blue/white Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 I'd go along w/ that, Nellie then Savage.... Say what you want, Lily is a very important element in the engine room & is Sparky's standard bearer out on the pitch.

Welshrover1981 Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Good to hear Reidy the Captain of ireland and that he is happy to commit himself to the club. Come on Neill do the same and commit for another 2 seasons!!!
T4E Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Great news - you cannot have enough leaders - for a player to be captain of his country is absolutely huge. Well done Reidy, make the most of it.
Presty On Tour Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=4...in+bullish+mood reid on club and country.
broadsword Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 for a player to be captain of his country is absolutely huge. Absolutely huge? More like gargantuan, enormous, rather jolly large, almost beyond the bounds of human mensuration.
Presty On Tour Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Any news on his injury from last night yet? nope, i just hope it was a precaution he was brought off. if he is ruled out, with tugay susspended and the axe will be probably knackered from flying to south africa, it could be a centre midfield pairing of savage and bentley.
Cocker Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 if he is ruled out, with tugay susspended and the axe will be probably knackered from flying to south africa, it could be a centre midfield pairing of savage and bentley. Nah, lets just bang three up front - BOOM - 5-0 to the Rovers
G Somerset Rover Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Hes doubtful according to the Rovers official site.
Cocker Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Maybe another chance for Jon Douglas? Wash your mouth out Den.
Presty On Tour Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Maybe another chance for Jon Douglas? no way i would play 3 up front like cocker said than resort to putting douglas in midfield.
pksrover Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 nope, i just hope it was a precaution he was brought off. if he is ruled out, with tugay susspended and the axe will be probably knackered from flying to south africa, it could be a centre midfield pairing of savage and bentley. I think Bentley and Sav was to play in centre of midfield anyway..Reidy was meant to play on the right, just as they did against NZ..so lets hope for Gallagher on the right, since Emerton probably won't be fit! Den: Douglas is useless
AggyBlue Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Den: Douglas is useless So he's OK as cover for Savage then
krislu Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Anybody hear the words of Benni regarding his team-mate Steven Reid? You should think he was talking about Zidane... I reckon Reid are in for a brilliant season!
Hughesy Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 No dont have roverworld - what did Benni have to say? Gutted if Reid is out.
krislu Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 No dont have roverworld - what did Benni have to say? He was asked if he was impressed with any of his new team-mates. Then he said something along the lines of "Reid..woooow, brilliant player, bla bla"...
rover6 Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 (edited) Wrong thread to make this point, I know, but as much as Douglas is definitely not the answer to our midfield problems - I think he could do a job as a stop-gap if only he would alter the style of his game. Too many midfielders in the British game think it is essential to be a box-to-box midfielder - despite the fact they are woeful going forward. On the continent, you get specialist defensive midfielders who accept their crucial role in protecting the back four and aren't seduced by the glory of scoring goals. Douglas' inadequate skill and technique and lack of shooting ability (yes that Fulham goal was good - but look at his goal record for Chesterfield, Gillingham and Leeds) mean that he shouldn't be wasting his or our time going forward. He's a big strong lad - why doesn't he play a genuine holding role and break-up the opposition play in an Aaron Mokoena type way? Imagine the Axe trying to gallop forward and score goals? Exactly - you can't. Douglas should play to his strengths. Edited August 17, 2006 by rover6
Flopsy Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 that goal against Fulham was great - especially as he shinned it in. Anymore news on how injured reidy is?
Uxbridge rover Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Douglas looked good in parts against Holand the other night
Presty On Tour Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Douglas looked good in parts against Holand the other night was that after the dutch had torn him and the irish team "apart" i'll get me coat
joey_big_nose Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 I would guess if reid doesn't make it we would play Bentrley on the centre and Emerton on the right, putting Gallagher wide would mean a very weak tackling midifield. Buy a central midfielder!!
pksrover Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 .... Douglas should play to his strengths. ....at a lower level... was that after the dutch had torn him and the irish team "apart" i'll get me coat I would guess if reid doesn't make it we would play Bentrley on the centre and Emerton on the right, putting Gallagher wide would mean a very weak tackling midifield. Buy a central midfielder!! so what?! we have done all the tackling in the premiership for the last 18 months..lets attack!!!

dillo_dillo Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 REID'S BACK BREAK HELL BLACKBURN star Steven Reid could miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his back. http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/tm_...-name_page.html REID'S BACK BREAK HELL By Alan Nixon BLACKBURN star Steven Reid could miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his back. The Republic of Ireland midfielder made the discovery when scans were taken on his persistent problem. The verdict is that he will be sidelined for around five months. Reid had played in pain earlier in the season and has been missing for the past few games as Mark Hughes's medical team tried to get to the bottom of the trouble. Now the news is bad and Reid may be in traction for about six weeks before further checks are made to see if the injury has healed properly. Blackburn skipper Ryan Nelsen will be out until the new year after his major hamstring operation.
