Mr. E Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 The CL road ends here. You can't do what we've done today and want to play with the best of Europe. I feel bad for Bellamy.
Exiled_Rover Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 We're still several players away from a quality team, though we've done well to get this far. Credit goes to Hughes.
yellowsubmarine Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Yes. We can wave goodbye to Champions League football. We still have the UEFA Cup slot to play for.
Rovers Air Force Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 The CL road ends here. You can't do what we've done today and want to play with the best of Europe. I feel bad for Bellamy. 397503 Got it in one! Liverpool and chelsea still to come! the CL dream is over for this season, UAFA the best we can hope for now, but with displays like the last two I would not rule out dropping to 7th place and getting nowt!
blinddevotion Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 disallowed goal for Rovers handball 397501 A disgrace to see a rovers player try and cheat like this!!!! Although he was much better than MGP today.
Blackpool_Rover Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 no chance of 4th now im afraid. Bellamy must be wondering what more he has to do..produces moments of class then has to watch on as muppests concede at the other end. Too many players just arent being noticed in the last 2 games because they are doing nothing. Everything we create is coming from lucas neill, steven reid and bellamy (apart from sav and bentley on the goals today) the rest of the team just hit and hope and blast it anywhere.
Rover4ever Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 I have no idea why Pogolle or kuqi didnt come on for dickov
ihtd Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 All i am going to say is "Champions League, Your 'avin laugh"
Blueboy Downunder Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 i agree with somebodsy not coming on for the dick. two very good goals from bellamy and yet we still only get a point, which i suppose is better than a kick in the ######.
Blackpool_Rover Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 I have no idea why Pogolle or kuqi didnt come on for dickov 397510 Yeah dickov was innefective.
frosty Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Well, it's a point. Just annyoing we were ahead twice and only drew. Come on Liverpool tomorrow.
rover6 Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 what the hell was mokoenna playin at? commited himself stupidly. 397497 Don't diss. Mokoena is world class in the holding role. Our Champs Leagues aspirations might be over but im quite pleased with a point considering how well it sounds like Pompey played.
T4E Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Champions League chances over? How?! We've just moved above Arsenal and they are away to the best team in the league at the minute tomorrow! Bolton need to win both games in hand to catch us, and they wont. We knew Pompey away was going to be tough, we've done well to get a point out of it, whereas Spurs have just played possibly their easiest game of their run in. Chill out chaps, long way to go.
Rover4ever Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 We werent that god but lets not forget Portsmouth were playing for their lives and would have won against a lot of teams. They did win 3 games before this one, on the trot.
Exiled in Toronto Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Well done Hughes for giving Gray the hook at half-time, and hopefully his contract for next year with it. Also good to take off MGP though 10 mins earlier would have been better. Very surprised that Kuqi didn't come on for @#/?. Half the team didn't turn up today though, so we ain't going to unseat Spurs and/or Arsenal that way. Tugay has to come back in and whatever Pongy has done to upset the gaffer, he needs to play the last 4 games (assuming he can't against 'Pool)
frosty Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Bolton need to win both games in hand to catch us, and they wont. It'll be 1 game in hand after tomorrow, where hopefully they will get beat. Then theyd be 6 behind with 1 in hand
USABlue Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 We were fortunate to come away with anything. Dickov a total waste of space. Bellamy two world class strikes. Why is Pongo not playing? any one have any idea? We were ###### with the long ball most of the first half. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that two dwarfs are not going to win many high balls against defenders 6ft or better. Lets have Pongo back and more of that good passing footy. Well done Pompey.
tonyoz Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 big disappointment! its not just the defence........they did cut us to pieces at will but we are impotent in attack. Bellamy is, of course, pure class but where was the support? Dickov, Bentley and Pedersen were garbage....not for the first time. I have seen the Wigan, Aston Villa and Sunderland games and we were poor in all of them. Without Bellamy, there is no cutting edge at all. The Man U , Arsenal and Tottenham games were brilliant but this is crap........ It's a good job Bellamy wasn't playing for Pompey or we would have been murdered!
asianRover Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 (edited) another disappointing performance for rovers once more. what is up with our midfield??? they have been out of it for a couple of games now. you have to admit, in terms of attack, we were a one man team. bellers with 2 fantastic goals. but why on earth wasnt dickov taken off?? next up, liverpool. not looking forward to that match with the way rovers are performing recently. Bobby G Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Disappointing but we didnt deserve more than a point with the way they played. All credit to them. Two below average performances by us but we still took 2 points, not the worst return. Champs League is probably gone now, although Id like to think that we dont get complacent because there will always be a risk of Bolton catching us. If we finish 6th, it would be great, considering everything. It might even be better to move up step by step. However, I fear about the future of Bellers. What a player he is. World class.
The Dart Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 For the 2nd Mokoena commited himself to a stupid challenge which eliminated him from the defence. I think he is complete waste of space. Other than that a point is a remarkable achievement considering the chanches the team with the annoying bell had.
frosty Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 (edited) Champs League is probably gone now No way! We are 5th, Arsenal are at Utd tomorrow, and Tottenham have got Everton the Utd next Edited April 8, 2006 by frosty
T4E Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 (edited) Bolton need to win both games in hand to catch us, and they wont. It'll be 1 game in hand after tomorrow, where hopefully they will get beat. Then theyd be 6 behind with 1 in hand 397520 Add to that Spurs next three games are Everton away, Man United home, Arsenal away. Points will be dropped - if we can get a point against Liverpool, beat Brum away and get a point atleast at Charlton, we'll still be quite close to them. United beating Arsenal for us tomorrow is absolutely vital. After that game they have a steady run in and if they win tomorrow up there I think we can start playing for 5th.
