and what is so difficult in understanding that not everyone is able to stand throughout a match if at all..... let alone having to try to find seats where they can sit without their view being obstructed

Having started this thread I was about to post that I encountered no similar problems at all at the JJB the other day.

It might be purely coincidental, might have been my imagination, or my eyesight might have been somewhat impaired from the night before :P but I got the impression that the travelling following was generally of an older age range than has often been the case when I've been away over the past few seasons.

I was also about to post that I wouldn't really consider the minor sort of stuff mentioned by Paul as even worthy of comment.

Then David Brent decides to post and gets my blood boiling again. Why the ferk should anyone else have to move because he's ignorant and inconsiderate enough to stand up for 90 minutes?.

YOU'RE THE ONE IN THE WRONG!!

End of.

I also think if people consider 'moronic' behaviour to be scooby and his bunch of harmless little cretins standing at wigan away they need to get out more. Perhaps go to away games with Man utd, celtic, burnley, leeds or for that matter many other football clubs in England and abroad. They might just realise the rovers away support is not as moronic as they think!

I've been to all of those, except Europe, and understand exactly what you are saying. For the third time, and I don't know how to make this much clearer, I was commenting on the inconsistency shown by the stewards I was therefore defending the Rovers support not complaining about anyone's behaviour. Yes the seat banger irritated me as he was banging the bloody thing in my ear, but that's waht you get in a football crowd and I didn't complain to him. The remarks on this thread since I posted tend to indicate people read what they expect to read and not what was actually posted.

It seemed to me unjust that some lads were thrown out for standing while Scooby and his mate stood, in front of a steward, for 90 mniutes. If I had been chucked out under those circumstances I would be very upset.

I was also about to post that I wouldn't really consider the minor sort of stuff mentioned by Paul as even worthy of comment.

Rev, please see above. Surely everyone would benefit from consistency?

Therein supports the reason to bring back standing areas at games roversmum - then forget the pun - everybody knows where they stand (sit) :P

Mr Brent - don't use the formality that just because you want/can stand that everybody else has to conform - I am a stander at games but there is common sense and respect and manners that come into play. I think your replies are genuine and not supposed to be antagonistic, and I am with you on the issue which does become very frustrating as people seem to label everybody that stands as 'moronic', however try to see it from both sides of the fence.

Pauls comments seem to have been taken out of context but yet again on here it evolves into a discussion of sit up stand down as I like to call it.

just reading about being arrested for taking beer to your seat. When i was in phoenix and denver they l;et you take beer to your seats ,they even bring beer to your seats and most folk stand for the game as well.

When NZ played GB at Rugby league you could drink in your seats at Ewood, UEFA cup comes to town and you can't get a beer at all..........Pathetic in this day and age that a bunch of foreign chocolate eating cuckoo clock makers can dictate to such a level throughout Europe

Paul is perfectly correct in what he says. Inconsistency of the stewards is not acceptable or right but there is very little, it seems, we can do about it.

A point I made some time ago - supporters are paying customersand in my view are entitled to be treated with some respect and common sense and certainly not dragged out of the stadium for some slight transgression; it's not difficult surely.

Ah TB ...but is that entirely correct or is it just peoples perception?:huh:

There seems to be as much confirmation of this as there is in the football rules for playing the game

Regarding standing up, I completely agree that folk stood up, obstructing other peoples views should be dealt with accordingly. If it ever happens to me at away games, I politely tell them to sit down and if they continue I become more forceful or get a steward (depending on their level of intelligence).

However, I am a season ticket holder in the Blackburn End and sit on the 2nd to back row. The full row behinds me stands up and so do I, along with the rest of my mates. At the recent game against Middlesbrough, a steward came up demanding we all sat down. I wouldnt mind this but 4,000 Boro fans at the other side of the ground were all stood, and I didnt see ONE steward marching up the steps telling them the same. Its double standards if you ask me......

About 2 years ago, I attended a meeting at BRFC with John Newsham and someone from the FA about standing up at games. This meeting was fuelled by a letter I received threatening for my season ticket to be taken off me, as well as the people around me if I wasnt prepared to stay in my seat. The excuse I was given is that it was unsafe to stand in a seated area and that the gradient of the stand meant it was against fire and safety regulations. They even gave me the % of the gradient and showed a diagram of the stand when it was built!

They assured me that standing up at games would be clamped down for ALL ends of the stadium and not just for home fans. Whats happened? To me, nothing has changed. Away fans coming to Ewood have the luxury of their own pub, as many seats as they like and have the choice whether to stand up or sit down depending on their preference without a stewards interference. Yet, a handful of passionate Rovers fans are victimised.

We had a discussion regarding this the other day. In Salzburg the home fans were drinking but we couldn't, now it could have been alcohol free but I doubt it. In Feyenoord you could drink, it was apparently lower alcohol but still available. I've been informed that it is only English clubs that are affected by this Uefa rule and that other clubs have no issues and server alcohol freely. Does anyway know if this is correct?

Must be basing their decisions on the lessons of history Gav. Something which you might like to consider.

The 'beer' served to home fans at Salzburg (I was in a home area I suppose) was Alcohol Frei.

I've been going on Ewood for over 40 years and can't remember any major incidents caused by drunken Rovers fans.

What history have Rovers fans got?

Rovers fans have had a history of violence in the past. My first recall of anything was in the early sixties at Norwich. That day saw a lot of damage to properties in Norwich. It died out pretty quickly after that, but came to the forefront again in the seventies. Most away games in those days saw rowdy behaviour from most fans - not just rovers.

One particular instance stands out. Carlisle away when a Carlisle supporter died as a result of a rovers fan throwing a lump of concrete over a wall. Now that particular instance doesn't reflect on any other fan apart from the individual concerned, but there was a lot of problems from rovers fans around that time.

Fair enough, I assumed because of the numbers drinking it it must have been the real deal. They did the Alcohol Frei stuff at the pre season in Germany a few years back but no-one drank it aprt from Ste B ;-)

As for Feyenoord I know a lot of people were told it was 2% I did assume it would be alcohole free.

The story about it only being English clubs came about as I was told that Nancy boys complained about the alcohol ban so they were to be served it but only to them. Probably rubbish but it all seemed to make sense.

I still cannot understand the point of missing the start of the first half, the end of the first half and the start of the second half just try to cram another pint or two of sheite , hugely overpriced beer from a plastic cup down ones neck when the sheite, hugely overpriced match is being played on the pitch.

Let's chuck the Germans out of all competitions because of those bloody Nazis should we.......lessons from history and all that.

The racist chanting and other such despicable incidents in the 70's and 80's didn't stop you going to ewood, but everyone’s complaining about a few lads standing up and signing relatively harmless songs compared to days gone bye :o

As someone's already mentioned, far to much zero tolerance these days by people who should know things could be allot worse, and have been.

Over to you Gav :D

We're boosting the transfer kitty, that's how I see it.

Is your seat about 150ish? I saw this happen as I'm on the back row and always stand up (142), but no steward came over to me
