budha Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Not sure if this has been discussed somewhere else already, but here it goes: According to the newest UEFA Direct newsletter / magazine / whatever (PDF) (page 8) by reaching the Round of 32 in the UEFA Cup 2006-07 Rovers collected total of 380 000 EUR of price money (which translates to roughly £260 000). The winners Sevilla pocketed 6,2M EUR (£4,2M) (when Levski Sofia, who collected least of the CL group stage teams, got 5,6M EUR (£3,8M) and winners Milan almost 40M EUR (£27M)). In the 2006-07 Intertoto Cup each team got 50 000 EUR (£34 000) per round. Is the Intertoto and UEFA Cup really worth the hazzle? Apparently atleast Reading and Portsmouth didn't think so..
Ozz Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Is the Intertoto and UEFA Cup really worth the hazzle? For the fans, it aint no hassle. I loved every minute of each game. I think the players loved it too, from what I read. Despite the modest sums of prize money, it promotes Rovers in Europe and can make the difference when we are in for potential transfers.
modes98 Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Is the Intertoto and UEFA Cup really worth the hazzle? Even if you discount the extra revenue and the pull it gives when getting in a better quality of player. The trips for us fans are great, drunken nights away in holland
American Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 That's just prize money, the TV money is separate, I think. Supposedly we were getting handsomely rewarded for the early start against Leverkusen.
Hughesy Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 750k just for the German TV deal! Well worth it for the fans and it helps increase the profile of the club.
doctorryan Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 ..Is the Intertoto and UEFA Cup really worth the hazzle? Apparently atleast Reading and Portsmouth didn't think so.. Another season (UEFA Cup) like last would be enough to see our UEFA co-efficient club ranking rise high enough for us to be seeded in 3rd round qualifying for the CL next year if we managed a top 4 finish.
krislu Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 This is turning in to a long thread, have the draw actually taken place? Who are we up against?
stuwilky Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 This is turning in to a long thread, have the draw actually taken place? Who are we up against? The draw took place in April or thereabouts, and we are playing either Legia Warsaw, or Vetra - they meet on the 8th and 14th of July. We then play them over the following two weekends.

Apologies if this has been discussed before.

As long as you don't mind the occasional half-hour break at the start of the programme, leaving you having to start watching the game already 15 mins in progress.
brfcshabba Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Has the game been suspended? - Watching the updates on Live score and it says it has
percy Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 following the game on Livescore.com and hoping for a Legia win (booked the flight to Warsaw in advance ) and after 54mins or so, the game time counter has switched to 'Susp.' !?!?!!?!?!! C'mon Legia !! edit: i hope it's for a good reason and it isn't something that means Vetra get awarded a 3-0 win or something....
Jordan Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Sounds like the game may have been abandoned due to trouble with the fans.
