Anyone see the programme about Traffic wardens the other night? Would be interested to see other opinions on it.

Personally I thought the way people treated them was shocking, no way they deserve that for doing a job. You break the rules you pay the penalty, someone has to enforce that.

Disappointed with Doctor Who after all the hype..but the Triffids are terrific..Cant wait for tonight

I loved Dr Who, compared to the Water of Mars or whatever the last one was, which was just dire, this one was great, and Tim Dalton's in it. Hurrah!

Come on, it was pretty lame, saved only by the 10 seconds of the Time Lords coming back at the end. The masters jedi powers and constantly eating were pathetic. I don't like John Simms "Insane" master. The Master character always worked better as a thinking, calculated equal to the doctor. Derek Jacobi played it brilliantly before turning into the idot master we have now (and I usually do like John Simm, loved Life on Mars).

Agree to some extent on Waters of Mars, but that was still 1000 times better than planet of the dead.

Still, I'm sure that even the "best bit" (ie timelords) of End of Time, will be ruined by Russell T Davies killing them off again in the blink of an eye, mating the Doctor with three men, 2 aliens whilst managing to get Rose in there somewhere whilst having the Daleks sing an Irish jig to the regeneration. Honestly, I will miss his stories.

Watching it on 4+1 now, great and moving programme but whats with the grinning idiot telling us all he had a shag on the morning he lost his daughter, is that really a lasting memory. I suppose everyone copes with loss differently and they went through a hell of a lot it just seemed odd.

The guy earlier on sat on the beach not moving was eery and its so sad seeing some of them go under and knowing they may well have died.

oooh, I wasn't far from wrong :-)

Bye bye RTD, don't let the tardis door hit you on the way out.

I've been a Dr Who fan of varying degrees since the first episode................moving from religiously hiding behind the sofa to a passing casual interest as I get older. I watched both over the holiday period and was very disappointed. The Beeb have taken an iconic programme featuring probably the most popular Dr actor / character and unashamedley hyped this to new levels in a rush for ratings. Have to say I thought both episodes were overlong, the first didn't even need to be made and the second was little more than a rambling indulgence in which the Dr appears to have "defeated" the Time Lords and the Master before nipping round all his old buddies to say goodbye. Total rubbish. as for David Tennant, who I used to like as a character and actor, has anyone ever (or will ever) appeared on TV so frequently in such a short space of time? Probably a bad decision David, I'm really rather tired of seeing you every 30 minutes. Now Dr Who has been and gone will those very tiresome trailers featuring the reindeer, Tardis and Dr be banished for infinity as well? Please.

Did watch some very good stuff over the holidays though, Day of the Triffids, Hamlet, The Turning of the Screw and looking forward to Survivors retruning soon.

Doctor Who, what a load of old nonsense! I didn't even bother watching it, were the Daleks really in it again?

Was a big fan of the series as a kid, but it's clear Russell Davies doesn't have any sense of what made the program so good. He thinks the important elements are Daleks and Cybermen as often as possible. He clearly needs a good hard knees to the rollocks.

As for Daviod Tennant, obviously the Beeb are so desperate for ratings approval now that when they think they've got a winner they milk it for all its worth. apparently he was on TV/ radio 75 times over the Christmas period. I'm sick to death of the guy.

Christmas TV was, all in all, a great big load of old rhubharb.

I'm longing for the day when the TV licence is abolished, it's an anachronism. The BBC are failing in their remit. I can't remember the last time I saw something decent made by the Beeb. Keep this up and they're on borrowed time.

If this is an ironic post, it's pretty good. If you believe what you write, it's worrying.

Criticising something without watching it - no the Daleks weren't in it - is a great skill to have. Then again, football fans are pretty good at ludicrous armchair sitting, non-attending, type comments, so this is probably to be expected.

As for Russell T Davies not understanding what made the programme good... how does that balance with the most consistently good viewing figures in the programmes history (including a top rated programm of the week, and almost 11m viewers on both Xmas Day and yesterday , and Appreciation Index's constantly in the high 80s (and in the top bracket of "outstanding" of 89+ on several occasions) - which virtually no programme ever achieves, apart from some natural history stuff.

I don't particularly care if people don't like Doctor Who in general, or just specific stories. But at least base your arguments on either watching it, or have some comprehension of facts instead of just burbling on.

Incidentally, do you become "outraged" at a "public outcry" just because the Sun launches a "People's Campaign" with no knowledge of the actual issue?

Well, well - I'd read biddy's comments and assumed that they'd been in it. Every time seemingly that I turned it on they'd be doing battle with either the Cybermen or Daleks, OK, that's an exaggeration, but you have to admit that there was a very heavy script dependence on them throughout the series, no?

I don't know - possibly it's the least worst option on the box for some people? I don't think the way the show was scripted was consistent with the show in the days of Peter Davidson and Tom Baker, maybe that's just my sentimental view looking back. But I thought the storylines were weak, and the villains uninteresting.

i don't particularly care that you're a grown man who is obsessed with Doctor Who, that's your look-out. I ain't stopping you. I have based my arguments on actually watching it mate, so give it a rest.

I don't read The Sun, is this meant to be a quasi-intellectual put-down?

Are you saying The Sun launches a "People's Campaign" with no knowledge of the actual issue?

Are you saying I become "outraged" with no knowledge of the actual issue?

Are you saying that I get outraged at the public outcry?

Or are you saying I become "outraged" because I'm at one with the "public outcry" that has been manipulated by The Sun?

Or are you just "burbling on" making insinuations about me without knowing anything about me; because I've got you worked up into a frothy lather by insulting your hero?

It's just a silly fantasy program about a weedy bloke with an enormous quiff running around making a twit of himself. calm down dear.

I'm guessing you quite like Doctor Who, but can you honestly say the final 2 episodes were great tv and a fitting send off to David Tennant? It was mainly more pompous rubbish from Russell T Davies. Yes, he managed to get Doctor Who back on the screens (with good timing, much help from a vast array of other people and plenty of BBC backing) but his stories have been some of the most inept of them all. Most of the A rated episodes have not been written by him. Unfortunately, all the "specials" were.

Just for a quick run down of his story writing skills from that last episode, there were heavily stolen references / scenes from various other Sci-Fi shows / Films:-

The pointlessly over long missile fight when the green cactus man and Wilf when to the gunners - Star Wars

The radiation death (in a air tight cubilce with gaps in the door) - Star Trek the Wrath of Khan

The Catus people spaceshit - rip off of Starbug

The bar sequence where he got Captain Jack a fella (knew there would be some gay in there somewhere) - complete rip off of Star Wars cantina.

Also, just how did the doctor manage to fall from a moving spaceship fall through a glass ceiling on to a stone floor and survive?!? Not only survive but carry on as if nothing happened. Poor old Tom Baker died falling off a bit of a pylon and didn't have time to say goodbye to all his friends and the universe.

Finally, it's a good job the regeneration isn't always that destructive otherwise we'd have been having a new TARDIS after William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Peter Davison and Colin Baker. And UNIT would have needed a new HQ if Tom's had have been that bad!

Well, well - I'd read biddy's comments and assumed that they'd been in it. Apologies. That was just about the only thing I did get wrong. I'm actually quite surprised he didn't pop back to Skaro to shake Davros' hand before regenerating. He did seem to tour the rest of the universe first.

Hmmmm....

You say I'm "making insinuations about [you] without knowing anything about [you]".. and yet you claim I'm "obsessed" and you've "... insulted [my] hero". And you know what exactly of me?

As regards the Sun, I was referring to the amazing ability of people to follow it (and similar) and it's campaigns with little or no knowledge of the subject matter but just jump on the bandwagon (and I suspect you knew that).

For example, how many people had actually bothered with the Sachs/Ross/Brand recording before being caught up in the whirlwind of 'popular anger'? How many watched the Jerry Springer opera before deciding it was 'evil'? How many football fans slag off AN Player based on one misplaced pass shown in the 90 second highlights on MotD just because they don't like him?

I don't know what any of that has got to do with my observations on Doctor Who which have come from actually watching it. If you carefully re-read what I have written, you'll see that I didn't claim to have seen the Christmas/ New Year episodes, so why you are "burbling" on about me "burbling" on I really don't know. It has absolutely no relevance.

I think it's quite clear from your posts in the past that you're heavily into Doctor Who, I don't think I really need to know you personally in order to say that much. You don't have to know me to know that I have an interest in Blackburn Rovers.

But I don't think I've ever denigrated your intellect nor you capacity to think independently.

Which is what you seem to have done, all because you threw your toys out of the pram because I dared to criticise Doctor Who.

I think you need to get a little perspective and not take it *quite* so seriously.
