Eddie Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 I don't think he should play in that. Given the fact that we have paid him during a long injury and helped him fully recover I think he should stay with us rather than playing useless friendlies.

Billy Castell Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 With Australia buggering off to the AFC, the Kiwis will probably win Oceania's World Cup qualifiers and have a shot at getting into the tournament. Hope this doesn't happen, as Nelsen will draw attention to himself if he plays well !
Eddie Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Yes, but he'll be quite old by the time the next World Cup comes around and we probably wouldn't mind getting in an inflated fee for him.
Billy Castell Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Hmm, true. But who knows, he may have a career like Tugay and be great until he's 50.
cn_barlow Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 If things continue the way they are going i cant see Nelsen ever leaving us to be honest. He doesnt seem like a money motivated player...and so long as Fergie gets his way and Quiros gets the Utd job, then i would thing that Sparky would be with us for a while too...certainly the next 4 years.
joey_big_nose Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Blackburn Rovers premier league skipper Ryan Nelsen has backed Danny Hay's retention as All Whites captain, healing a potential rift as they prepare for two huge World Cup warm-up games in South America. Nelsen heals wounds by backing Hay as skipper The All Whites tour Costa Rica and Venezuela between March 20-31, hopefully the travel doesnt effect him too much We simply cannot afford to lose him at this stage in the season. I will be very suprised if he goes on this tour. He is the captain of Rovers and if we are to make a top eight finish we need him.
Blueboy Downunder Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 totally agree mate. he is an integral part of our end of season push. if he goes and gets injured then sparky would be livid. he is far more important to club than what he is to his country.
den Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Anyone know if Nelsens' hamstring injury is related to his injury that was operated on earlier this season and threatened his career?
thenodrog Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Anyone know if Nelsens' hamstring injury is related to his injury that was operated on earlier this season and threatened his career? Dunno but it's worrying.
gazsimm Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Dunno but it's worrying. after the Bolton game Nelson was limping quite badly, when he came over to thank the fans. So i was quite suprised he even got in 45 minutes yesterday fingers cross he will be back for the Hammers
gbax Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Radio Lancs have just said in their sports news that he will not be fit for the West Ham game! :-( Oh well, get him fit for the Semi-final!
Hypo-Luxa Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 As much as losing Nelsen for the rest of the year or for an extended run of games saddens me, it doesn't worry me as much as before. Zurab and Samba have done very well together when they've played. Now, I'm not saying Zurab's a direct replacement for Ryan, but he's done well enough this year with Samba that the mere thought of losing Ryan for a spell doesn't send me into apoplexic seizures...
Cocker Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 I wish he didnt have to play for NZ. We finally get him back, he then needs to miss a couple more games and will end up getting injured again playing for them. Tisnt fair I tell thy
waggy Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 nelsen's operation has not been the sucsess first thought,he is not trianing between games, and is now struggling from one weekend to another, wrap the man in cotton wool sparky till the semi's
modes98 Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 I wish he didnt have to play for NZ. He could very easily stop playing for New Zealand but i doubt he would do that. I notice Benni has retired from international football. Although with most teams from down south playing their friendlies in london it does make things slightly better. Still the issue of pointless friendlies exists. Ryan has been getting back to normal and better each game. I hope he can come back soon and get that partnership with Samba back up and running.
philipl Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Read Foxx's link above and wince- he bust his scar against Citeh
Perth_Rover Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 We don't need to worry about that tour now. http://www.tribalfootball.com/article.php?id=32627 A little bit of a bright side for us.
sussexrover Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Groundhog Day? Now they are just repeating stories from last summer.
Kai Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Nelsen's just signed a new 5 year contract Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ers/6272484.stm Very good news IMO. It hopefully means that we can all expect a period of stability at the club.
youandwhosearmy Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 i dont see the reasoning behind offering him a new contract. He only signed a four year one last year, so had three left. This coupled with his age makes me question giving him another one, whereby he will be 34 by the time he leaves.
rover_groo Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Quite surprised by this announcement due to the one he signed last season, but one that I am delighted to hear about this one. I've never seen a proper centre half at the club since the days of Colin Hendry (bar the exception of Craig Short) and will never forget that clearance against West Ham a two seasons ago. I've spoken to the man on a numerous occasions and he is a very down to earth person and extremely intelligent. Lets hope that he can manage these next five years on top form, free from injury and less insults from 'Arry' with a poxy £6million bid.
