I may be making this up, but weren't we linked with Pirlo several years ago under Souness?

Being linked with a player doesn't mean it has a realistic chance of it happening.

It has no chance of happening now, but at the time we were linked with him he had yet to establish himself, so it would have had a chance then.

Would've been a decent midfield with Zidane, Pirlo and Keane.

I suppose there would've been a chance in 2000-2001 or so when he wasn't established at Inter, but not after that really.
