I'm one of those who prefers "Revolver" to "Stg Pepper's" and I'm also a great fan of "Rubber Soul". "What's Going On" is one of my favorite albums ever, everyone should own it.

Nevermind (1991)

You might argue Nirvana's landmark album changed nothing whatsoever. All their best seditious instincts came to nothing, after all. And yet Nevermind still rocks mightily, capturing a moment when the vituperative US underground imposed its agenda on the staid mainstream. Without this ... no Seattle scene, no Britpop, no Pete Doherty.

Nevermind (pardon the pun) that Ten came out 6 months earlier and would still have been successful even had Nevermind not been released...

I worry about some of those dates All on vinyl and we don't have a turntable or even a Dansette!

It isn't a "best ever" list so I suppose that explains the abscence of magnificent stuff like The Stones "Exile on Main Street" or Bob Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks" - which surely should be in there somewhere.

But I think Nevermind made it to number 1 on the album charts where as none of the other bands achieved this? Could be wrong. Never the less, I like all of those bands, Alice in Chains probably my favourite of them all.

Pearl Jam released 10 in 1991 and it became one of the best selling albums of all time.

They followed this up with Vs, Vitalogy and No Code. All reached number 1 in the US. in fact Vs sold an incredible 1 million copies in its first week of sale.

Oh by the way I am not doubting Nirvanas commericial success, or the influence they had and continue to have. Just their place in the early Seattle scene.
