Shevchenko Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 OK...I've got: The Beatles - Stg Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) Marvin Gaye - What's Going On? (1971) Joni Mitchell - Blue (1971) The Clash - London Calling (1979) The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses (1989) Radiohead - The Bends (1995) Michael Jackson - Thriller (1982) I'm one of those who prefers "Revolver" to "Stg Pepper's" and I'm also a great fan of "Rubber Soul". "What's Going On" is one of my favorite albums ever, everyone should own it.
bb3 Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 (edited) Good read that Col,cheers. Happy Mondays should be in there though. I've got: The Clash-London calling(1979) The Stone Roses-The Stone Roses(1989) The Ramones-The Ramones(1976) The Who-My Generation(1965) Radiohead-The Bends(1995) The Smiths-The Smiths(1984) Talking Heads-Fear of Music(1979) The Strokes-Is This It?(2001) Edited July 16, 2006 by bb3
American Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Pompous overblown read. Like the following: 47 Nirvana Nevermind (1991) You might argue Nirvana's landmark album changed nothing whatsoever. All their best seditious instincts came to nothing, after all. And yet Nevermind still rocks mightily, capturing a moment when the vituperative US underground imposed its agenda on the staid mainstream. Without this ... no Seattle scene, no Britpop, no Pete Doherty. Nevermind (pardon the pun) that Ten came out 6 months earlier and would still have been successful even had Nevermind not been released...
bob fleming Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 For what it's worth I have... The Beatles - Sgt Peppers - 1967 The Clash - London Calling - 1979 Stone Roses - Stone Roses - 1989 Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath - 1970 The Ramones - The Ramones - 1976 Massive Attack - Blue Lines - 1991 Radiohead - The Bends - 1995 Primal Scream - Screamadelica - 1991 Nirvana - Nevermind - 1991 The Strokes - Is This It? - 2001 De La Soul - 3Ft High & Rising - 1989 Reminded me that I need to sort my life out and get The Stooges Raw Power.
Paul Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 I have kicking around the house somewhere: The Beatles ~ Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) Robert Johnson ~ King of the Delta Blues Singers (1961) purchased in the 80s Bob Dylan ~ Bringing it All Back Home (1965) The Beach Boys ~ Pet Sounds (1966) The Clash ~ London Calling (1979) Stevie Wonder ~ Songs in the Key of Life (1976) Pink Floyd ~ The Dark Side of the Moon (1973) Otis Redding ~ Otis Blue (1965) The Who ~ My Generation (1965) Fairport Convention ~ Liege and Lief (1969) I worry about some of those dates All on vinyl and we don't have a turntable or even a Dansette! It isn't a "best ever" list so I suppose that explains the abscence of magnificent stuff like The Stones "Exile on Main Street" or Bob Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks" - which surely should be in there somewhere.
blue phil Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Nice to see so many Ramones fans out there . Check out the DVD's End of the century and Ramones Raw . Available on E-bay...
Simon Says Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Pompous overblown read. Like the following: Nevermind (pardon the pun) that Ten came out 6 months earlier and would still have been successful even had Nevermind not been released... True American. The "Seattle Scene" started with a band called Green River, who morphed into Mother Love Bone who then became Pearl Jam. Other notables around at the time were Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Mudhoney. Nirvana arrived very late onto an already burgeoning scene. It is a complete myth that they were early leading lights.
mode_m Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 True American. But I think Nevermind made it to number 1 on the album charts where as none of the other bands achieved this? Could be wrong. Never the less, I like all of those bands, Alice in Chains probably my favourite of them all.
Simon Says Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Pearl Jam released 10 in 1991 and it became one of the best selling albums of all time. They followed this up with Vs, Vitalogy and No Code. All reached number 1 in the US. in fact Vs sold an incredible 1 million copies in its first week of sale. Oh by the way I am not doubting Nirvanas commericial success, or the influence they had and continue to have. Just their place in the early Seattle scene.
Radagast Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 34 Black Sabbath Black Sabbath (1970) Without this ... no Spinal Tap, no grunge or Kurt Cobain and, of course, no Osbournes. Sad. I own four of those albums in one format or another.

Ozz Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 I have 26 of the Observer top 50, and I presume this makes me more of complete human than the rest of you swine. Typical Observer tunnel vision, missed this classic.
grizfoot Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Girls Aloud - Black Holes And Revelations Was that meant to be a joke or is it just a very bad mistake?
JC4LAB Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Operation Mindcrime by Queensryche is one of my favourites
Radagast Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Operation Mindcrime by Queensryche is one of my favourites Great album. Shame they turned to crappy post-grunge radio rock afterwards. Actually, the new album (Operation: Mindcrime II) isn't bad.
Flopsy Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 For those youngsters out there - Possibly the best intro to a song ever Clicky When sticking three songs together in one single was almost compulsory - Turn the sound right up (just dont ask about the video - bloody students)
