Grabbi Graeme Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 I grew up with the 80's action shows Airwolf, Streethawk, Knightrider, Fall Guy also British Shows The Professionals and Dempsey and Makepeace. I always liked the lesser known Stephen J Cannell shows like Simon and Simon, Riptide and who can forget this. Hunter
American Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Big Simon and Simon fan. Wednesday nights on CBS back in the 80s, Magnum PI at 9 and S&S at 10. Not sure it the site works outside of the US, but try Hulu.com. They have a bunch of old and new TV shows available - free and legal.
Grabbi Graeme Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 While we are remembering old tv shows does anyone remember this from the 70's, it was like an Austrialian version of Baywatch. Chopper Squad I'm too young to remember the original with Roger Moore but I remember the remake. Return Of The Saint
Biddy Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Oh dear lord what have they done:- Watched that trailer last night and thought it was the funniest thing ever. That is just clips from the pilot but I think I've read somewhere that is being picked up for a series but the producer is walking away from it. Needs a vast over haul if you ask me. And they've set it in 1972 not 1973 for some strange reason. Was Life on Mars even out then?
Ozz Posted May 15, 2008 Author Posted May 15, 2008 Think Life On Mars was originally on Hunky Dory, before going out as a single. Early 70s I think, '71 Nice to see Chief O'Brien still in employment!
American Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 I'll reserve judgment. I thought the re-make of the Office was going to be crap...
tcj_jones Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Oh dear lord what have they done:- People shouldn't be allowed to do things like this. My favourite ever television programme is going to be butchered.
Billy Castell Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 I've seen it with no sound (in a 'spoons pub for the internet), and it looks poo. The 'Sam Tyler' actor looks like some 3rd rate actor trying to do a John Simm and failing, and I just can't see 'that Irish guy from Star Trek' matching Phil Glenister. And I bet the script won't be half as good either.
tcj_jones Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 It's American made. That says it all. How about instead of trying to exploit an already successful programme and milking it for all it's worth, they come up with something original?

How about instead of trying to exploit an already successful programme and milking it for all it's worth, they come up with something original? omg...They dont make original stuff over there do they>its another brfcs side splitting moment.
Grabbi Graeme Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Watched the first episode of series 5 of NCIS tonight, a good start to the new series.
tcj_jones Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Removed - no personal attacks Of course America has original programming, brilliant original programming. Then again, there is a tendency to poorly remake quality shows, to sensationalize and for them to be 'dumbed down'. In any case, my post was directed specifically at Life On Mars - why remake such a quality programme and risk hugely disapointing its fan base? I don't like it when people try to milk a successful show and to exploit its popularity. Life on Mars has been one of my favourite ever television series.
Neil Weaver Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Of course America has original programming, brilliant original programming. Against my better judgment, have to agree with this I'm afraid (lately anyway). Not having access to Murdoch's money making channels, only saw the final series of the Sopranos recently - excellent. Drifted into watching Damages and that became must see TV shortly afterwards. Dexter fell under much the same heading. Just a pity with the final two mentioned they fell into the trap of wanting another series rather than finishing with a believable and decent ending. Still, I don't suppose that's purely a Yank thing.
Beta Ray Bill Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 About as side splittingly funny as the majority of your brainless, moronic, neanderthalian posts. Got to grips with the caps lock key though, so well done on that. Of course America has original programming, brilliant original programming. I think you're missing the point here. LoM (US) is intended not for fans of the original series - and certainly not the UK market - but for people who aren't even aware of the original series. If fans of the original like the remake, all well and good, but the TV Execs will be trying to capture a whole new audience and one they will have a better idea of what appeals to them rather than a British import series. The last British made series to be on prime time TV network in America to get a big following? The Avengers in the 1960s. The last US series to do the reverse? Have a scan through this weeks Radio Times and count them up.
Ozz Posted May 19, 2008 Author Posted May 19, 2008 Six feet under , along with most of its HBO stablemates, but esp Six feet under, are excellent, Neh, brilliant TV.
Rovermatt Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 HBO produces some absolutely fantastic TV: The Sopranos Entourage Deadwood Curb Your Enthusiasm The Wire Six Feet Under All are absolute quality.
Flopsy Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 The new Simpsons on Sky on Sunday was excellent, even if it was so blatently contradicting loads of previous episodes.
FourLaneBlue Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 The last British made series to be on prime time TV network in America to get a big following? The Avengers in the 1960s. The last US series to do the reverse? Have a scan through this weeks Radio Times and count them up. That´s not comparing apples and oranges though...when was the last time a British series was actually given a prime time spot? The US networks don´t believe Americans can be bothered with anything other than US-made TV nor do they think many are patient enough to understand non-American accents. Hence if they see a popular British series they just remake rather than giving it a chance on US prime time TV...some American programs based on British TV shows. I think some TV shows like Doctor Who or Life on Mars would do well in a primetime spot on US TV but the networks won´t rish putting a foreign-made series on at that time and would prefer to remake it as a US show.
Cocker Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Oh dear I watched the hour long special of 'The Csec Fabregas Show" and it should have really been called 'We Are All Here To Kiss Fabregases Backside' On the clips I had seen I thought it was going to be like a sketch show taking the mic out of him and his footballing mates. Also the odd relaxed interview too. What we actually got was one of the most boring programmes ever where pretty much the lot of it was spent saying how great he was and he just stood there grinning. You know when a footballer gives a 5 minute interview and its the same bog standard replies over and over - well stretch that 5 mins to about 20 minutes and you get the idea. Andy 'I'm more wooden than Pinocchio' Goldstein was at his normal unfunny best too. If anyone still has this on sky plus delete it now and save yourself loosing an hour of your life.
Rovermatt Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Andy 'I'm more wooden than Pinocchio' Goldstein was at his normal unfunny best too. And he's a (cockney) United fan - the primary reason why I've stopped watching Soccer AM.
Nelsta Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Last night i watched a very strange programme on channel 4, At first i thought it was a comedy but it turned out it was anything but. It was about 2 women that had fallen in love with inanimate objects. One women had married the Eiffel Tower and visited it once a year to dry hump it. She also had strong feelings for the Berlin Wall and also wasnt appose to sleeping with her Samuri Sword. The other women was having a full blown relationship with the Organ at the Church in wich she worked. The Pastor then got rid of the Organ(wich she called jo) and despite this breaking her Heart she started having a relationship with a Rail. Strange to watch and utterly wierd.
