RoyRover Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Roberts has played well in certain games this season and it seems that Hughes believes that he was worth a run in the first team. I'm still not convinced that he can be a consistent performer or goal scorer for us and that he is still best utilised when he comes off the bench. If someone were to offer £4 million for him in the summer, then I think it would be very hard to turn down.

philipl Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 One thing which astonished me was the way Bikey was brushing Roberts off like a fly. Hughes turned things around so Bikey and Roberts were not in such direct confrontation which helped matters considerably. It also rather confirmed my view that in reality, RSC is one heck of a strong and tough physical specimen as well as having his film star good looks. Bikey didn't push him around like he did with Jason.

RevidgeBlue Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Until Roberts went on a fantastic slaloming run late in the first half, Roberts was woeful yesterday losing posession every time the ball went to him. That two-thirds the length of the pitch charge seemed to settle him down though. Well, I've just got back from London and must have been watching a different game. I thought Roberts was the pick of a very disappointing bunch for us yesterday and at least until they went down to ten, Roberts was the only one who looked like he was capable of making something happen.

True. Through his effort, Roberts at least attempted to make things happen. Santa was clearly tired and could not make much of an impact in the game. He did not look sharp at all, but then again neither did anyone else.
philipl Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Firstr 20 minutes, Roberts was totally dominated by Bikey and mis-controlled every ball played to him. As I wrote he improved after that great run.
S15 Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 People may well oppose this opinion, but I think Roberts is a different and less effective Dickov type player. Always 100 %, but not with the same nack of goals Dickov had.

Indeed. Roque might be physically strong but seemed to lack that bit of pace or sharpness over a few yards to seriously trouble the Reading defenders yesterday. Hopefully he was still suffering from the effects of Mokoena's unwanted attentions in midweek.
Ozz Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Here is the Master himself at work, in er.. a masterclass in finishing in a one-on-one situation. Good work JR. Jason Roberts...MasterClass in finishing.

LeftWinger Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Where's the one where he slams the ball straight at the keeper from one yard away? That must have taken months to film. I'd love to see the out-takes.
Ozz Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 That must have taken months to film. I'd love to see the out-takes. I've seen 'em-on the pitch at Ewood most weeks!
BuckyRover Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 I saw him on tv the other day outside Downing St with Gordon Brown. I think they were throwing racism out of football
Roaming Rover Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 ha ha love that.... 'here's my favourite, as you approach the keeper move the ball one way then the other...' what skill Pele and George Best had a lot to learn Poor JR though, he's done a good job for us this season in the main.
BRFC1995 Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 good job he was "throwing" and not kicking, or that racism would be going nowhere!
BuckyRover Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 It doesn't matter anyway, I recall he was "giving racism the red card" not "throwing racism out of football" Pardon my ignorance
