[Archived] Benni Mccarthy - Gone

Which makes Roberts' % even better as he missed his one penalty of the season.

Exactly ...... -_-

Nothing pedantic about it, your point is completely irrelevant to the stats Tris posted when you take the 5 goals thing into account.

OK - Le Chuck ....you win .

Now go and send a congratulatory telegram to Mr Owen for having the most impressive goal scoring statistics for last season .

....and then go and give Torres a bollocking for not being up to the same level as McCarthy -_-

“The problem is because Manchester City are paying any money for people, teams like us and Sunderland go for good players and clubs put the price up there because they think everyone is like Manchester City. "

Interesting....hinting at a certain Spurs or Bordeaux striker there perhaps?

Benni in LET. Never thought I'd say this, but sounds down to earth.

It does sound down to earth, it's an honest assesment of last season and what we are looking to do this year, and also indicates that he's perhaps now more willing to accept that he will be on the bench for a good 3rd or more of the season. I'm not always sure that he's been willing to accept it in the past, hopefully now if he understands and accepts his role a bit more we can see the best of him again.

Also a nice way of admitting Roberts can't finish and he can't run haha.

Benni was on a pre recorded interview on Radio Lancs this morning.

He says that he wants to get fit enough to manage a full 90 minutes in games this coming season; says he was not fit enough to manage more than 80 last season.

So, surprise surprise our Benni was not fit last season!!!! He is the only player that I have ever seen who got less fit the more games he played. He is one big useless lump of dog dirt.

Ditch the MacDonalds Benni Boy.

We haven't even replaced Roque and Derbyshire, and people want to let McCarthy leave too? I'm sure he'll be sharper this season, and you can't question his class. Let's keep him for now.

McCarthy was influencial at times last season, not for his work rate, but for the amount of goals he scored. When he scored 24 goals in the 2006-07 season, McCarthy was still not hardworking as he is simply not that type of player, but there is still no question of his class and quality. Him and Roberts formed a decent partnership at times last season (especially at Ewood around Christmas time) so to let McCarthy leave would be ridiculus.

Also, on Sky Sports News a few weeks ago, they were showing which strikers in the Premier League had the best conversion rates last season. Owen was first with a 0.29 conversion rate with McCarthy second with 0.28.

McCarthy can't last ninety minutes but he grabs goals and that is what Rovers need.

Heck we should've ditched Tugay a couple of seasons ago as well eh?:huh:

Tugay had more talent in his hairdo than David Dunn has ever had.

As for Benni, keep him, as long as he doesn't mind not starting every game. World Cup year, he may want to go for first team football. If so, fine.

What an incredibly stupid comment.

Not all players have the same attributes. He is 30, things like stamina are going to be an issue, especially if he's had problems with it before. It's not a lack of effort, nor is he lazy, but you can't expect everyone to be able to keep up with the top dogs in the premiership. And as we see he is doing his best and is open about his problem.

Talk about delusion .

30 is no age these days . McCarthy can't keep up with the "top dogs" because he doesn't have their application and dedication to his profession . To a large degree he has wasted his talent .

Thankfully he has competition this season . Otherwise , if he had remained first choice striker we'd be fighting it out with the Dingles at the bottom of the league .

For the record I'm still worried about our midfield supplying whoever our forwards are .....

Agreed. McCarthy is the second most technically gifted player I have seen play for Rovers (just behind Tugay, just ahead of Bentley). His touch is exceptional.

However he has also been extremely lazy over the last two seasons.

His saving grace is that Di Santo or Kalanic may be able to bring more out of him than Cruz, Derbyshire or Roberts did. They are two different sorts of player, and Kalanic in particular has pace that Benni could use to make himself the space he needs.

It will be interesting to see how he works with the new guys. If he doesn't get sold first that is!

One thing you will find with young players, they have the legs, enthusiasm and vibrancy to get that little extra, I feel Benni is very much a box player and if the ballis around those areas, he will score you goals, most of his footbll has been played on the continent, they play with pace only in the last 3rd of the park,

its a totally different game and that is why you find many players come from abroad and cant hack this league!!

what a load of sh1te - first choice striker despite starting only half of the games?? people with this familiar attitude see what they wanna see and ignore the facts:

18 starts, 10 as sub, 10 goals (in the league)

better than 1 in 3 despite not starting over a third of the games, what more do you want from a striker??!

the reason he hasn't equalled his first season total is simply because he hasn't been given enough games in the last two season. look at the facts man. benni haters haven't a friggin leg to stand on.

Most on here just want Benni to play as we all know he can, season one.

Benni's capable of more than he's shown over the last couple of years, much more. He should be going down as one of the greatest african players, he won't now.

Regardless of his goal stats (how many of those were pens?) his application has to be called into question.

We can't be playing some fat git who isn't capable of lasting 90 minutes. The guy has to knuckle down again. I don't see any clubs sniffing around him these days.

The theory that he can't get his stamina back cos he's 30 is hysterical.

He scores goals, thats his job.

Dunn also can last no more than 70 minutes. Should we ditch him too?

25-30k per week for 9-10 games a year, undoubtedly a resounding YES.

40-45k per week for benni to warm the bench, cheerio.

20 1st team players there, maybe 2 better quality additions for a squad with a decent injury record that should be plenty to get us through a season. Even the chelsea manager wants a 23 man tops 1st team, so i don't see why we should need to carry extra dead weight like ellington as a financially smaller team.

In a dream world we could have the above as a good starting platform and ditch dunn, reid, benni and peds saving i'd guess 115-120k per week that could tempt some reliable quality to come here.

Looking at the above it starts to smell more like rubbish the whole ellington thing, we just can't afford his wages regardless of whether he is free.

Have to say regardless of his application/work rate Benni does the main job of a striker and sticks the ball in the back of the net. (His fitness and thus his professionalism is a different matter.) He's never going to do the running around job, even when he was on fire for us in his first season. But if he can get himself fit and sharp we have a real predator and finisher in our team.

To me on ability he's easily our second best striker by a mile, possibly even our first. In form any team outside of the top 4 would want him in their team. He has the quality to create something out of nothing, against any opposition, including top quality ones, which is needed in the premier league. Sure it's dangerous to rely solely on this, especially with his attitude, but with our other striking options we wouldn't be.

For what it's worth, with Sam at the helm, competition for places and it being a world cup year - in South Africa no less - I can see Benni having a stormer of a season. All the motivators seem to be in place. And when the guy is on form he's dangerous to play against and will get you goals.
