Modi Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Met various Rovers players in the usual circumstances (hanging around after matches etc). Other most recent unexpected meeting with a footie figure was staying in the Macdonald Holland Hotel in Cardiff in August and thinking someone behind me in the restaurant at breakfast seemed to be getting a fair bit of fawning from the staff. Turned out to none other than Sam Hamman. Nice bloke.

waggy Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 i'm getting presented with a shirt off a rovers star this afternoon
Ozz Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Every week or so I come within yards of various Prem players as I lean against the wall at the Darwen end to scream my words of encouragment at them. Never get any replies though, for some reason. Stuck up gits. Least they could do is to tell me to #### off back.
RevidgeBlue Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Too many to mention over the years. Directors: David Brown Top bloke. What a thoroughly nice man. Uncle Jack (fleetingly) ditto Keith Lee ditto Bill Bancroft and Rob Coar Used to sit laughing and giggling through a game seemingly paying no attention to it whatsoever. Bill Fox Couldn't hack any criticism from the fans at all and could be fairly rude. You have to have the utmost respect for the job he did in in keeping the club afloat in the 80's though. John Williams Talks a good game. Never lets you get a word in edgeways, presumably so you have less chance to ask awkward questions. Tom Finn Comes across very well Ken Beamish How did he get that job? Players David Mail Absolutely top bloke Chris Sulley/ Nicky Reid /John Millar Really pleasant down to earth guys Howard Gayle A real character Andy Kennedy Tortured soul me and a mate had to calm him down at Manhattan Heights one Saturday night , he was ###### as a **** and as far as he was concerned all Blackburn fans were ******* because he'd had some stick off the crowd that day. Scott Sellars Turned up at my evening wedding reception along with some of the other players, sulked all night and made himself look a complete knob because he refused to be photographed with my ex's niece who thought he was the bees knees Simon Garner my ex had to confiscate his car keys off him one night when he came crawling out of the Woodlands on his hands and knees one night looking for his car. Nice bloke generally though. On a brighter note presented him with a man of the match match ball at the start of the season once when we beat Oldham 4-1 Gordon Cowans When he fell into/out of The Woodlands in a similar state. Graham (the next Alan Shearer) Fenton Spent all his time supping in the Woodlands with a pot on when he should have3 been recovering from a cruciate injury. Callum Davidson Nearly caused a riot in the Dog once by saying he couldn't understand why the crowd were unhappy with the team's performances. Speedie What a character. Anyone else in the Woodlands the night after the Leicester playoffs when he was stood on the tables conducting "Singing in the Rain?" Tugay At a casino in Blackpool. Betting heavily on roulette 100 quid a spin. Seemed to holding his own but kept having to disappear to a cash machine every 2 minutes because his girlfriend/wife was losing hand over fist! Really nice guy. Grabbi At the same place. Seemed fairly quiet and not particularly happy with life. Was obviously killing time fiddling about playing cards for a couple of quid a hand. Martin Taylor Seemed genuinely alarmed when I met him at Tesco's checkout and told him I would tell the manager he's bought a big pack of Mars bars. "They're for the kids" he said. David Dunn Always the perfect gent whenever I saw him out. Built like a brick out house. Probably many more I've missed. Happy memories.
Kennysuperbuyer Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Souness saw me shopping in John Lewis in Cheadle. Met Craig Short in Harrogate when he had got collared by one of those survey people. Worked for Stuart Ripley in Langho. Worked for Egil - top top bloke. Worked for Henning Berg - top top wife!! Met Jon Douglas in Corals bookies in Bamber bridge - seemed o.k.
Gamst Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Have managed to meet a friend of MGP here at uni! I was somewhat impressed!
herbergeehh Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 That would be Cuidado mate. Stay away
Shaddy Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Cruelly injured (with David Thompson and Matt Jansenesque bad luck) when called up to the England squad. Didn't forget the Rovers though as I saw him outside Cardiff after 347051 Sorry, I can't let this one go... sure there was some bad luck involved, but Jansen made a gross misjudgement. It should never be glossed over. Matty was never though of as an "unlucky" player, until that episode. I have forgiven him, but I have to say, the level of sympathy Jansen has got over the last few seasons, when other players who may have had spells of injury and loss of form have been absolutely slated over the same period, irks me a lot. Is brfcs.com the real world
pjk Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Is brfcs.com the real world 348172 It is. There will always be the favourites that can do no wrong, while others will never be seen as good enough no matter what they do. A bit of grudging praise sometimes for a job well done, then a torrent of abuse at the smallest slip-up. Happens everywhere I think.
Korean John Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Once served Mark Atkins with a video during my short spell at 'Variety Video'. When I took my A-Levels at Blackburn College, a shell-suited Chris Sulley was taking some sports management exam. Saw most of the team staggering out of Blakeys around 5 pm one afternoon just before Christmas 1994, Jason Wilcox almost got hit by a car and they went to the pub across the street (FJ Nichols?)
T4E Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 I once spoke to Claire Tomlinson at Stamford Bridge.
Oklahoma Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 (edited) PTholt has met Darren Peacock in Algarve. Both are now living there! Edited September 20, 2005 by Oklahoma
T4E Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Claire is lovely! Lucky Bryan Robson!!! 348220 She is - the young man's Carol Vorderman.
Scotty Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Claire is lovely! Lucky Bryan Robson!!! 348220 Is she going out with him?! I hate him even more now.
roversWASmylife Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Not sure if they still are now. But they had an affair a bit ago.
j166429 Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Pre-brockhall days it was relatively easy to meet with Rovers players (Either at pleasington or behind pleckgate school). I met various players this way. David Speedie (good bloke -always use to chat to my dad), Garner , Hendry, Mimms, batty, le-saux, flowers etc. Also met Shearer on various occasions also whilst as a student in Newcastle (baja beach club). I also remember one night in Blackburn after Hodgson got sacked me and my mates met the entire team up at Utopia. Spoke to Kevin Davies, who told me at the time that he had signed a 7 year contract!!! Apart from the fact that he was absolute poo he was actually a nice bloke - signed my bottle of beer and gave me the rest of his bottle. Also spoke with duffer, dunne, callum davidson, sebastien perez and john filan on the same night.
John Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 When she was 'a lower profile' presenter on Sky she had an affair with Bryan Robson. Following that she went away from the front line for a while and recently she has returned. Makes Champions League viewing a pleasure. If I was a pundit on Football First I would def ask her out for a drink on a Saturday night!

John Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Not sure of the full story to be honest. At the time she wasn't one of Sky's main presenters so was there was not much publicity behind the story.
Bobby G Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Didnt she get it on with Glenn Hoddle too?
John Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Threesome with Glenn and John Gorman apparently…
Ozz Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 I bet Eileen Drury didn`t see that one coming.
