Is it essential to watch the other miniseries, namely Razor, The Plan etc.?

I would watch Razor at the end of Season 3.0. There are reasons for this if you follow the story lines closely, I will not ruin it for you but trust me on this, and you will appreciate Razor a lot more for the nuances if you watch it at the end of Season 3.0 the go straight into the next season.

The plan can easily be watched at the end for an alternate viewpoint.

Battlestar Galactica... Where has it been all my life?!

I was really looking forward to this and I would watch it IF THEY WOULD KEEP THE DAMN CAMERA STEADY!

I understand the old wobbly camrea in action scenes and I understand that they do it to add a documentary/realism feel to it, but it just gets on my nerves!

Just take some Dramamine, it is worth it. :)

After awhile it becomes unnoticeable, except at a subconscious level I suppose.

Yeah, really not keen at all.

Heresy!!!!

I found it's got better and better with each episode and series by series as the characters are developed.

Also more worrying, a lot of Howard and Sheldon appear to have been modeled on me

Was going to basically put what you did rebel. I watched them as listed above and thought it was excellent.

Very touching and sad, yet heartwarming hour tribute to Alex Higgins last night on BBC2. It's probably online somewhere if you missed it. If not let me know and I will PM you the best bits.

Am watching a bunch of stuff right now, trying to catch up (some I might have mentioned before):

Justified - really well acted show, based off of an Elmore Leonard (Get Shorty author) short story. Started watching it because it has Walton Goggins from The Shield and he has been as good as expected.

Burn Notice - fun show, in the middle of series 2 right now.

Rescue Me - one of the best years of its run so far, probably because of less seeing of dead people and more focusing on the interactions of the main characters.

Entourage - one of the worst years of its run so far - think they are running out of ideas.

Also, for those who like The Wire, I'd highly recommend Homicide: Life on the Streets, the first show from David Simon and based on a book he wrote that followed the Baltimore Homicide department for a year.

I found this to be pretty vacuous to be honest. It is saved from oblivion by the aforementioned Goggins and the awesome Timothy Olyphant. These two alone drag you through some pretty powder-puff episodes.

Just finished season one of Battlestar Galactica. Brilliant.

Made it all the way till this current season when, for some reason, it just working working for me anymore. Really enjoyed it for a 3 solid seasons though.

Far better - Sometimes you gotta roll the hard six. ;)

On several friends recommendations, I've been watching FX's reruns (an episode a night) of all of Farcsape (as I missed it all the first time around). Series 1 to 3 are excellent (once you get over the whole "muppets in space" thing), series 4 (which I'm half way through) seems a bit all over the place, but still good.

I admit to being absolutely blown away by it. I was wary of it for years, in spite of the praise it had garnered, due to the subject matter. My best mate is a big sci-fi fan and watches a hell of a lot of low-grade, derivative nonsense (Stargate, Babylon 5, Deep Space Nine, Enterprise etc.) I absolutely detest that stuff (I even have trouble telling it apart) and thus when he mentioned Battlestar Galactica being the best thing since sliced bread I was immediately skeptical.

However, I'm glad I took the plunge. The issues explored, both existential and frighteningly real (the need for water, fuel and more than 33 minutes relief from the threat of the enemy), are so interesting and courageous. The acting is utterly superb and there are moments of levity thrown in at exactly the right time (mostly provided by the craven Dr Baltar). Season two is in the post. I can't wait.

Must admit I'm probably closer to your mate is terms of sci-fi stuff, but usually end up like you describe. I always get suckered into things like stargate etc and then realize I hate it and drop it. So for BSG, I didn't even consider it for years, till the show basically was over. Started watching it and watched it completely (every season [or series as you say], mini series, webisode etc) last summer.

Like you said in your second paragraph, that really what sucked me in as well. Season 1 is at 100mph the whole time it feels like thinking back to it, and all those issues really set you up for the next season. Keep us posted with how you like it, (as well as people who were on the fence but going to watch it now due to all the positive endorsements) and talking about it again has got me re watching season one :P

The mention of Steve Buscemi got me interested. Had a little read about it, the first episode was directed by Martin Scorsese. He seems hevily involved in the show still. How'd you watch it BB? Online stream? Sounds well worth a watch after the 3 points today of course.

Lost land of the Tiger on BBC was brilliant. Only the BBC seem capable of making programmes of this quality.

Anyone notice a resemblance between Steve Backshall and one particular Rovers player?

Is it Samba?

From the eyes, there's a resemblance to Dunny I would say.

I gather you can download it if you hunt around for it.. ;)

I think Scorsese directed the first episode and is going to be the executive producer for the rest of the series. Also i`ve been told that some of the writers from `The Soprano`s` are heavily involved.

Anyone watched An Idiot Abroad? Watched some last night. If you liked Paul Merton in... series then you'll absolutely love this. :tu:

Watched in tonight - very funny. The bit where the driver was eating the chicken foetuses still in the eggs had my missus nearly retching though. ;)

Can't wait for the India one next week!
