Time to dig up the D'Urso incident.
herbergeehh Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Didn't see the match, have only read one report.. but if the Lille management team threatened to pull the team because of a decision - dodgy or not dogdy, I have no idea - he has a point. It's ridiculing the referee, and it's something FIFA should punish. As I said though, the ref might've been 100% right all game and the point about "intimidating him" - cointossing aside - isn't really something Ferguson or anyone else should take up in a serious discussion about professional football. If Neville was hit though, it's up to FIFA again. (again again again)

Ferguson didn't "take up" anything though...he was asked on the spot by the interviewer...and the interviewer was quite forceful in trying to get an answer. Hard for him not to comment at all on it then!
herbergeehh Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I've no doubs about that, sadly that's the case of almost any story in the press these days- you can't trust any of them really.
neekoy Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I can see ABBEYS point though, Ferguson always spouts this kind of crap even if he or his team are the biggest offenders See: Whinging about soft penalties, extra injury time given, intimidating referees on and off the pitch ect Lille are probably sick to death of bigger clubs always getting the rub over them and for god's sake this is the Champions League, that decision could cost them millions of dollars and a spot in the next round. Imagine if the shoe was on the other foot, the penalty would have been replayed
herbergeehh Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Regardless though, threatening to withdraw the team from the whole match is beyond a million pounds, it's a ridicule of the whole game and it's rules. Not saying Abbey doesn't have a point though, just annoyed about Lille's reaction to a (possible) ref mistake.
tcj_jones Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I actually have no idea what the first post of this topic says...

only2garners Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 good post, as for the crowd problems after 10mins, wasn't it a similar situation to what happened to us in rotterdam? Similar, but according to the paper today, was started by he stewards letting United fans who had bought tickets for the home end to move into the United section, thereby overcrowding it.

I never try to be an english proffesor and dont give 2 hoots what anyone thinks...anyhows back to weazle face..whilst he was ranting he never mentioned scholes being lucky not to be sent off (not even a yellow) or the ronaldolycraboy diving and as for the disallowed goal he did the perfect arshole whinger ," I didnt see it!!"...simalar circs to rovers a la sherwood/shearer
3rdpillar Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Furguson makes my blood boil. Dissallowed goal , the United defender was on his way down as he couldnt get back and if he could he could have only headed towards his own goal... Defender chose to thow himself over at the slightest of contacts. Good goal should have stood Roanaldos free kick should not have stood as the ref had not indicated play had started. United cheat their way from defeat yet again... United fans here are proud of it, and think its because they are so good they get away with it.
thenodrog Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 It's a strange rule this free kick taken quickly jobby. If a short free kick is taken quickly I've no problem, but allowing an attempt at goal is wrong now that defenders are automatically yellow carded for standing close in front of the ball until the wall is sorted*. Maybe a 2 or 3 yard rule for this would suffice. *btw Neville kicked the ball staright at an opponent doing this very thing recently in an obvious attempt to get him booked. Sly little git.
den Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 The problem with that type of quickly taken free kick, is that it gives the impression of collusion between the attacking side and the ref. A quick free kick shouldn't be allowed in those circumstances. A direct shot on goal from any free kick shouldn't be allowed until the whistle has been blown - and the ref must be sure that the defenders are ready before he blows.

The ITV coverage beforehand was nauseating-claiming that a United victory against the the mighty Lille would 'send out a message to the rest of Europe'.
ABBEY Posted February 21, 2007 Author Posted February 21, 2007 and if they got beat then the pitch was to blame
Hasta Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 There's a bit of difference between initimdating a ref on the pitch like the D'Urso incident (which was still wrong) and what happened last night. Regardless of whether Fergie says it or someone else, teams cannot be allowed to walk off a pitch if they disagree with a decision by a reeree, let alone one that was (for the free kick) probably correct under current laws. Complain to the ref , Uefa or whoever after but to say 'we are not playing any more' is unacceptable. Every club in the land gets bad decisions, sometimes a lot more in one game than the Lille players got last night. For once I don't think Fergie was totally out of order, and it was also good to watch him publicly bollocking Gary Neville on the pitch for sticking his oar in.
Ronin Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 It did work way back in 1982 with the world cup, and the Kuwait team. The head of Kuwaiti FA took the team off the pitch as he disagreed with the ref allowing a goal against the French. They only went back on after the ref disallowed the goal, if memory serves.
M-K Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Roanaldos free kick should not have stood as the ref had not indicated play had started. United cheat their way from defeat yet again... It was Giggs - Ronaldo was nowhere near it. The referee clearly said something to Giggs and Rooney. Rooney placed the ball and Giggs whipped it in, so the ref must have given the nod for the free kick to be taken. How many times have we seen similar from Henry at Arsenal? Absolutely nothing wrong with it, and when Henry does it, it's usually called clever play. The only reason anyone is getting all worked up about it here is because it's Man U. So what? Plenty of people hate the Rovers with almost equal venom, not because we win anyything but because we have a nasty habit of kicking their best players off the park. After what the French coach did, they'll be lucky to be allowed to contest the second leg. A Euro ban wouldn't be an overreaction, so can't we just stop with all the 'Fergie makes my blood boil' rubbish and concentrate on hating West Ham or something?

At the end of the post i make reference to United fans, here. They are the basking in their antics. They love it, that why I dislike what their club stands for when represented by the morons....

Yes M-K, but do you not see the allegation that the ref got out of the way, so that Giggs could put the ball into an empty net? Does that not cause some unease? It's wrong and shouldn't happen again. It happened against us when Beckham put the ball past Brad who was a mile off his goal line organising the wall. At the same time Craig Short was barely inches over the touchline. The rovers fans were incensed at that time and it's no wonder. One of the rovers players did the same thing in a game shortly after that one and was booked for it. Obviously because the ref hadn't said he could take it quickly.
mike at picture Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Speaking of Ronaldo, the slimy one went of in a huff after being subbed due to a substandard performance. Trouble at t'mill? Lets hope so!
