rover_groo Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I've just told my GF that i'll be away, shes not happy I don't have the balls to do that. Missed Val's last year due to work and can't do it 2 years in a row or i would be shot! I'm sorting a trip for members in our branch and know of other airlines as my work's company have a site between Cologne (Koln) and Dusseldorf and travel there a few times each year. The other flight alternatives: Air Berlin German Wings
Scotty Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I've relieved Jordan of his hotel booking duties and booked us into the CityHotel, Norbertstrasse 20 in Cologne. It says it's about 500 metres away from the Cathedral and main station. Booked a triple room for 3 nights for 333 Euros (about £80 each for 3 nights).
Lee Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 It'll be early next week before we have full confirmation regarding the date/time of the first leg match in Leverkusen.
bob fleming Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 It'll be early next week before we have full confirmation regarding the date/time of the first leg match in Leverkusen. Lee - is there any possibility that the dates could be switched? i.e. Home first?
Lee Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I can same with almost (please note that word) certainty that the dates will NOT be switched. We are close to confirming everything but you just know that if we put out something that isn't 100% confirmed and there's an issue then it puts the club in a bad position.
Blackpool_Rover Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Get your phrase book ready, you'll be in the Bayer end. If thats the case then il be disapointed. If the tickets get sold to 1100 season ticket holders fair enough but ive been home and away to every game bar about 5 for the last 3 seasons and seen them away from england before. Maybe bayer wont sell out and will give us more.
bob fleming Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Cheers Lee - that's what I thought. Group winners have the added bonus of having the second leg at home.
Jordan Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I've relieved Jordan of his hotel booking duties and booked us into the CityHotel, Norbertstrasse 20 in Cologne. It says it's about 500 metres away from the Cathedral and main station. Booked a triple room for 3 nights for 333 Euros (about £80 each for 3 nights). Receivced confirmation that the 'rip off' hotel has been cancelled. Looking forward to it now. really enjoyed my last trip to Cologne even though it was for only one night but managed to drink between 22:00 and 08:30 the following morning so hopefully it will be more of the same. SD4E Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 flights booked, 4 of us going, now to start the hotel search... see you all out there boys!
Jordan Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Get your phrase book ready, you'll be in the Bayer end. I was thinking about tickets for this one. I would have thought that if you have not been to any of the away trips so far you have absolutly no hope in getting a ticket. Probably about 300 fans have done all the trips Salzburg, Krakow and Salzburg and the majority of them would want to go to this one. So if the prediction of 1,100 tickets is corrent then that leaves 800. I would say a further 200/300 will have been to two out of the three trips, most likely Krakow/Salzburg and Feyenoord. That takes this down to 500 of which I would say a lot more than that only went to Feyenoord, roughly 1000.
Wolverine Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 My first child is due late January, so I doubt I will get the chance to go on a jolly so soon after... Here's hoping for a bloody good European runs...
Jordan Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Just a word of warning for those who have not booked flights yet. Should the game be on the Wednesday and Rovers progress in the FA Cup we may be playing on Saturday 17th February.
Darth Paul Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I read recently that fans attending Bayer Leverkusen home games can use all public transport on match days (ie trains and buses) within the area for free, upon presenting a match ticket. If this is true then it is a very good idea and could be something that Rovers could put to the local council(s). It could be particularly helpful in bringing in the fans from the more peripheral areas, particularly where the trains run. I intend to look into this further and if it is true I will probably mention it in my next Rovers Blog for the LT (Shameless self advertising!) Anyway, great tie, against a decent side but one against which we have a reasonable chance of progression!
1864roverite Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 The Leyland Branch are in the position of having to wait for the date of the match being confirmed. Hope its gonna be the Thursday. For those members fancying another meet up a la sports bar in Amsterdam, you never know we may just find another GABRIELLE

Paul Mellelieu Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 This may be my first Euro outing. Koln is a great city, as indeed is D-Dorf, but the former is the best place to stay even if the local beer in D-dorf is far better than that of its bigger brother. Getting a room in Koln can be difficult if there are the regular trade fairs taking place. A good frined of mine makes regular trips to both cities: he's a translator and often works for both British and German teams on foreign trips. I'm hoping he gets this gig and uses his contacts with the Bayer club to get a couple of freebies.

Daremz Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Will be a hell of a match, especially the away match is vital, if we can manage a draw there, we're in a very good position. Any Dutchies travelling?
Ricky Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 I've got a flight for £50 but unfortunately it means that I get there late on Monday and come back on Friday. They don't fly on Tuesdays. I'm thinking it might be worth heading over on Monday and dossing in a hostel for the first night before checking into a hotel.

FourLaneBlue Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 This shows the value of Neill's goal on Wednesday. Nancy have drawn Shaktar Donetsk...the Ukraine is a long way.

Both are good in their own way but don't bother asking for either in the wrong city, they won't serve it. Pity the fixture is not a couple of weeks earlier when the Karnival is on - serious drinking across the Rhineland (with tie-cutting and village parades)! Enjoy the Leverkusen trip anyway, Insellaffen!
