OJRovers Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 SAMBATIME! Great win last night. We were never going to play them off the park, so i'm happy with the containing system and the performance. Samba was class, Sky gave Nelsen the MOTM but i'd say the big man was better. I think Freddie Lberg will be having nightmares about samba towering over him in the 2nd half when he fell over! Bring on City / Bolton

Friarsnig Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Did anyone notice the Arsenal fans outside McDonalds after the game last night? They pulled out in their car amidst all the rovers fans walking up Livesey, only to turn right down the one way street with half of the Blackburn end walking towards them. Safe to say they didnt look happy about it and got their knickers in a right old twist. I saw that. The idiots could have killed someone the speed they shot off at. I think they'll have a few dents to sort out today.
rover6 Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 We beat Arsenal (albeit reserves) on our way to Worthy glory under Souness - and yeah, the parallels stop there. Great to win and pee those Gunners off. It's is a bit ridiculous how their reserve players are basically as good as their first teamers, so it was good to restore some illusory equality to English topflight footy. Samba and Nelsen have the makings of a dream CB pairing. And with Mokoena in front, they can't go wrong....
SuperStella Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 What a fantastic testimony to Mark Hughes as a manager last night - we had a gameplan at the Emirates, keep a clean sheet, play for a draw then get them back to Ewood and do them. Another Hughes-esque masterstroke with the man of the match being a £300,000 reserve team player from Hertha Berlin, nobody had heard of! Oh and then he made the double-substitution of Dunn and McCarthy. Dunn played through the majestic pass to Benni to bag that wonder goal!

Samba and Nelsen have the makings of a dream CB pairing. And with Mokoena in front, they can't go wrong.... To be fair, they played as close as to a first team back line as they could and I don't think changing the keeper makes much difference to them, they are both about the same. They probably had many more real first choicers missing then we do if you think that we would like to have Reid, Savage and Ooijer in the team, not to mention having a fully-fit Dunn and Roberts.
SuperStella Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Arsenal need to remember two things: 1. Our team was depleted at the Emirates and we got a draw. 2. The way we played away was exactly how Arsenal used to play when they were at home! Samba = wot a guy!!
Ronin Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Samba was class, Sky gave Nelsen the MOTM but i'd say the big man was better. I think Freddie Lberg will be having nightmares about samba towering over him in the 2nd half when he fell over! Probably gave the MotM to Nelsen because they wouldn't be able to get Samba into camera frameshot for the after game interview. Would probably only come up to his chest. Think that tall bloke in Police Squad
Cheshireblue Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Just to echo a few others observations, I thought Samba had a great game last night. Very strong indeed. He and nelson look a decent pairing. Bentley looked lively, as did Dunny when he came on. Tugay had a quieter game but his little flicks and simple short passes are still a joy to behold. He did commit the best foul of the evening when he simply wrapped his legs around an arsenal player in the centre circle. Brad kept us in it again, but that is what we have come to expect from him. Has teh shoudl er charge been outlawed from the game? Samba got pulled up constantly last night. I can only imagine that it was because it looked worse that in was due to the fact he could play second row for sale, never mind centre half for Rovers! What my Dad calls a "big unit".
SamTheShrew Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 how sweet it was to be in a pub full of arsenal fans and watch benni's goal go in and then them subsequently turn round to me and glare. i work up this morning, then when i remembered again couldnt stop smiling haha! excellent result. most important thing is to get to the final, surely against Chelski or Manure so we therefore get into europe just for being there!
vyeo Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 am i the only one who wishes that people stop talking bout another possible 3 victories in this competition?? PLEASE STOP!!!!!!! haha much as I'm enjoying the euphoria surrounding the win, I too have similar sentiments Blueboy. I'm utterly convinced that should we get past Man City, we're gonna get either Man U or Chelski in the semis, FOR SURE. As for the game, we rode our luck, but who cares?! 1-0 and a wonderful reaction from benni. Hopefully this will kickstart his form again.
thenodrog Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Theno - Jim's right though we weren't at all good last night going forward and Emerton should have conceeded a penalty. Still we scored with one of our few attempts and thats what counts. Don't be so naive Flopsy. Jim's a miserable, snipe nosed old git who delights in being the bearer of bad tidings. He cocked up last night big time when his favourites spewed it in the last 3 minutes. A psychologist might say that his obvious delight in purveying negativity and bad news is down to deep unhappiness in his own life. Unloved childhood / underachievment in his work / sexual inadequacies etc. Classic case imo. You may have sympathies with that but personally I couldn't give a toss..... life's too short to bother about losers. If you disagree then tell me where his celebratory / congratulatory post was when Benny scored or at the final whistle then. Also how many positive posts did he make during the excellent Everton away 3rd round win? PS You don't suppose the incinerated man on top of the electified train in Manchester last night could've been? Nah.....surely not.
Flopsy Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 nah hes complained since then Jim was right with his slating of Emerton, he was having a bit of a mare, the fact that miseryguts then didnt run round the mb shouting his head off doesnt change that. Or are you becoming an England cricketer? Only focusing on the positives
tchocky Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 we're gonna get either Man U or Chelski in the semis, FOR SURE. Goes without saying Have to get past Man Chitty Chitty Bang Bang first.
broadsword Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 For those of us who believe the draw is fixed, presumably the (please don't use that ###### word again) at the FA thought Arsenal were going to get through and so gave them an easy draw at home to Citeh in the quarters. So I think it's pretty much guaranteed we'll get Man Utd in the semi's if we get through.
Jordan Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Fantastic Goal, Fantasic Result. Through to the quarters again and dreaming of getting to the final. Samba and Nelsen were outstanding and Friedel made a couple of great saves to keep us in it. Well Done lads.
tmap Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Goes without saying Have to get past Man Chitty Chitty Bang Bang first. Sweet. Not sure I can really face taking the whole frigging family to frigging Cardiff for an 8am kickoff with tickets at £70 (but only £70 for kids) just to get ripped apart in the press again, but let's worry about that another day. Man City could be tough, then Plymouth in the semis and Spurs in the final. Mark Hughes will declare himself fit and terrorise them into submission again.
Ronin Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Would prefer say a Man U v Chelsea/Spurs semi, obviously. That way you'd get a similar final to last year. Plus there's a chance, if we got through, to play Spurs in the final. Be good to beat them to get into Europe again. Although if it was a Man U/Chelsea vs final then we'd only have to be in the final to get into Europe. Just want to be there in May, not fussed on who yet.
Ste B Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Are the Semi's in Cardiff by the way. Neutral Venue to be decided - for that read cardiff... But theres still a chance that say we get Boro that we play at Old Trafford.
gazsimm Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 great result last night, dull game but i don't care bring on the city, lets hope we get a bigger gate for this one
Flopsy Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 --> QUOTE(Ste B @ Mar 1 2007, 11:08 ) 494185[/snapback] Neutral Venue to be decided - for that read cardiff... But theres still a chance that say we get Boro that we play at Old Trafford. We are talking about the FA so therefore surely it would be more likely to be Cardiff if, by some miricle, we did get Boro.
Fife Rover Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 fa cup win....burnley relegated ...nob end stay down(hope they get to play off final again and it costs all nob end scum inc ex in laws lots of money to see them lose again You really can be quite a nasty piece of work cant you Abbs! I wouldn't like to meet you on a dark night; well leastways not unless I had my umbrella.
Cheshireblue Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I was just reading the sky match report, and noticed the stats at the bottom. Successful tackles made - Rovers 84%, Arsenil - 51%. Not that they are a bunch of lightweight tackle shy foreign mincers or anything....

Not that they are a bunch of lightweight tackle shy foreign mincers or anything.... and i bet the axe was at the top of list as well, with Samba coming close in second, they were class last night
jim mk2 Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Looking at the replays, my instinct last night was that Friedel's challenge on Aliadiere and Emerton's tussle with Ljungberg were both clear penalties and having seen them again I still believe that to be the case. If they had been our penalty claims we would have been accusing Poll of big-club bias. Well done to Friedel though for conning Poll into thinking Aliadiere was at fault. As for Emerton, his limitations as a defender were sorely exposed last night. We need a new specialist right back next season.
