LeChuck Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 He was playing left-midfield as well i beleive. 387461 Up-front with Nugent.
herbergeehh Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 After an impressive performance, Taylor backed Bentley to provide the solution to England's problem position on the left side of midfield. Asked whether Bentley could play for the senior team, Taylor said: "He is definitely capable of it. He can use both feet, he has pace, tremendous stamina and very good ability. When he scored his two goals, he was playing on the left of a four-man midfield and making some excellent runs. Guardian
Jolly Giraffe Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Bentley played the first half on the left and was switched up front in the second half. With a performance like that he should find himself above Pongo in the pecking order. Bring on the Spuds!
Eddie Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 He's 21 and has shown great potential in my opinion, why cash in on him? I think he's got a lot of ability and in a couple of years time he could be a very good premiership player.

LeChuck Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Guardian 387494 Ah, fair enough. I'm sure he started up-front with Milner on the left though...I did leave before the second half, so...it probably changed.
RoyRover Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 When I turned the England game on, Bentley had scored his goals, but it was great to hear that he had scored two. He obviously has a lot of talent and Hughes is starting to get the best out of him. His hat-trick against United showed what I good player he could be for us over the years and that it could be another bit of great business from Hughes. But he isn't able to get into the first team and I think that says quite a bit about how strong our team must be at the moment.
herbergeehh Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 (edited) Whoooooooooooooosh! 387521 Bentley has been more efficient and stabile after signing on permanently, he's really impressed me. When coming on against Arsenal, he did well every time he was involved, with a great pass to Bellamy (when Lehmann came out) and also holding up the ball very well by the cornerflag. Could turn out to be a brilliant signing by Hughes, he has all the attributes needed imo - he just needs to use them in the right way. By the way, does anyone have a link for highlights? tcj_jones Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 I'm really glad that we bought him before his hattrick against UTD and his two goals for England. Otherwise his value could have doubled.
philipl Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Just seen that the ref last night for the England u-21 game was Mr Attard of Malta.

philipl Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 (edited) Bentley profiled in the Daily Telegraph Verbatem the same story is in the Independent. Some journo is in the soup! Edited March 2, 2006 by philipl
Ozz Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Probably some add ons if he plays for England, IE more cash to Highbury ?
philipl Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 It was an undisclosed deal but there was no press speculation at the time that it was anything other than a stright transfer deal.
Guest Kamy100 Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 (edited) Edit just seen Phillips post about the telegraph article. Edited March 2, 2006 by Kamy100
philipl Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Alan Smith writing an excellent profile of Bentley in the Dialy Telegraph. Interesting to read of him feeling isolated as an Englishman at Arsenal in the youth set-up. A good thing about Bentley, having just bought him from a Champs League club, press clamour for him to be transferred away from Ewood will be a long time in coming. I still think the Joe Cole analogy for this lad could hold good. In which case, thank you very much Mr Wenger.
herbergeehh Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Agree on the Joe Cole comparison, a difference is that Cole played regularly for West Ham though.
Florida Rover Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Apologies if i have missed the discussion, but, why did Bentley not get called up to the U21 squad that won today over in Germany? Is he injured or did he have a falling out with Taylor or what?Seems he had aquitted himself well in previous U21 matches and no one can deny he's been on a hot streak of sorts.
colin Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Florida, He was born 27th August 1984 which makes him 22 years old ( I had to take my socks off to count that!) Now too old for the under 21's here
