Biddy Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Thats insane, i would understand the price if the games were cheaper. But the games are gonna cost about £50 each...! So its basically gonna cost £550 for a PS3 and 1 game!? The cost has inflated due to the inclusion of the much over-hyped blue-ray drive. Remember the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on is an extra £130 therefore if that were included with the console, it would be £410 for the premium. Also, Sony know early adopters will buy the PS3 at whatever cost so they will re-coup as much R&D costs as they can. Once the euphoria has died down and cost savings can be found on chip / part production (probably in about a year) the console will then start to drop in price. For some very strange reason, American PS3's are currently going on US Ebay for about $2000. Crazy.

Guest Kamy100 Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Don't know where you got £425 from but play.com have a pre-order with 3 games for £549.99 so I'd say £499 for the base console is more like it Link to play.com The £425 price is for the 60GB Version, the package that Play are offering is bundled with games, most online retailers and shops like GAME will not force you to buy "bundled" games if you decide to pre-order.
heapbag Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 I got my hands on a PS3 today at Wal-mart. Can't wait to play it tonight. Problem was I was so excited to get my hands on one that I forgot to buy a game with it..have to make another stop after work.
heapbag Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 (edited) Just a quick update on the PS3 if anyone is interested. I got home, opened up the box and found the console itself to be smart looking. However, I was greatly disappointed to find that they supply you with a composite (A/V) cable instead of at the very least a component cable. I mean I did get the 60Gb PS3 so you're shelling out some serious cash so they could have thrown in a better cable. Even the Xbox 360 gives you a 2-in-1 component/composite cable. Secondly, the wireless controller needs charging via a USB cable connected from the controller to the front of the PS3 itself. Like the 360 plug 'n play charger, you can still play while having the USB cable attached but the problem is: 1) the PS3 needs to be kept on while the controller charges and 2) the USB cable is only 3ft long which is hardly long enough I found the menu system on the PS3 to be simplistic, yet very functional and easy to use. I bought Resistance: Fall of Man and am already hooked, but I'm not totally blown away cos of the crap cable they provided! Edited December 21, 2006 by heapbag
Biddy Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 (edited) Still, it's better than the console they provided Europe with! Out of interest, are you going to be buying any Blu-Ray films? If so, could you let us know how the PS3 performs as a player. I've read lots on the 360's HD add on but haven't searched out information on the PS3 as we can't get it anyway. Really, the cable is your biggest problem I never see any of my cables because they are all tucked away through the back draw where my playstation sits. I am very jealous of you having one of these. Any new games you pick up could you post an update (most game mags dont seem to ring true with their reviews latley )

I haven't bought any Blu-Ray films as of yet, but I hope to purchase some in the New Year. I've been a bit naughty getting the PS3 as I'm supposed to be saving up for a wedding in May (if she left me would she get half my PS3 I wonder??) Seemed kind of lame to me that's all. But I will definately post an update on any new games I pick up. Lair is tops on my list as the next game I want. Edited December 21, 2006 by heapbag
Baz Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Saving up for one. Just got £60 for my second hand PS2 from someone at work (didnt even give them the games either) - superb. Its been sat in the top of a cupboard since my 360 arrived.
Eddie Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Well, you're only 1/10 of the way towards having the console, a game and a couple of controllers...

Hughesy Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 A guy i know can get the PS3's now - but they are Jap version. 20 gb & 60gb. Dont know if its worth risking a foreign console though?
Eddie Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 If you are happy to either chip it or have a source for different region games then I can't see a problem with doing it, provided it is a good deal.
Guest Kamy100 Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 It looks like Sony are finally going to spill the beans regarding the launch of the PS3 in Europe, an announcement is due this Tuesday. This is what they are more than likely going to say: * PS3 will be released on 23rd March 2007 * They will only be selling the 60GB version with the 20GB version being released in the Summer. * It will cost £425 * European Consumers will get a free gift (Blue Ray Movie - Casino Royale) * They will confirm the number of units that will be available * They will confirm that there will be 20 launch games, these will include Resistance, Motor Storm, Fight Night 3 and Virtua Tennis.
heapbag Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 (edited) Well as Kamy said, it's official now: European Launch 1 million units set to be shipped with an expected 300,000 units available for the UK. Add me when you get the black beauty guys!! PSN ID: heapbag Edited January 25, 2007 by heapbag
Guest Kamy100 Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Aye all the details confirmed, 300,000 in UK seems like a decent enough number, I would think that shops should start pre-orders today or tomorrow. PSN ID: SilkeyWilkey

heapbag Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 (edited) No, yesterday you had a picture of some sort of hand controler there? Oh haha! You're talking about the ill-fated "Power Glove". It was a controller that came out during the NES years. Apparently old ideas are new again and Nintendo decided to use the idea for the "Wii" Power Glove Edited January 26, 2007 by heapbag
