Cocker Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 what the title says I think its a bit harsh really
frosty Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Maybe a little harsh, but where are they in the league now? About 20th?
Cocker Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Maybe a little harsh, but where are they in the league now? About 20th? Shows how long its been since I looked at that league
Ste B Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Maybe a little harsh, but where are they in the league now? About 20th? They are so low, even Burnley are above them
thenodrog Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Burnley haven't sold their 5 best players for over £9m. Newell's had a disheartening time of it this season and when he finally rails against the board he gets potted. The other side of the coin of the managerial merry go round. I cant think that the next man in will fare any better in the long term ......... but hopefully he will in the short term if there is a God!
FourLaneBlue Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 He brought him on himself for criticising the board on a number of occasions and especially for selling their best players. He was probably right in what he said but you don't slag off your boss now do you and expect to stay in a job?
Ronin Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Plus after what he's said, about the Luton board, bungs, female assistant refs, etc, may be a while before he gets another management job?
Gav Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 burnleys next home game........Luton Town, a team on the up after sacking the manager
USABlue Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 burnleys next home game........Luton Town, a team on the up after sacking the manager Let's be quick like a bunny and loan Luton some of our best reserve team players
modes98 Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 may be a while before he gets another management job? Manchester Citeh
Manc Rover Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Luton were only going one way once all that scandal about women officials and bungs came out. He seems like a doom and gloom merchant and has dragged his club down with him. Shame really but probably gonna struggle to get another club now.
Eddie Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Unimpressed by his idiotic comments about female officials and based on the negative press and the poor results that he has brought to the club in recent times he really deserved it.
Billy Castell Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Whilst he has been very quick to publicly say things that are sometimes best not said, a team like Luton cannot sell their best 4 or 5 players and expect to keep up without reinvesting in the squad. Luton simply doesn't have much depth. What has happened to the £9m? either Luton have been trying to get rid of debts, and had to spend it all to keep the wolves at bay, they are finally going to build a new stadium* (at the expense of the team) or the chairman's wife happens to have a new Aston Martin. It isn't all Newell's fault Luton are where we are, but his tirades against bungs, women and the board didn't create a calm and stable atmosphere at the club. *=This new stadium has been talked about for at least 10-15 years. Ever since Mr. Kohler was the chairman they have been wanting to build a new stadium near junction 12-14, or even move to Milton Keynes. Funding and planning permission have been two factors that have consistently got in the way, as well as having been cursed with a series of tossers as chairman/owner.

Something was mentioned about this on SSN not so long ago. I think that have had planning permission approved and hope to move to the ground for the beggining of the 2009/2010 season.
Billy Castell Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Jesus Christ! It's going ahead? Put it this way, it was more of a bad joke down there than all the Wembley delays.
Silencio Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Not bothered about Newell, I think he's an absolute weirdo...
Cheshireblue Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 I've met him a few times and he is a really decent chap. He just gets frustrated with all the nonsense that goes on in football. Luton have asset stripped the team and sold all their half decent players. No wonder they are in free fall. He will do well and ought to have no problems getting another job. He is a good manager and a good bloke.
M-K Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 If I recall correctly, they were going to call the stadium the Kohlerdome, and it was going to have an F1 circuit running around it.
thenodrog Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Does anybody know what the scandal was that resulted in him leaving Hartlepool?
James No. 7 Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Does anybody know what the scandal was that resulted in him leaving Hartlepool? All of the following three message board threads reveal important pieces of information on reasons behind his sacking. They are short reads. http://www.sportnetwork.net/boards/read/s8...=678&sid=84 http://www.sportnetwork.net/boards/read/s8...=671&sid=84 http://www.sportnetwork.net/boards/read/s8...=693&sid=84
Billy Castell Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 If I recall correctly, they were going to call the stadium the Kohlerdome, and it was going to have an F1 circuit running around it. It was to be called the Kohlerdome, and the F1 track rings a bell. I think it was an ambitious attempt to take the British GP to Milton Keynes, where many of the teams had links. Cranfield University which has a strong engineering reputation is nearby as well. Thing is, Silverstone is only a couple of junctions north on the M1. Can you imagine having a GP in Milton Keynes though?! What would the F1 drivers have made of all the roundabouts?! Actually, the British rally drivers did a stint in the area a few years ago, and all I can remember was a couple got done for speeding, and Carlos Sainz came a cropper about 300 metres from the finish by crashing into a concrete block. That wasn't a concrete cow by the way.

The press and media are just a bunch of ignorant yard dogs at best.
