philipl Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Back it comes tonight. The English clubs can use it like the Carling Cup until the knock out phase- their opponents are below the standard they normally face in the PL for the most part. Inter v Barca will be a bit tasty though.
philipl Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 All four English clubs won- what a surprise.
Hughesy Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 All four English clubs won- what a surprise. Probably was to Arsenal after being 2-0 down after 5 mins. None of them actually looked convincing in their wins did they.
Cocker Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Inter v Barca will be a bit tasty though. It wasn't though was it. Inter just spent the whole match defending while Barca tried to walk it into the net. I missed it last season but like that when you watch a game it flashes up the goal alert and if you want to see it you hit the red button. The second Arsenal goal should never have stood but the commentary was funny - he sounded like a little girl
philipl Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 (edited) Europa Cup. Rapid Vienna who did for Villa are two up in the first half against Hamburg. Is it only me but these Europa Cup games look much more like proper European encounters than the CL now they have amended the rules to give the likes of Valletta FC a decent chance of qualifying for the Group stages. The Prof. Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Europa Cup Schmuck. Boring until the semis. 3 good games a year thats all.
Oklahoma Posted September 17, 2009 Author Posted September 17, 2009 Janko scored the winner for Salzburg against Lazio today...
tonygreenbank Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Have to cofess that I have not bothered watching any European football this week. Am I losing interest in life as we know it? I am bored watching the same old teams earning ridiculous amounts of money and watching the gap getting ever wider between the haves and have nots. I dont care what happens. I dont like the anthem; the silly mastercard advert etc. Everyone knows who will go through to the next stage so why bother with it.

I came to that conclusion about the Champions league a few years ago. It's designed to be just a procession of elite clubs in the early stages. Crap and uninteresting.
jim mk2 Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 The Champions League is a bore. But the old European Cup with knockout ties in every round was a fantastic, exciting competition. Looking back, the 1970/80s with Uefa Cup in Tuesday nights, the European Cup on Wednesday and the Cup-winners' Cup on Thursday were halcyon days for European football. Sky TV has much to answer for.
rog of the rovers Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 (edited) I was similarly un moved, however I flicked around and ended up watching the Athletic Bilbao Europa League match on ITV 4, and it was a really good game. Bilbao where terrific to watch and have plenty of skill, pace, movement and refreshingly a home grown team of players born local and playing for the name on the front of the shirt rather than the back. They demolished a poor side, but unlike Liverpool, they did it with style, creativity and flair. If you get a chance to watch them then do. They are like Arsenal but without the nasty streak. Also, I believe I saw a future star, 16 year old Iker Muniain (Maybe he's known to the FM lot?) he was outstanding. A second striker who was a cross between Xavi and Arshavin, took his goal very well and generally impressed from start to finish. Remember the name IKER MUNIAIN Edited September 18, 2009 by rog of the rovers

Shaddy Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 (edited) Anyone know why Derbyshire didn't play for Olympiakos??? Is he injured, or dropped by the new coach? EDIT I should say, he wasn't even in the squad according to http://www.skysports.com/football/match_fa...3190164,00.html Edited September 18, 2009 by Shaddy

Hughesy Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Gioddamit, if he was here he would be starter Derbsyhire would be a starter? He would now be 6th choice - behind Benni, Roberts, Di Santo, Kalinic & Junior
roversmum Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Was mentioned a couple of weeks ago - he had an injury which I believe would take a few weeks to clear.
Oklahoma Posted September 18, 2009 Author Posted September 18, 2009 Someone from Blackburn was watching Benfica - BATE boresov yesterday. Benfica won 2-0 and Cardozo scored the second goal.
joey_big_nose Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Someone from Blackburn was watching Benfica - BATE boresov yesterday. Benfica won 2-0 and Cardozo scored the second goal. Interesting. I wonder why? We haven't got any money and a very full squad...
Oklahoma Posted September 18, 2009 Author Posted September 18, 2009 I think that the scouts should be watching games as often as possible. That way, you may find some good player that could be available for a possible loan on January.

RibbleValleyRover Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Liverpool currently 2-0 down against a decent Fiorentina side, 19 year old Jovetic with both goals. Rangers losing 2-0 to Sevilla. Arsenal currently 0-0 with Olympiakos.
Steve Moss Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Arsenal currently 0-0 with Olympiakos. Arsenal wins 2-0 http://www.arsenal.com/match-menu/3190172/first-team/arsenal-v-olympiacos?tab=comm
