SouthAussieRover Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Do any you have to contend with swooping magpies at this time of year? Mind you the maggies are pretty tame compared to the plovers.

Flopsy Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 bloody hell, you're scared of them? The Sparrows round here in brum are harder than that. True they carry blades but what the hell
LDRover Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Anyone else fascinated by starlings? I quite enjoy watching them in their large groups darting around erratically like a badly choreographed boyband. Having said that, it's that same unpredictability that could leave you in all kinds of trouble should you be cornered by some in Blakey's on a Friday night.

Radagast Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 So, who'd win in a ruck? Sparrows or plovers?
bob fleming Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 I think we can safely say that yer sparrer would quite comfortably kick seven bells out of yer "adult basic" plover if that picture is anything to go by. It doesn't look as though it even has the strength to fly let alone kick off. Besides up on the Fernhurst Farm estate the sparrers are being taught various matial arts techniques by the squirrels. It's no place for a plover at night up there I can tell them now (if any are reading, which I doubt they are, as they're soft).
American Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 Anyone else fascinated by starlings? 358396 Tell me Clarice, do you still hear the lambs screaming?
colin Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 Tell me Clarice, do you still hear the lambs screaming? 358551 Brilliant! Top marks for that one.
SouthAussieRover Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 Plovers 358385 Not those plovers but the masked lapwing http://www.amonline.net.au/factsheets/masked_lapwing.htm
Billy Castell Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 How about a Shoebill ?. These mofos are about 5 foot tall apparently. Even geese and swans would be wary about taking this mean dude.
cn174 Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Billy....that thing looks terrifying! meanwhile Poor red squirrels....
AussieinUk Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Billy that is one butt-ugly bird! I cant stop laughing at it! SAR is right. Magpies and Plovers are a pain in the spring.
joey_big_nose Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Billy's picture looks like Big Bird's very very evil twin. Jesus.
wilyrover Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 It's not only me who agrees with 24 hour drinking

SouthAussieRover Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Check out the squirrels in this link. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4489792.stm Scary!!!
philipl Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 A (temporary?) solution to the squirrel problem.
Nuclearsox Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 The metre-long snakes may be preventing the chestnuts being stolen by the squirrels, Philip, but they seem to be eating the prize goldfish!!!
bob fleming Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Check out the squirrels in this link. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4489792.stm Scary!!! 364457 "They are said to have scampered off at the sight of humans, some carrying pieces of flesh." Fair play to the little black rascals, if I saw some humans roaming round carrying pieces of flesh I gather my nuts and run off an all. There's no need for it, no need at all. Not even in Russia. The metre-long snakes may be preventing the chestnuts being stolen by the squirrels, Philip, but they seem to be eating the prize goldfish!!! 364490 Good spot Sox. We don't want their sort up here on Fernhurst Farm. One of the main reasons we moved here in the first place was that they have wild gold fish roaming the streets. We (although obviously I can't speak for everyone) don't want plastics snakes coming up here scaring squirels away and eating the fish. The ducks would run riot. As Richard Attenborough once commented "You shouldn't **** about with nature". Mind you what does he know about any of it?
joey_big_nose Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Who ever knew that squirrals were such newsworthy animals? Bloody pretentious @#/?s. What ever happend to the vole and the friendly otter? Proper animals them.
philipl Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 A friendly otter? You mean one of these eight foot long weasles?
