Waggy - I know them from times gone by - I will have to let them know to put some more staff on - not sure they will be expecting a weds morning / lunchtime rush like they will experience this weds.

Better not send them your CV - i'll just have a quick word B)

Will have a badge off you btw if you can get them through customs.

Well, my plans for the trip are going from bad to worse - total chaos.

Only one of my mates could make this trip (all the rest gave some excuse about being skint, saving for weddings etc...) so we were all booked and set for a return to Germany following our World Cup road trip.

However, I got a call late last week from the mate I had booked with saying that his boss has cancelled all company holiday for that week and he could no longer make it.

To make matters worse, my cousin (who lives in Germany and who's house I was due to be staying in on Tuesday night) has just informed me that he has to go to Munich with work next week.

If you see a loner in a pub in Cologne, say hello, it'll probably be me!

Would it not be better to avoid the Irish pubs? These places are just there to exploit thick British people who can only survive abroad if they get Carling and Fosters. The Corkonnian in Cologne will meet this demand but it is the most expensive and the worst beer in Cologne. Cologne is full of great pubs which sell the fantastic local brew at reasonable prices so come on Rovers fans, don't spend the whole trip in Irish bars.

McClarky - you are spot on about the corkonian. Very poor indeed hence the suggestion for Jamesons.

Nice starting place before moving on and sampling some kolsch.

We went in there during the world cup. Theres not much nice to be said about it. The rest of the pubs in that area and towards the river are fine though, and probably where i'll end up drinking. ?
