Billy Castell Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Thanks guys, I've actually got an idea for my dad's birthday present. He loved Deadwood. Anyway, I watched a programme about someone who was allowed to look into Stanley Kubrick's archive in his home. It was interesting to see just how obsessive about detail he was. In fact, he spect 2 years in pre-production researching an idea about a film about the Haulocaust called Wartime Lies, and had countless boxes of pictures, documents, books etc. only to abandon the project. He found the subject too depressing and difficult, and Steven Spielberg managed to start, shoot and finish Schindler's List in those two years. And that film was rather popular.

rebelmswar Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 If any of you get the chance watch "When we Left Earth: The NASA Missions" Never been so compelled by so much information in a long time. Some of the new footage was great too!

Nelsta Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Watched the 40 best disaster movies of all time. Die Hard was number 1...but the one that really confused me was Predetor was number 9..WTF?????? I thought it was an action movie?
Flopsy Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 there were lots of films on that one last night that were no where near disaster movies. Still, it was amusing and I hadnt heard some of the stuff about Steve McQueen and Rob Newman's scripts. I can just about understand Die Hard, but Con Air?

Yeah and you have to wonder why if they included predetor and con air, Where was Starhip Troopers/Aliens/dawn of the dead ect..ect..

I thought it was an action movie? Which production company made the program? That may answer the Whiskey Tango Foxtrots. The only way I can rationalise the choices of "Predator" is the thermo nuclear explosion at the end and "Con Air" just because it was so crap it could be labeled a disaster. I saw ConAir - it was a disaster! Like he said.
Flopsy Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Con Air was perfect popcorn holywood blcokbuster silly action movie, and to that end it was fine. To make it out to be something else is like saying Pulp Fiction was about the Genocide in Rwanda
Paul Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Watched the F word for 30-40 minutes last night. Not quite sure what the point of this programme is - other than how to ruin a nice piece of sole? Turned over to watch the end of Zoolander - now that is a weird film! Presume seeing the first 40-50 minutes would have helped?
Rovermatt Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Zoolander is bonkers but hilarious. 'Obey my dog!'
adopted scouser Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 And several times today, Britain's Got Talent finallists 'Escala' advertising the new season on Sky. Amazing Found it
Nelsta Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Watched that To catch a predetor, On FX last night, was scary to watch adult men arranging to meet a 13 year old girl for sex.And some of the conversations these men had knowing they was talking to a 13 year old was nothing short of disgusting.

I have only seen the advert for it with the guy talking to the girl on the beach, when she asked him what he wanted to do then he said what he would do to her was bad enough, judging by your comments Nesta I guess it gets worse when you watch the actual show. Although it is a good thing that something is being done about these people.
rebelmswar Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Although it is a good thing that something is being done about these people. Cheese grater and balls spring to mind, or branded in the forehead so the rest of the inmates know who is open for business. The show disgusts me, what shocks me is the amount of doctors, military and ministers (not so shocking) that get caught by this.

Funniest show in existence (aside from the serious subject matter of course). 'Why don't you take seat?' Did you ever see the South Park episode with Chris Matthews? A string of guys with bunches of flowers and chocolates turn up to a television studio expecting to meet a child only to walk in on a live Dateline: NBC. 'Oh my God Chris Matthews!' *Shoots himself in head* And so it continues... Apparently this is based on fact since some lawyer in Texas (I think) blew himself away at home having been rumbled by Matthews and his merry band.
Billy Castell Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 I'm sure I've heard about this on Charlie Brooker's show, but I'm too lazy to search Youtube.
Cocker Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I think its possible I have just found the worst programme ever. Its on Channel 4 right now and its called the Kevin Bishop Show. I cant tell if he is ment to be doing impersonations because they are all really bad. Its really painful to watch.
Billy Castell Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 I saw the ad for it and thought 'that looks as funny as finding out you have syphilis'. As good as Catherine Tate in other words. Visiting my parents at the moment, so I had to watch Eastenders for the first time in years. There is even more 1 dimensional nastiness than before. The show has become a bitter parody of itself and the stories are rotten rehashes warmed in the microwave. Any interesting story such as that one about domestic abuse a while ago would have been smothered by the latest hard man act or evil bitch queen swinging their tired tricks. I wish Charlie Brooker was back on TV. I did watch that show on BBC 4 about Stax records a week or two ago. That was really good, and the music was great too.

I don't think it's supposed to be an impression show in the strictest sense, just sketches featuring caricatures. It's still crap though.
Nelsta Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I wish Charlie Brooker was back on TV. Any Idea when Screen Wipe is back on? I like the Show and find Charlie Brooker to genuinly be really funny and really wasted on bbc3 or 4 or whatever channel they decied to dump it on. I got into Arrested Development due to his little review of it.
Billy Castell Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 No idea, but I often find him putting into words what I feel about Eastenders, GMTV or that paedo show in a way that I can't. That paedo show is wrong. Some American nobs make an entertainment show about dodgy men chat up '13 year olds', and then act as the self-appointed moral judges, whilst flogging advertising space. How about they just quietly inform the police and let them do the job?

Billy Castell Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I don't have Sky+ and believe me Hubcap, I wouldn't be watching X-Factor if I did. Watching bits of the Olympics recently.
Rovermatt Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 The initial weeks of X-Factor are toe-curlingly embarrassing and instantly make you feel better about your own life.
