Flopsy Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 I hope you asked him how many of their prolific strikers scored 14 goals last season? Still so long as he's happy. There's a lot to look forward to in the Championship. (try and keep a straight face here) Id rather we went for Gera - he is a class winger who would show up Emerton with ease

rover6 Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 (edited) Gera playing blind-folded would probably out-perform Emerton. Not to be too harsh on our World Cup star. Wasn't the problem with Roberts at WBA that he ran defences ragged but proceeded to miss the glorious chances that were presented to him? Now he seems to have found the confidence to find the net, he's sure to be a decent signing. Edited July 5, 2006 by rover6
Bobby G Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Im disappointed that we havent ever been linked with Gera.
ABBEY Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Im disappointed that we havent ever been linked with Gera. ROVERS LINKED WITH GERA
Oakland Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2002390...6300565,00.html 3mil for roberts? 2mil? http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/tm_...-name_page.html 2.25 mil? http://www.lancashireeveningtelegraph.co.u..._in_a_dream.php Why don't the media admit they have no idea as the deal is undisclosed? If that 2.25 mil figure is right, it was a good busines!

My boss agrees with that and said that Earnshaw was rubbish and scored 14 goals last season - I pointed out that they stayed up last season and not this. Any correlation? That shut him up - still Ive already got my promotion and pay rise this year they cant get that back off me
SouthAussieRover Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Well, we would have Dunn, Derbyshire, Gally, Waggy, Steb, Bob Fleming, Cocker, den, you, me etc etc Bob Fleming?? You've got to be kidding mate. He's a friggin joke He's not even good enough to lace up my boots.
bob fleming Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 It’s a good job you’re in Australia SAR otherwise we’d have to have a kick about. I’d turn you inside out that often you’d end up with twisted blood. Well maybe not. Anyway as for lacing your boots, I bet you don’t even wear boots, probably ‘pumps’ or ballet shoes. You big girl.
Karembeu Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Hey guy! I don't know how you guy feel. But I felt that we have 3 good signing so far. For a young keeper, I am not sure how good he is but it is always good to have a few young one to back up our team. Two striker is the most important to our team now, after dickov and Bellamy, we really need two more striker at least. Considering the money we spend on them. I felt it was very well spend. We get one of free. Which is jeffer. I believe he will add depth to our squad. Not forgeting he score in his England debut. Maybe he have some up and down in his carrer but if he really put in effort to work out. I believe he can be someone important for us. Plus I really wanted to give credit to our managment. They sign him a deal that require him to play well to get more money. Money is always a good motivation. Am I correct? Roberts record speak for himself. 14 goal for a season is really not a bad record. Consider wigan just promoted and his Goal did not come easy too (He created a lot of space for himself to score). 3 million I felt is not a bad deal. I am not sure how much hughes can still spend but if he sell Bellamy for 6 million, we have about 3 million to spend from the profit we earn and let say this year we are given another 5 million, then we have about 8 million to spend. In my own opinion, I really hope that Hughes can get us a big signing. I felt after Bellamy has gone, we are like losing a 'Star Factor' in our team. Don't get me wrong, our player is as good as anyone but if we can have a 'world class player' like Pele, Maradona. Won't that be nice. Haha, I know I am dreaming but look at Itailian league now, I believe some of the team is really going to have a drop. Why not take this chance to someone? Whatever it is, I am happy with the player we have now. Let hopes more to come!
roverich Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Read the news with a smile on my face. I think it's a good signing for us, definitely better than Jeffers who I really hope can find form rarely seen and maybe we can see a good partnership. Shame we can't get a player of Bellamy's calibre but given our situation (only being a "small" club) I'm happy with this signing and hope he can live upto expectation. I agree with Karembeu's opinions of us missing a "star factor" and I believe there's space in our midfield for a skillful attacker. Love Reid but he's not outstanding and Tugay is too old. If we go on to sign two more players this summer, I'd be delighted to see a decent defender and a proven midfielder.
Eddie Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Good news is Rovers have also gained at least one supporter out of this deal. A friend of mine was a Wigan supporter simply because of Roberts but has now seen the light.
Fife Rover Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 (edited) July 2006 - "Good afternoon everyone, we've just signed Craig Bellamy, we got him on the cheap. However we'd just like to take this opportunity to point out that if he plays a blinder this season a Champions League club can buy him for a paltry £6 million quid. We're not happy about it but his agent insisted on the clause. We just thought we'd better bring it to your attention." Happier now Blueboy? You missed out James Beattie, joey_big_nose and USABlue. Other than that I can't think of any others. Jim Bowen? (probably too old now, he's catching Tugay up) I hope you asked him how many of their prolific strikers scored 14 goals last season? Still so long as he's happy. There's a lot to look forward to in the Championship. (try and keep a straight face here) For what it's worth I'm very happy with the signing. As others have said he caused us and others problems last season. Thought he looked strong and held the ball up well. He scored the equaliser for the piemen against us back in April. Not wishing to appear pedantic Bob, but I think you will find it was Roberts that scored first for Wigan, and Kuqi that scored the equaliser for us. Sorry!! Edited July 5, 2006 by Fife Rover
LeChuck Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Possibly this should be the first question to all potential signings? Why? I can't see how it affects anything...plenty of players that have come through Liverpool's academy started off as Everton fans, we'd look ridiculous if we turned down a player because of who he supports.

Sorry!! You're quite right, Kuqi equalised with a 25 yard screamer, I remember now. I still think that Roberts is a good signing though.
HertsRover Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Anybody got any concrete info on how much we actually paid for Roberts? Ive read on a number of websites(including the beeb) that the fee was actually £3mil. Anybody know any different?

Mark Atkins' Bald Patch Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 £2.5 million. Or £2.25 if you believe the LET. Don't think anybody really knows except for the 2 clubs. My gues would be closer to 2 than 3. Especially considering Wigan's first bid for savage was reported at Roberts plus £1m. Then their second (improved) offer was £3m.
