 well, if lucas really were to go to barca, then fair play to him. but seriously, do you guys really think that he would get into barca's team? if he can't be rated ahead of finnan at liverpool... what more zambrotta?! in any case, i guess my point would be, barca would be an obvious upgrade from us. however, if lucas moves to them or liverpool, who can also be considered bigger than us, then he is going to be giving up a regular place for a spot on the bench at best.
pleasure Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 LIVERPOOL - their back four, lucas will not get infront of any of them and they are a long way off winning the title. IMO, lucas is better defensively than finnan, warnock, riise and that brazilian chap. he's now experienced in playing is any position along the back-line and liverpool will be attracted by that. i havent got an issue with him leaving us for the likes of liverpool and barca.
neekoy Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I have got a problem with him leaving us for another premiership club. If he decides to go, I would pack his bags to go to Barca instead of Liverpool.
yellowsubmarine Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 If Neill were to leave, I hope he joins the REAL big teams, either Barca or Milan or even Pool. No point going to teams like Newcastle or Spurs. They are not going to win anything anytime soon.
Shaddy Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Letting Shay Given leave was one of the worst transfer decisions Rovers have ever made. I thought he demanded the transfer?
FourLaneBlue Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I thought he demanded the transfer? If I recall correctly his contract ran out, he refused to sign one because Flowers was keeping him out the team. The next season Flowers was replaced by John Filan anyway.
NEARREY Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 A transfer to Barcelona would normally be a total agent led story. However, I'd prefer Lucas to Gio Van Bronkhorst at left back, so if he had the choice he might just get in the Barca team.
G Somerset Rover Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Sky sports believe that Neil has turned down another new contract.
Billy Castell Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Sell him. I can't be bothered to hear about him moving any more. If it is to a Liverpool or Barca, then fair enough, but if he goes to Spuds, or the Barcodes then we know he and his agent are greedy fools chasing the money.
modes98 Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Whilst i would like to keep him, i'd prefer to sell him in january and bring in a half decent left back. With brett playing so well at Right back we can lose him.
LeftWinger Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 If he continues to mark players at set-pieces like he did yesterday he'll be lucky if anyone wants him.
Billy Castell Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Don't know if he's any good, but former Everton player Michael Ball wants to leave PSV apparently.
vyeo Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 ball might just be the one we turn too seeing that we made an attempt to bring him in during the last window.
Billy Castell Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 I'd like Wayne Bridge myself, but we probably don't have the £3-5m to buy him right now.
modes98 Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 There are alot of good left backs who may be looking to move in january or the summer. Ball would seem to be risky, he hasn't had the best track record in recent times but if anybody can get the best out of him it's Hughes and his staff! I'd love to see Baines but i fear the price that Wigan will place on him will make the entire football world cringe.
Billy Castell Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 (edited) Is Roberto Carlos still at Real.? I'm not putting his name forward in any way, as I think he's gone crap. I was just wondering. Edited October 23, 2006 by Billy Castell
92er Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 We were linked with signing Ball on the last day of the transfer window.
Billy Castell Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 How about a loan, with a future transfer for Ball, and sounding out Chelsea for Bridge if Ball is crap?
