Finch Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Last I heard (Socceram last week as I remember) it was £450k a place. Dunno if anyone has mentioned this, but, I've been looking at our previous points totals since we won the table, and our biggest premership points finish was the year after we won - 1995-1996 - when we got 61. We're already on 60 so we're set to finish with our highest prem total since the championship winning season 2005/2006 6th 60 2004/2005 15th 42 2003/2004 15th 44 2002/2003 6th 60 2001/2002 10th 46 2000/2001 Div 1 1999/2000 Div 1 1998/1999 19th 35 1997/1998 6th 58 1996/1997 13th 42 1995/1996 7th 61 1994/1995 1st 89

bluebruce Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Fairly sure I heard 450k a place too, though don't recall the source. The board will know we have a little extra coming in through the UEFA Cup too, so Hughes should get a fairly nice little kitty, especially with deadwood like Amo and co out of the club.
ihtd Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Its definitely 550k a place bluebruce! I remember when we drew with Brum Brum The Mighty Brum on the last day of the season 2 years ago, dropped two places and it cost the club £1 100 000 for Stern Johns equaliser.
frosty Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Rovers to finish 7th. Chelsea to win league, wigan, west ham and portsmouth to go down 331237 Well, I got one of them right
sulli9 Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Rovers take on Manchester City, already assured of a sixth placed finish and £7.3 million in merit payments thats from Lawro's prediction cheers
thenodrog Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Well, I got one of them right 405373 and but for the 'Hand of Ped' you might well have had 2 right.

tchocky Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 ...points totals since we won the table, 405198 Hehehe. Interesting stats though. I think we should look to consolidate our position in the league next season, only just beating our points total from this season.

only2garners Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 That's 2 years ago though...not saying you're wrong, but still, could've changed. 405431 According to today's Independent each place in the Premiership is worth £484,000, so finishing 6th would bring in £7.26m, so for once Lawro gets something right.

Rovers take on Manchester City, already assured of a sixth placed finish and £7.3 million in merit payments. Victory would also give them their highest points total since the Premiership was played over 38 matches, and since they won the title in a 42-game season in 1994/95.

frosty Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 The top six from my pre-season predictions: Whadd'ya think of me now? 405720 It doesnt say when you made your prediction.
D.W. Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 It doesnt say when you made your prediction. 405728 Right you are. It's the eighth post down, forwarded on August 8th 2005. I was reluctant to supply a source because the rest of my predictions table was rubbish and I wanted to keep it a secret and live off my top-six predicting legend forever, but now I've been exposed as a big fat predicting phoney for the whole forum to see. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your predicting results. I'm interested to see if any of you can top ol' 'Top Six' here. (Is there anyway to change screen names? I want to be called Top Six )
Neil Weaver Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Let’s see how the Preston hairdresser’s predictions panned out. He’s given us all a laugh during the course of the season and I think you’ll agree it all adds up to something truly comical. So just to explain…… First up is the real end of season table - P GD pts Chelsea 38 50 91 Man Utd 38 38 83 Liverpool 38 32 82 Arsenal 38 37 67 Tottenham 38 15 65 Blackburn 38 9 63 Newcastle 38 5 58 Bolton 38 8 56 West Ham 38 -3 55 Wigan 38 -7 51 Everton 38 -15 50 Fulham 38 -10 48 Charlton 38 -14 47 Middlesbrough 38 -10 45 Man City 38 -5 43 Aston Villa 38 -13 42 Portsmouth 38 -25 38 Birmingham 38 -22 34 West Brom 38 -27 30 Sunderland 38 -43 15 Second, now bear in mind that Lawrenson didn’t make any predictions till September. Most teams had played 4 games before then. Taking those first games out of the picture (and so there is a fair comparison), here’s what the table would look like without those games - P GD pts Chelsea 34 42 79 Man Utd 34 33 74 Liverpool 34 31 78 Arsenal 34 33 61 Tottenham 34 13 58 Blackburn 34 11 59 Newcastle 34 11 57 Bolton 34 10 49 West Ham 34 -2 51 Wigan 34 -6 48 Everton 34 -13 47 Fulham 34 -7 44 Charlton 34 -20 38 Middlesbrough 34 -8 41 Man City 34 -8 33 Aston Villa 34 -13 37 Portsmouth 34 -21 37 Birmingham 34 -19 30 West Brom 34 -24 27 Sunderland 34 -38 15 And so to the table according to Lawrenson - P GD pts Chelsea c34 54 88 Arsenal c34 47 84 Man Utd c34 40 79 Liverpool c34 32 73 Everton c34 12 60 Bolton W c34 6 56 Newcastle c34 3 54 Tottenham c34 9 50 Birmingham c34 -8 44 Portsmouth c34 -13 40 Charlton c34 -11 39 Fulham c34 -11 38 Man City c34 -15 36 Blackburn c34 -11 34 Aston V c34 -21 33 Wigan A c34 -17 30 WBA c34 -23 26 West Ham c34 -17 25 Middlesboro c34 -27 25 Sunderland c34 -33 22 and finally a table to show the difference between the real world and the 34 games Lawrenson predicted (positive numbers indicate reality was better than Lawrenson and vice versa) – P GD pts West Ham c34 15 26 Blackburn c34 22 25 Wigan A c34 11 18 Middlesbrough c34 19 16 Tottenham c34 4 8 Fulham c34 4 6 Liverpool c34 -1 5 Aston V c34 8 4 Newcastle c34 8 3 WBA c34 -1 1 Charlton c34 9 -1 Man City c34 7 -3 Portsmouth c34 -8 -3 Man Utd c34 -7 -5 Bolton W c34 4 -7 Sunderland c34 -5 -7 Chelsea c34 -12 -9 Everton c34 -25 -13 Birmingham c34 -11 -14 Arsenal c34 -14 -23 So West Ham and us did much better than the hairdresser predicted whilst Birmingham and especially Arsenal did much worse. Or an alternative view is that he had a real downer on West Ham and us whilst being far too positive about Arsenal and to a lesser extent Brum. Well that’s the non-emotional view anyway. Fire away with other views.
Philly Rover ® Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 (edited) First of all, great work on that Neil. It makes for some pretty interesting reading, that's for sure! The results are in once again for our predictions, too (sorry it took me a few days). As last year, I want to start by looking at some of the, ahem, erroneous things we predicted at the start of the season. No offense meant by this, boys and girls, but let's check out how truly foolish we were (at least in some predictions)... 15. Birmingham - true wishful thinking would see them 18th but they are far too good for that. --philipl I fancy Pompey to do well next season, I think they could be this seasons Bolton. Mandaric has shown real ambition with the signings they've made this season, I made have a bet on them to get into the top 6 if the odds are good enough. --LeChuck 18. Wigan: Will start of slowly but go on a late charge, rather like Crystal Palace. Chimbonda and Pollitt are not exactly inspired signings however and Wigan go down. Expect Roberts/Ellington to score 15 goals between them. --rog of the rovers 5. Aston Villa: This year's surprise package. O'Leary is a good manager, and he's made some solid additions this offseason. --Yours Truly It really is a funny old game, I guess... although I have to say that this year's predictions were much closer to the actual than last year. A number of people predicted Rovers in sixth, and a few even had the top six correct in order. Obviously we're just getting better at this as we go along. Point of reference: last year's results And as for this year's results... our Wizard of Table Predicting © (alias Scotty) was at his old tricks again this year... I've heard that he has a room with all the stats of all the Premier League clubs covering each wall, every July he locks himself away in this room and goes into some sort of trance like state, he doesn't sleep, he just stares at the squads, analysing in minute detail the pros and cons of each player (age, previous injuries / hair cuts), manager and team - (a bit like the goalkeeping player manager in Dream Team - in fact exactly like him - but even weirder) he even looks at their horoscopes as well, nothing but nothing, is left to chance. At the end of July he then puts all the team names in a bag and pulls them out one at a time - first team out wins the league. As I said - no chance - the man's an absolute genius. 316626 Too right, bob... too right. 1. As a sidenote, no one in this year's crew was as genius as me last year--i.e. no one correctly predicted all three relegated sides. Anyway, that's that... let the slagging of Scotty begin, because obviously he cheats somehow! Edited May 10, 2006 by Philly Rover ®
rog of the rovers Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Nice work Philly Rover. Chimbonda hardly inspiring! Ouch GOod job Hughesy is better at fin players than I am!
joey_big_nose Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Good work Philly and Neill! Well done Scotty! Bad luck Phillipl, the old crystal ball not working old china? Looking forward to more of your balanced predictions for the future of Rovers and football in it's entireity...
roversmum Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 At the end of July he then puts all the team names in a bag and pulls them out one at a time - first team out wins the league. I thought it was such a good idea that I tried it

Scotty Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Cheers Philly for all your hard work. I'd love to make out that I've got some sort of system, but I'm afraid it's all pot luck. If I win it next year do I get to keep the trophy?
tcj_jones Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Well I'm happy with a respectable 27th place. Cheers for that Philly, I seem to remember you doing this last season and me coming around the same place. That's consistency, that is.
Neil Weaver Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 A nomination for a journalist's award...... I can't see it on this thread, but last July someone posted a link to an article in the Manchester Eveving News - "Mark's shock troops" by Paul Hince. Here's the first paragraph - IT'S not like me to make wild predictions but I'm going to chance it today. In fact, I'm not going to make one prediction, but two. Prediction One. Blackburn Rovers will finish in the top six in the Premiership next season. Prediction Two. By doing so Rovers will become the most unpopular team in this country since Leeds United were trampling opponents into submission 30 years ago. Wonder if he put money on it? Anyway, his second part of the above is a bit over the top but I suspect we were top of the bad boys league.
