Paul Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Its after the watershed - they'd been enough trails that it was more adult and sex and nudity was involved. I havent seen the episode yet - and i'll let you know if Im talikg arse There weren't, you are
Flopsy Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 there have been - Radio 1 and fivelive have been banging on (pun intended) about the fact for a while
Paul Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Seen plenty of trails Flops but didn't take on board it would be more adult. I certainly wasn't expecting graphic stand up humping on the washroom worktop and woman to woman groping! You'll all be watching next week
Biddy Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 I watched last night on BBC HD, very nice quality on there. I have known for a long time that the content was meant to be more "adult" but I presumed that would have meant grittier story lines, swearing etc but not those very poor excuses to put some gay scenes in. This was typical Russel T Davis really. First a completey unnecessary bloke on bloke kiss, then a rather tame (visually) but noisy bathroom romp followed by some equally pointless (but still a little bit interesting) girl on girl grope session. The stories themselves were not much more intelligent or thought provoking than normal Dr Who stories.
Modi Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Torchwood.......very average. Now I'm not a prude and realise the programme was aired after the watershed but it is a Doctor Who spin-off, has been heavily trailed on BBC 1 & 2 and it's half-term. I expected some sexuality but felt very uncomfortable with the graphic simulated sex in the nightclub toilets. I was watching with my fourteen year-old who giggled away but this just wasn't necessary. The BBC must realise a Doctor Who spin-off is going to be watched by children and parents will expect to be able to allow this. You miss the "strong language" warning immediately before episode 1, and the "scenes of a sexual nature" warning immediately before episode 2? The BBC have clearly stated since forst commissioned over 12 months ago, that Torchwood is an adult programme, for an adult audience. They've re-emphasised that at every opportunity and the pretitle warnings were the last thing they could do without having a big flashing yellow sign appear just before any of the offending material. Kids are getting their own series next year - Sarah Jane Adventures and Doctor Who remains for the whole family.
DAZCLARKE Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Best thing on telly yesterday was just before the Grand Prix, when Kimi Raikonnen informed the watching world live that he had just been for a sh@t!!!!!

The language did but that's not much different to a trip to the Rovers. I'm sure the Beeb did put out all the warnings but despite this I feel a Dr W spin-off is going to be attractive to kids. I didn't expect it to be necessary to tell the kids they couldn't watch when I may well do next week.
Billy Castell Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Seen plenty of trails Flops but didn't take on board it would be more adult. I certainly wasn't expecting graphic stand up humping on the washroom worktop and woman to woman groping! You'll all be watching next week What? Why wasn't I informed of this? I might get round to seeing it now. These two won't though:
Rovermatt Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 South Park is a cartoon with cute looking characters and bright colours but kids shouldn't be watching that either, in spite of its obvious attractions. If people are properly advised that the material is unsuitable then that should be that. The beeb broadcast this after the watersehd with the appropriate warnings. After nine o'clock, they can pretty much show what they like (within the law).
AxesFirstTouch Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Good on the BBC for at least producing a Sci Fi series, compared to ITV's crap that is the Mint and reruns of Heartbeart
Modi Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Interesting looking at the viewing figures for Doctor Who and Torchwood. Season 2 of DW averaged around 7.71m, of which 18% were under 16 (1.4m aver) The two episodes of TW averaged 2.36m, of which 7% were under 16 (175k aver) Whilst I understand Paul's concern about the possible expectation of clean family fun (although as I say above, the Beeb did spell out quite clearly what was happening), on the assumption that majority of those kids were at the upper end of under 16, was TW any worse than say Rome - which had far more violence and full frontal nudity? That said, I rather hope my parents forgot about it....
American Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 They finally got around to showing season - sorry - series 4 of Spooks here. Unfortunately, I missed that it was on, and they burned off the last 7 episodes this weekend, which I didn't catch until the end of the episode "Syria". Paul - sometimes they start with the formula and throw you a curve at the end by killing off a character! I was watching thinking, yeah, they'll come in at the end and save Fiona, formulaic, just like Paul said and then - boom.
cn174 Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 I watched The Unit which I had saved on sky+ Quite enjoyed it although if they cut the adverts Im sure it'd only last half an hour.
MI ROVER Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 I watched The Unit which I had saved on sky+ Quite enjoyed it although if they cut the adverts Im sure it'd only last half an hour. Not a bad series at all is the Unit watching the second series over this side of the pond. Good point re: the adverts with the tivo (sky+) tend to accumulate 3 episodes and then watch forwarding through the adverts lucky if it takes an hour and half. Which got me thinking that unless it is live sport I very rarely if at all watch any program which I have not got on tivo thus skipping all the adverts. Which in my household renders the adverts pointless surely I am not the only one to have a distinct change in viewing habits since the invention of tivio(sky+). God I have just realised how boring this sounds. I apologise. Get a life springs to mind

I'm not sure how they are going to acheive this due to the various fast forward speeds but I read a while ago that so firm has come up with a way of at least displaying a static picture advert while you fast forward. They'll get us some how.
Flopsy Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 lots more product placement i think. Also with Sky+ how irritating is it when you're watching something live, and you cant fast forward through the adverts? graphic stand up humping on the washroom worktop and woman to woman groping! You'll all be watching next week god bless Sky+'s pause button
Paul Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 was TW any worse than say Rome - which had far more violence and full frontal nudity? I didn't see many episodes of Rome but they weren't humping in baths god bless Sky+'s pause button I'm just jealous really
DAZCLARKE Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Great film last night on C4, Dead Man's Shoes.
BuckyRover Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 I enjoyed that film also. I also watched 'This World' on BBC2. It was about a hospital in Baghdad. It was shocking, I almost cried. It's available online on the bbc website if anybody wants to check it out
Paul Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 The second-half of Longford on Channel 4. Very good and very informative on a subject I know little about.
Cocker Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Watched Never Mind the Buzzcocks. This was getting a bit tired but last night made me laugh quite a bit. Anthea Turner picked the wrong show to go on to make herself look good. Watch it again here - Click Also watched Catharine Tate - not very funny really And last but not least, Lead Balloon with Jack Dee. I really couldnt tell you if I liked this or not. I changed my mind about 10 times while watching it
