Fife Rover Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 He also plays ###### football. Bet he'll sign a big man up front for Villa soon. Yes, another Henrik Larson!

LeChuck Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 I may be playing the devil's advocate here, but what is this thing that everyone seems to have about MO'N as a manager? Played under Clough and won a couple of European Cup finals and the league (which is nice) Did some good things with Wycombe Wanderers as manager, not bad, but hardly Bill Paisley. Got Leicester City promoted to the premiership, OK, fair enough, but hardly awe inspiring. Won a few titles with Celtic. In a two-horse race not too much of a challenge. I reckon that if he has managerial talent then he'll be able to do something with Villa, but I think he's still to prove himself at this level. Let's see how he goes, the cold & clammy hand of Deadly Doug Ellis could yet take it's toll. I've often wondered this myself. In fairness to O'Neill, I believe he also has a League Cup victory and a UEFA Cup final appearance to his name. Having said that, so does McClaren, and people don't seem overly happy with his appointment as England manager.
Flopsy Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 Flopsy, do you realise how close you came to becoming a Villa legend? Possibly but the "driving a Rolls Royce" should have given a clue on who would have come out best in a collision. Also it would ave been likely that the O'Neil deal wouldnt have gone through and I'd have been barred from entering Solihul or Sutton Coldfield ever again. Such a shame
philipl Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 What a surprise, Villa have enquired about Neil Lennon and Stilan Petrov.
herbergeehh Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 (edited) Always thought Lennon was a solid midfielder, getting on a bit now though perhaps? Will be interesting to see how O'Neill performs, he's got some work to do, and it won't be easy under Deadly Doug. Edited August 6, 2006 by herbergeehh
rover6 Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 I'm always wary about a manager getting lionised for winning the League Cup - and not because we won it with Graeme Souness - but because it is quite easy for an average team to get a soft run to the finals because the best teams usually play reserve teams. That said, O'Neill is one of the best British managers around imo. Do you reckon that he'll implement 3-5-2 at Villa (in which case they'll be in a minority of one)? Also, is there not some credibility in the claim that he plays 'ugly' football with a preponderence of giants at either end of the park. Why did Henri Camara, a decent Prem player, not cut it up North?
Paul Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 Just after the 7.ooam news on Five Live it was announced Randy Lerner has made a £62m bid for Villa. Interested parties now have 21 days to come up with formal counter bids. Stock Market opened at 7.00am today. Lerner Bids for Villa So that's the Birmingham franchise in place
philipl Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 Hughes had better not bank on signing anyone in the January transfer window as Villa will be splashing the dosh. Quite apart from the other Prem clubs having a rude awakening to this news, down in BIG CLUB the Gold, Sullivan Brady threesome will have gagged on their Coca Cola breakfast this morning. Not only are they permanently condemned to being the littlest club on their own patch but Lerner wants Villa and its land for the Super Casino the porn boys had dreams of building into their 50,000 seat complex in Sutton Colville. So there's a silver lining somewhere...
jim mk2 Posted August 14, 2006 Author Posted August 14, 2006 Did anyone have the foresight to invest in Villa shares four weeks ago ? The day O'Leary was sacked the share price stood at 375p; at the stockmarket's close today they were at a record high of 537p.
