cloggyjimmybrfc Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 massive hole? He's told 2 people. One a dutch guy who is unlikely to ever see a live Rovers match and the other, a drunk who will most likely have forgotten what he told him or probably spoke to the wrong player. if your refering to me greggyk,im actually born and bred blackburner, sorry ive confused you,and also i get to a lot of live games too pal.and btw this is to ALL the rovers fans now...i was actually makin a light hearted bit of fun about it...im not that stupid to think lucas is gonna tell me what hes future is.it was just a question most people would have asked him...or maybe i shouldve asked him, how is bondi beach good this time of year or maybe what size shoes do you take??....next time ill keep the meetin of players to myself eh?

SarahJ Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 (edited) I was at the match on Saturday and thought Benni looked ok. It is hard to say really in pre seasons (I think) but it looked encouraging. Savage was lucky not to be sent off!! I thought the turn out was a bit poor but assumed that people were dotted about in the home ends. I am feeling positive about the new season. Drakefyre Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 The photos were great. It's brilliant to see Benni in the Rovers shirt at last. I had the same feelings when I saw that picture of Aaron Mokoena, jumping through the air and missing the ball. Lets hope he doesn't have to play at right back too often. I'm pretty sure that this was a shot he was trying to block with his head.
SarahJ Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 (edited) did sav have a spell on the right ? it's something rovers have tried earlier in pre-season. He was in the centre with Bentley while he was on. Can't say that I really noticed him out on the right but I didn't really notice him do anything apart from attempting to get himself sent off!! I could be wrong, must admit I was more interested in the defence and our new strike force. Edited August 7, 2006 by SarahJ

Ste B Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Pics from Aachen now HERE Aachen player and Savage Booked Team Lineup
Ste B Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 taken from a Sheff U site about the trouble in Rotterdam at the weekend Then we heard about the troubles outside. It seems that 200 Feyenoord idiots ( I won't call them supporters) had stormed the Sparta supporters club within the stadium. They attacked both Blades and Sparta fans. I've read Sparta forums today and many Sparta fans were disgusted with the Feyenoord thugs. It seems they also attacked 2 Blades fans who were sat outside a cafe having a drink and stabbed at least one of them. I cannot tell you how angry I am with these scum! They had nothing to do with the game, they had no need to be there, and they ruined what had been a perfectly wonderful atmosphere! Consequently, all the Blades fans were herded onto buses and bussed to whichever town in the area that we wanted to go to.We had to go back to the Hague and we were escorted the whole way by riot vans in front and behind us and 6 ME(armed riot police)inside the bus. Now I'm sure this may have been quite scary for some children there, but it was quite impressive by the Dutch Police that they put our safety first before any financial costs and made sure we got out of the city safe and sound.Even when we got to the Hague there were another 3 riot vans full of police waiting for us and 4 Motorcycle cops, 2 mounted police and 5 police cars. Just to make sure that we weren't going to be ambushed as soon as they let us off the bus. All amazing and surreal stuff!

C'mon now Cloggy, don't get upset. We are mostly a friendly bunch on here. There are a few who occasionally get stroppy or beligerent but we soon cool them down with a nice ice cold bucket of sarcasm. The vast majority are OK. Keep posting, you are very welcome.

Jordan Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Hello everyone, currently in an Internet cafe in Amsterdam getting stoned as the bird next to me is smoking a massive joint. Shame!!!! Has a cracking time so far. First night went for a few quite drinks in Cologne....ended up getting back to the Hotel at 8am with JPW and then got up at 10:00 for the train to Aachen. Met some Aachen fans before the game and had a laugh....got hammered..got back to the hotel at 05:00 feeling slightly drunk. Up to Amsterdam on Sunday and spent the night in the red light district having a few quite drinks. Monday had a look arounf Amsterdam and went on a boat tour and then the drinking began resulting in going into a bar with 5 euros and walking out three hours late with 250 euros after rapeing the fruit machine.....happy days. Tommorow night appears it may be fairly interesting..updates will follow.
Scotty Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Greetings from Amsterdam! Main things I took from the Aachen match were: - McCarthy has a suberb first touch and has great technique. - It's very early days obviously but there were signs that McCarthy and Roberts were already linking well. McCarthy came deep a few times to link up play whereas Roberts lead the line and tried to hold the ball up. - Both strikers took their goals clinically - Roberts especially showed great strength - Bentley didn't do much in centre-midfield - we loked much better once Tugay came on. - There were a lot more than 20 Rovers fans there - Mokoena loks like Agathe from a distance! - Their left-winger was pretty good. In fact, Aachen on the whole were a decent team who kept possession well. It was a good work-out for Rovers and a good, deserved win. - Aachen fans were very friendly, slightly mad, and incredibly proud of their team. It's the first time they've been in the top league for 36 years and they intend to enjoy it. It's been a cracking trip so far - looking forward to Rotterdam now and ducking the knife attacks.

Scotty, those three points are extremely encouraging for the forthcoming campaign and have really raised my spirits. Aachen did well in the UEFA Cup last season (qualified from their Group stage) so it was a decent challenge for Rovers. Good luck and keep safe in Rottedam!
Philly Rover ® Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 - It's very early days obviously but there were signs that McCarthy and Roberts were already linking well. McCarthy came deep a few times to link up play whereas Roberts lead the line and tried to hold the ball up. This is the most interesting part, in my opinion. Without Bellamy (and with little creativity in midfield in Tugay's absence), I feared that our link up play would suffer. If McCarthy is the type of striker that can help in that department, it would help our attack immensely. Cheers for the report, Scotty. You and Jordan keep safe now.

I thought they just got promoted this season? maybe your thinking of AZ Alkmar
Manchester Blue Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 I think Philip's been in the cafe with Jordan & Scotty!!! Glad you're having fun and good to here the positives about the forward line. Enjoy the rest of the trip.
AxesFirstTouch Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 anyone no the reserve score against stalybridge Look at the official site ffs.
Manchester Blue Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Rovers won 3-1 with goals from Derbyshire, Woods & Garner apparently.
yellowsubmarine Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Rovers won 3-1 with goals from Derbyshire, Woods & Garner apparently. I thought its was Derbyshire with 2?
philipl Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 (edited) Eh? Are you sure? I thought they just got promoted this season? maybe your thinking of AZ Alkmar Allemania Aachen reached the final of the German Cup and so like Millwall, entered the UEFA Cup as a 2nd Division team. Unlike Millwall, they acquitted themselves well in Europe. As it happens, Aachen played AZ Alkmar in the last 32 of the UEFA Cup. All clear now? Edited August 9, 2006 by philipl
Manchester Blue Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 (edited) Bit clearer Phil but it wasn't last season it was the season before that Aachen were in it, hence the confusion on my part anyway. Edited August 9, 2006 by Manchester Blue
