That was a great result for us yesterday. There were great goals scored, players given more game time and playing well, McCarthy continuing his good scoring run and another important win. Like you Somerset Rover, there is something about Everton that I just don't like, I see them as a really boring side, so to beat them was a great feeling.

Couldn't agree more about Arteta, CK. As soon as a defender looked at him funny he'd fall over and the ref gave em a free kick. Worst in the first half. Similar for Anichebe, except when he'd been lying motionless for a few seconds and the air ambulance had just been scrambled, he'd get up and jog forward. I don't make a habit of going on about other teams or players but I was amazed how one dimensional Everton are : play for free kicks. lump em towards Anichebe and hope Johnson gets on the end of any knock down. And at any stage go to ground to get another free kick/penalty. That'll bring the crowds back.

I think Moyes has borrowed big Sams coaching manual ;)

The ball.......................

I had a peek at copies of The Times, The Daily Telegraph & The Guardian today.

All of them make a comment that MH had decided that the FA Cup ball was light, would move in the air, and that a long shot approach would pay dividends by causing problems for the keepers. He was right.

Question: Why didn't he keep his mouth shut and that information to himself and the squad? Now that he has made it public every other team still in the Cup will use it to its advantage.

Perhaps a mistake?

Hughes out.

I think all the various managers left in the Cup should be aware of their balls by now, irrespective of whether Hughes had mentioned it or not.

David Moyes's "the wrong type of ball" excuse ranks alongside some of the other best sporting excuses down the years. Alex Ferguson's most famous one was when United trailed 3-0 against Southampton at half-time and Fergie suggested that it was his players' grey shirts which had made them invisible to each other on the pitch.

Darts player Mervyn King came up with a good one when he lost a World Championship semi-final a few years ago. Mervyn blamed the air conditioning in the arena for blowing his darts away from the doubles and trebles he was going for.

Ronnie O'Sullivan came up with a good excuse in a match against Steve Davis several years ago. Ronnie was leading 8-3 in the Benson and Hedges final and only needed two more frames to win. But Davis won the next seven frames to win the match 10-8 and afterwards O'Sullivan blamed his defeat on losing concentration after a streaker had interrupted the match at 8-3. Hasn't Ronnie ever seen a naked woman before? Steve Davis, on the other hand, seemed to be inspired by the fleshy delights and played brilliant snooker.

Going back to the Everton match, I was pleased that two players who I felt have needed a kick up the backside at times this season, both performed well. MGP had a good game, while Benni McCarthy was impressive when he came on as sub. McCarthy has come up with some important goals this season, but I've been irritated at times by some of his general play, or should I say his general laziness.

A month ago during the shambles at the Valley, both Benni and his partner in crime Nonda were a disgrace that night. Perhaps Hughes gave the two strikers a kick up the backside and they have both benefited in recent weeks from that.

A note of caution for Round 4 of the Cup. In 2003, Rovers had an impressive 3rd Round display away to Aston Villa, winning 4-1 at Villa Park. In Round 4, everyone thought we had an easy tie at home to Sunderland, who were struggling at the bottom of the Premiership. But Rovers, being the bloomin' infuriating team they are at times, could only draw at home to Sunderland and we lost the replay at the Stadium of Light on penalties.

I'm not going to argue that we CAN'T lose, but we have to be happier about Luton or QPR, standing 19th and 20th in the Championship, than we were about Everton.

Sure it's away, but if we can get through this, even with a draw, we have them at Ewood on the second leg and we should feel good about the whole thing.

I'm looking forward to the 4th round. We can certainly lose, but ManU got Porto, West Ham got Watford, and Arsenal got Bolton. We got through a Prem team, and we get a Championship side this time. That's not to say we can't lose, but it's better than drawing ManUre at Old Trafford.

You shouldn't be Everton have been 100% rubbish since Moyes took over. Yes, yes I know they finished 4th or something a couple of seasons back but that was just one of those things. Everton are rubbish, Moyes is vastly over-rated, all they ever achieve is to score a goal and then sit back waiting for the final whistle, which made Saturday's result all the sweeter.

True, "shoot from anywhere" is a great tactic against Howard whatever the ball: FA Cup balloon, Premiership ball or a wet casey!

Blame your keeper, Moyes!

Excellent performance, very encouraging against (On paper) a decent side with a decent record, lovely to watch from an everton box with everton fans, agree, picture of the day, Moyes @ 3-0 down scratching his head and the look of fright on the terraces when Benni was getting ready to come on.

As for Luton or QPR, bring them on!

So much for the Pools Panel, noted they had it down as a Home Win!

Brilliant result and performance. Looks like I won't be hearing a peep out of my Everton-supporting mates this week, plus we're only 3pts and a game in hand away from them in the Premiership :D
