den Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I think the reaction to Australia taking the light is being blown out of proportion. One session of play was lost. There are still three days to play, with the forecast good. There's plenty of time there for a result, bearing in mind a lot of these games have only gone four days. If the Aussies had stayed out last night and lost 2/3 wickets, their position in this game would have been much worse.
SouthAussieRover Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Should be a good rest for Hayden amd Langer before they set about the English attack.

England were batting for the second time at this stage at Edgbaston. Bearing in mind that they need to put on a decent lead they are going to have bat into tomorrow and then bowl us out cheaply, not impossible I know. Any further disruptions and a draw will look even more likely. Langer himself has admitted that in hindsight he would have made a different decision.
SouthAussieRover Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Langer is just playing the game there. He knew it was best not to risk a wicket in the dull light, knowing he can come out and play on a pitch similar to the WACA with the benefit of better light.
SouthAussieRover Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Suprise, suprise a substitute fielder is on for England.
Manchester Blue Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Might be better light but shame about the rain eh? Still a poor decision and will just get poorer with every stoppage.
den Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 If it continues to rain, it's out of the Aussies control anyway.
Flopsy Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 great game though its pissing down in Brum at the moment
stuwilky Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Suprise, suprise a substitute fielder is on for England. 345890 I thought it was meant to be the poms that whinged?

You seem to be able to make predictions based on all probabilities but without anything to back it up
SouthAussieRover Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I thought it was meant to be the poms that whinged? 345895 Poor old Farmer Giles. On the pitch for half an hour and then he has to go off for yet another rest.
Scotty Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Are you Nostradamus or something? You seem to be able to make predictions based on all probabilities but without anything to back it up 345897 I just hope the Aussies get into the same situation that England did at Old Trafford - needing one or two wickets at the end of Monday. Then it'll show how stupid yesterday's decision really was.
modes98 Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Poor old Farmer Giles. On the pitch for half an hour and then he has to go off for yet another rest. 345898 Well he could go to the toilet in hayden's helmet i spose!
SouthAussieRover Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 (edited) Why he must have a prostate problem Watch the scoreboard keep ticking over Edited September 10, 2005 by SouthAussieRover
stuwilky Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Why he must have a prostate problem Watch the scoreboard keep ticking over 345904 almost 160 in two sessions. By the close of play on the 4th day you might have caught us (well the English).
den Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 They'll be at least level with us by the end of today, Stu. There's going to be an almighty battle for England to draw this one. We must take wickets in the next session.
stuwilky Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 They'll be at least level with us by the end of today, Stu. 345908 Not ifthat big fat black rain cloud carries on wandering over the South of England towards the Oval.
philipl Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 This is heading towards a three innings match. After England posted their 373 total, its now to all intents and purposes one innings each spread over what will be weather-reduced to about two days and one session. With Australia starting after lunch at minus 200, England still need one really good session out of the seven available to wrap up the Ashes. That said, If Australia get to 250-0, I'll be getting nervous!
Manchester Blue Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Are you Nostradamus or something? You seem to be able to make predictions based on all probabilities but without anything to back it up 345897 You don't need to be Nostradamus to predict rain in England!
den Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I wouldn't rule out australia levelling the scores and declaring.
Manchester Blue Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 They may well have to but if as seems likely there is another interruption this evening plus a few tomorrow it will be late on tomorrow before they get near our total. That is obviously ignoring the fact that we take more wickets which given how Harmison was bowling in that over seems likely.
Timmy Posted September 10, 2005 Author Posted September 10, 2005 good news...langer out and it's raining
Timmy Posted September 10, 2005 Author Posted September 10, 2005 I would like the person who decided to make public England plans for celebrating the return of the ashes (i.e parade) before the 5th test had started to be publically shoot, or even castrated.
