Ozz Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 (edited) Is anyone still staying in Rotterdam or are most fans taking the advice to stay in Amsterdam? We're booked into a hotel in Rotterdam as I dont fancy the potential 2 hour wait and journey back to Amsterdam before getting to a coffee shop or bar. Having said that, I do fancy a bit of early hours Ashes watching and I'm not sure if there are any 24 hour sports bars in Rott. I'll need to make a decision on whether to switch to Amst by tonight. Any thoughts? We're on the ferry so looking forward to the cheesy disco (and casino?). It's going to be the best ever away trip, cant wait. I am staying in Rotterdam, despite Police advice but I am nearly 40 and my days of getting blotto by lunch time, drinking in the market square and launching white plastic chairs at the police, whilst singlehandedly taking on the water cannons and all the Feyenoord nutters are, by and large, behind me. Keep your head down, use some common sense and there will not be any probs. Stay in the Oude Haven as the cops are throwing extra security round there. Am on the disco boat too, to Hull and back we go! EDIT Is this the pre match preview thread, cos if it is my predicition is a tight game, both sides look evenly matched and a 1-1 draw ensuring qualification to the next round Edited November 21, 2006 by ozziejones
ihtd Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Less than 24 hours till i set off down to Bristol for my flight. Me and my friend should be in Amsterdam for about 6pm GMT/7pm GMT+1 so wheres the party at the night before the game, i am not planning on getting drunk while im there, not if its true what i've heard people saying about the Feyenoord fans looking for some trouble. Think i'll try and stay out of the way of that i think.
LDRover Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 no worries, will get the last train from manchester wednesday evening. Will just be a couple of hours wait before check in. We're flying from Brum Weds afternoon so can drop you off then if you can kill a few hours down there!!
Ricky Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Did you find many places staying open past 01.00 or did you not last that long? You know me far too well. To be fair our big night out was a Tuesday which was obviously fairly quiet, we did manage to head down to the square where the pubs opened late but were far too hammered and had to get a cab back to the hotel (via macdonalds) about 30 minutes later. Go to the black tiger bar in the red light district, in the downstairs bar you should see a photo of yours truly looking rather worse for wear. I think i'd just proposed to the bar maid..
jimmy_the_rock Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 What flags are people taking? I'm thinking of making one with; TUGAY=GOD on it. good call mate - the guy is a genius i'm taking a blow up kangaroo in homage to 'burt' emerton where is everybody meeting up? Liedesplien square is a good option - lots of bars and ehem! coffeeshops, for lovers of coffee!
murray92 Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Might seem like a daft question, but anyone know if there is a fans game organised for this trip???
modes98 Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 We're flying from Brum Weds afternoon so can drop you off then if you can kill a few hours down there!! 15:20 from brum? if so thats the one i'm on. where is everybody meeting up? Liedesplien square is a good option - lots of bars and ehem! coffeeshops, for lovers of coffee! Liedesplien is a good place to start at least, take a few numbers and talk to people out there. I would just look for the swarm of blue & white.
mattym Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Anyone flying out on the 7:00 flight from Leeds on Thursday ?? Im meeting my mate in Amsterdam who is flying from Gatwick so it would be nice to speak to someone instead of being a billy no mates !!!
Daremz Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Mates, mates, don't worry. Ofcourse, the Feyenoord-fans have some scum amongst them, but every firm does have. Few years back (last year?) they've been warned by the UEFA after the firework-incident vs. Lissabon, they're watched sharply, believe me. Dutch fans can only get tickets if they have a club-card, and the latest expectation is that there will be around 25.000/30.000 people. Last home match, vs. Sofia, the Feyenoord-fans were absolutely splendid. They sung throughout the whole match (which was extremely dissapointing, 0-0) and just were fantastic. There are TIFO (banners, flags, fireworks) planned for this thursday, so it will be a very good atmosphere. Besides that, you guys go into the stadium using the railway-station, which will be protected by loads of police, so don't worry. After the match, just calmly leave Rotterdam and nothing will happen. If you don't search, you won't find trouble. 2500 english, 25000 dutch - why can't that be the guarantee for a fantastic night? Respect from both sides (of fans), that's what it is about. And I don't think Rotterdam will see this as a Holland vs. England clash, they know Blackburn don't have a hooligan reputation at all. About the match...well, Feyenoord are getting back on track and my scouting has learned me that especially Hofs (pass and shooting style of player), Greene (pacey and good defender) and Huysegems (who's a very dangerous winger, if he's in a good form...which isn't always the case!) are good players. They've got a decent goalie in Timmer, there defence lacks a bit of quality, so McCarthy and Nonda(?) will have chances, for sure. Their midfield is their strongest part, but if De Guzman is injured, that's a good thing for Rovers. He's another very, very talented player, who is able to turn a match around with his passing and dribbling. Especially at home Feyenoord are very strong and play like Rovers (at home) - with loads of passion and tackles flying all over. Will be an exciting encouter, I'm not sure about the result but 2-2 is fair. To all, have pleasure, behave, and enjoy the fantastic atmosphere at one of worlds greatest football-temples!

Daremz Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 they seemed up for it last night when i was invited into a large group convo of them, by a rovers fan that had been harrassed by them they were clearly saying do not walk around the centre or your dead, not to worry anyone they only seemed like young kids  Well, ofcourse it's not wise to walk around the town-centre in your Rovers-kit, but that's why I said If you don't look for trouble, you'll be fine In and near the beautiful Kuip, you're safe.
Glenn Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 What flags are people taking? I'm thinking of making one with; TUGAY=GOD on it. Both brfcs.com flags will be in attendance as always. Might seem like a daft question, but anyone know if there is a fans game organised for this trip??? Nope. Well, I've not help organised one this time. As much enjoyed the games in Turkey and Salzburg, this time I want to sit be and relax instead (and where better to relax ). 24hrs to go and I'll be leaving work and heading for Leeds Bradford Airport.
AggyBlue Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 this time I want to sit be and relax instead (and where better to relax ). Don't get too 'relaxed' or you won't remember the match
Roaming Rover Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Am on the disco boat too, to Hull and back we go! And remember Ozzie, 'If you don;t know the way, just ask' as Del boy would say I'm so depressed I won't be there, most of my mates are going and all the pre match talk on here is really making me jealous, ah well I'd much rather be at work Thursday and Friday anyhow Enjoy and make Rovers proud
Moppy Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Well, ofcourse it's not wise to walk around the town-centre in your Rovers-kit, but that's why I said Its sad that this is the case, wasnt in Salzbury. It shouldnt be a problem. Having said that given a bit of knowledge about the club and its Firm not doing so is common sense as it will help avoid trouble.
LDRover Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 15:20 from brum? if so thats the one i'm on. One and the same modes. See you there.
modes98 Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Will do LD, I'll be the one in the rovers top....... Probably in the bar and with a burger king. So healthy!
bigfilbar8 Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Is anyone flying out of Newcastle early Thursday?
garnersfags Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Any plans for getting together in Rotterdam after the game? it may be difficult if it isnt safe enough to wear shirts. Will the free buses be going back to the 'safe' area?
pksrover Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 We're flying from Brum Weds afternoon so can drop you off then if you can kill a few hours down there!! cheers for the offer, but I think I will catch the last train!
McClarky Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Can I just say that I am intending to get extremely drunk and behave in a boreish and oaflike manner throughout my trip to Holland. If anyone would like to join me I will be in Amsterdam on Wednesday and Rotterdam on Thursday. Come on you blues!
Billinge End Blue Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Surely 'boorish' although you can be a little dull at times...thought you had an early start tomorrow!? Get the Amstel on ice and sithee tomorrow
Martin Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Can't sleep. So naturally I find myself browsing the MB. I guess this is the first point of call for many of us who can't sleep, anyway I digress. Tomorrow I set off for Amsterdam on then onto Rotterdam. I am excited, Jesus I sound like a ten year old. What makes it so wonderful is there is no pressure on us to win. Yes, I know we need to win the group blah blah and the money is big(ger) in the knock-out phase, but I bet 99% of people on here would take Barcelona (or big euro. side) in the next round. However, I fully expect us to win. Tugay will run the show, as ever the first twenty minutes will be crucial, but past that there is only one winner. I have travelled to the Celtic and Salzburg away games before. Both on coach and my god, the Salzburg coach journey was perhaps the most horrific way of travelling to a football game. So naturally it's a relief to fly to this one. I don't know why anybody would ever go on a coach that far - it was horrid. Anyway I will fly tomorrow at six - I can't wait to see you all there. I can't express to you how excited and honoured I feel to be one of 2,500+ attending the game. It is my opinion we are the luckiest supporters in the land. We have a real team, with real supporters and wherever we are it's a real adventure.
