Timmy Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 One of the downsides of the increase of TV football coverage is the increase in numbers of football pundits. I would expect there to a union for them there are so many these days....but by far the most annoying of all pundits has got to be Ally McCoist, followed by Andy Townsend, followed by any other ITV pundit. any suggestion?

No doubt he's touted himself for England job again!
krislu Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 That guy on BBC who sits next to Gary Linaker, dont know his name though.
Rovers_4_life Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Mark Lawrenson, LE Saux on MOTD2, Alan Smith, Steve Claridge etc. To name but a few. The worst has to be John Moston though.
EIEIEIO Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Trevor Francis, Jim Beglin and Elton Welsby for me.
rover6 Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 I've always thought Jim Beglin was one of the better ones.
Shaft Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Fierce competition for this, but Garth Crooks is insuferable.
Exiled_Rover Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 The screaming Sky bloke, Martin Tyler is it? The tag team of Gray and Tyler really rubs me up the wrong way, the hyperbole is unbearable - they'll slate a player one game and put him on a pedestal the next.
McClarky Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 As a commentator I can't stand Clive Tyldesley. He's always on about how the other team are cheating when he's doing these European games. He also demands a booking for every foul against the team he wants to win and yet comdemns players for demanding bookings.....arse. ITV basically assume that the viewers are too ignorant to decide who they want to win a game so have to be influenced by an incredibly biased commentary.
RoyRover Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 David Pleat, Garth Crooks, Mark Bright, Steve Claridge, Mark Lawrenson and Trevor Francis are all crap IMO. Andy Gray irritates me as well.
Tango Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Don Goodman and Thingy Rosenior rarely have a clue what they're going on about, Le Saux, Bright, Pleat and Peacock are all rubbish too.
Hasta Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 John Motson and Lawro when they're together. Absolute drivel. I end up sticking Radio 5 on.
brfcshabba Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Pleat, Lawrenson,Beglin, Carlton Palmer and Garth Crooks, Commentator Steve Wilson
Exiled_Rover Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 John Motson and Lawro when they're together. Absolute drivel. I end up sticking Radio 5 on. 394371[/snapback] Unfortunately that can end up worse, Green and co tend to dwell upon an incident and try their upmost to sensationalise it at the expense of the listener knowing wtf is happening with the game!
Backroom trueblue Posted March 28, 2006 Backroom Posted March 28, 2006 In the order of whom I hate the most... Jim 'when I used to play' Beglin David Pleat Elton Welsby(sp?) Garth Crooks
tcj_jones Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Andy Townsend. Learn to speak English and then maybe you would be a good commentator.
tcj_jones Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Recently I have seen Garth Crookes on the bbc and I have to say he has been spot on and not at all biased.
sibbald Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Probably be harder naming a decent commentator rather than poor ones.
Flopsy Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 DAV ___________________ ID BLO __________________OD Y PLEA_________________T And his disjointed sent ences Sod off you were a crap manager and a worse commentator Lawro and Motson are Barry Davies compared to him grrrrrr
Presty On Tour Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 leighton james, mind most people on the mb wouldn't of seen him as a pundit as they can't watch wales on saturday. if you heard the radio coversation with savage its pretty similar to that every week. lawro is up there, can't stand him!! " in a moooooooooooooment" ian wright to winds me up, acts like a little school boy sometimes. i always liked the motson/brooking partnership
FourLaneBlue Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 (edited) Andy Gray is one of the best and has also stuck up for Rovers when need be. Amazed to hear people don't rate him, similarly Martin Tyler. Charlie Nicholas is another who knows his stuff. Steve Claridge is one of the least informed of the pundits. Seems to have a dislike for us as well, almost as bad as Rodney Marsh was in that respect. Lawro is an idiot but we kind of expect that by now, along with his atrocious jokes and Lineker's dodgy puns.' I'll go for Phil Thompson however as the biggest twerp on the telly. As for commentators...Jonathon Pearce's style just seems to be to talk up every incident as if it is of global importance rather than just a throw-in to West Ham or a goal-kick to Bolton. Just doesn't work on the TV, unlike the radio as I used to like him when he just commentated on games for Capital Gold in the London area. Edited March 29, 2006 by FourLaneBlue
Radagast Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Charlie Nicholas is another who knows his stuff. Bwahahahahahahaha. Dear me. My personal dislikes include John "didn't he?" Motson and Alan Smith. Someone on here made an excellent point about him recently - he makes up his mind on something after 5 minutes and then spends the rest of the match championing it, even when the evidence in front of his very eyes contradicts it. Rob McLean who presents on Setanta (used to do the commentary on the Scottish Sportscene) is an utter nightmare to listen to. "And....that flag from the assistant.....indicates.....that the forward was....offside." Stop speaking in staccatto you irritating git!
Ray-Von Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Just out of interest, whatever happened to Elton Welsby? Im missing his obsession with Oldham Athletic and Tranmere on Kick Off (younger members...wake your Dad up and ask.)
brfcshabba Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 "Welsby has become something of the forgotton man of television sports coverage, although he has recently been seen presenting Crown Green Bowls for Sky Sports. He is currently also touring the country with Ricky Tomlinson in the theatre tour, An Evening with Ricky Tomlinson, where he interviews Tomlinson in- character as Jim Royle" Thanks to Wikipedia
