Michael Gray?! ohmy.gif

Guess he's back from the wilderness!

Does this mean we won't be going for a defender as Hughes has found someone suitable?

Notes from JPW @ Swansea.

Should be 3 0 down, they look sharp up front, Friedal made 3 good vaes. Starting ti get on top though, not at full steam but Swans r up 4 it.

1 - 0 to us MGP, header back post, Gally cross.

2 - 0 Reidy header at back post. Looking sharper,

3 - 0 Mickey Gray, bit of a scramle after 3 deflected shots.

3 - 1 No Idea, wasn't watching ( smile.gif ).

JHansen just hit post and Mickey G missed a sitter

4 - 1 Derbyshire from Super Gresko cross, header back post.

where were Nelsen, Encks I wonder. Also noted that 4 of 5 LB's in squad saw action..

Apparently, Rovers are sending out a strengthened reserve side to play Cercle Brugge tomorrow. Could mean that guys that missed out today - Jansen, Jemal Johnson, Enkelman and Nelsen (although he was suffering from a minor injury after the last game) might play tomorrow.

watch the game down swansea and I must say I was pretty impressed by Rovers. OK Swansea were not much of a test for the Rovers but already I could see what Hughesy has got in mind for the up-coming season.

Hughesy has adopted a 4-4-2 wing attack formation with Emerton on the Right and Pedersen on the left. What was nice to see was hughesy switching them half way through the first half and then having Emerton play in the middle whilst Gallagher went on the left and Kuqi up front on his own. So it was good to see Hughes being able to switch it quite easily.

Pedersen was awsome and Gallagher played some really nice passes even setting one up for MGP for the first goal.

Best player for Rovers was by far Stevey Reid. Played a blinder and hopefully he will have a good season.

The only weakness which we have got is the Left back. Matteo did not impress me,and I think gresko has got some way to go to get back to full fitness. So hopefully Hughes can get a Left back to sort out that problem.

Plus I have to say Kuqi has a long way to go to impress me as well. He got bundle of the ball too easily and did not really look up to much playing on his own. So I think I will have to wait and see if he makes an impression by mid season.

matt Derbyshire look OK though he look a bit too thin and needs to build some strength before competing in the Premiership. But he does look like one to watch.

I must say I think going on what I have seen today and what I have seen so far, i think Rovers will do ok.

Just got back...nice day out.

Few quick notes cause im knackered...we were under the cosh a bit for 10 mins, swansea had most of first half chances, should have scored a couple, after pedersens goal we settled down.

Friedel - some very good saves, missed their goal was singin to our players warming down mad.gif so i dont know what happened

Neill - solid

Todd - Solid, couple of strange passes, but good game overall

Mokoenna - solid, surprised me i didnt like him at center back before

Matteo - Good performance

Pedersen - Good goal, could have had another, delivery was ok, didnt do much down the flanks. Actually looked better when moved on the right today.

Savage...im not judging til hes fit. The old people behind me were slating him the whole half which was wrong, hes had an operation, only just gone back to training and had 12,000 people giving him some pretty bad abuse. Couple of mislaid passes and tackles. Not very involved.

Reid - Another good display and another goal. Good athlete seems to get more stuck in now aswell. Linked up well with the strikers and was unlucky not to get another.

Emerton - Looked good going forward and defensivley. Linked up well with neill. Looked comfortable on the left aswell.

Kuqi - Disapointed me, didnt win headers, didnt win much actually and was wastefull. Hopefully he will improve.

Gallagher - Some good runs and provided the cross for MGP. Couple of crap shots.

Subs...

Mcevely/taylor - both did ok

Flitcroft - Some stupid passes, i didnt think he was good enough for our first team last season and nothings gonna change.

Tugay - Couple of wayward passes but overall did very well. Totally different from savage he was involved in every rovers move. Basically ran our game when he came on.

Gray - Another good display. Pplayed left mid and did well. Some good crosses (and 1 bad one) linked up very well with gresko. Ive never had a problem with Gray, in my opinion hes always been excellent for us apart from the 3 games last season..charlton away, boro and chelsea away. Could be a very usefull squad player.

Gresko - What can i say....his touch was excellent, his vision was excellent, his delivery was excellent and his movement was excellent. Out for a year!!!? You definately wouldnt think so. Lets hope he can do it in the prem. If he can hes a def starter.

and finally, the man of the match...

Derbyshire - Ive seen him play a couple of times for the reserves and i got the opinion that he wont make it at this level, at least not for a while. Looks totally different now. For the last 20 mins he was playing upfront on his own and he never stopped making intelligant runs..his first touch was good, created a couple of chances for himself and got a good header in from a tight angle (from a very good gresko cross).

So alls good biggrin.gif

That's easily the best piece of news I've heard come from this game...if we can get him to somewhere near the form he was showing when he first arrived (or when he persuaded Inter to pay £8 million for him) then he'll save us a good few million.

Pre-season friendlies are pretty irrelevant but still it was nice to see Swansea 1 Rovers 4 when I looked for the score.

Savage can be forgiven at this stage- he is two to three weeks behind his colleagues in preparation and at this stage, it is a big gulf, especially playing opposition which kicks off its season next Saturday.

The encouraging signs are that Savage might not be an automatic pick in central midfield as others are quite possibly challenging him on merit. That's not knocking Savage.

Bit concerning that the defense is leaking and by all accounts Brad conceded a soft one yesterday. Better at Swansea than West Ham though.

Darn it! I have to agree with you there Chuckster. If he can get to the level he was at before Danny Mills crocked him then it will be like a new signing. He can pass, cross, shoot and is also another threat from free kicks. I would be very happy to see an in form Gresko rather than Dominic in the left back slot.
