Alan75 Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 A spectacular strike by Rostyn Griffiths just before half time was enough to secure all 3 points for the Rovers reserves tonight against Everton reserves. Whilst Derbyshire and De Vito had been a constant threat to the Everton defence all night, it was Griffiths who broke the dead lock just before half time. Collecting the ball about 20 yards out, on the right hand side, Griffiths in one movement turned and volley a thunderous shot into the top left hand corner of the Everton net. With the defence marshalled by the experienced Henchoz and Matteo, Enckelman in the Rovers goal was rarely threatened all night, whilst the solid Taylor broke down the left to link up with Olsson at every available opportunity. Apart from the central defenders this was a young and inexperienced Rovers side, yet they were seldom troubled by Everton, serving up a polished and professional display of attacking football, that deserved more than one single goal. Rovers res 1 Everton res 0 Attendance 320.
