Steve McLaren is a poor manager at best, but I do feel sympathy with him and believe he is only partly to blame.

90% of the England teams problems lie solely with the players.

the reason they never replicate their club performances and play like imposters, with no hunger, pride or inventiveness has nothing to do with the manager.

there are obvious divisions in the England squad. their body language (slumped shoulders) speaks volumes and the players don't communicate on the pitch. there are too many fevered egos!

people say, ''the England team needs a good motivator.'' rubbish! if you need motivation to represent your country, there's something wrong with you!

Add to it at their clubs they have players surrounding them with the right skills to help them succeed.

I went throught the English team and there doesn't appear to be one player who is the best player in the club side he is playing for at the moment.

When you think of past players you has Shearer, Linekar, Waddle, Gazza, Beardsley, Ince IMO all at the time the best player in their club sides

The only one argueably is probably Carragher and he is getting completely shafted

Don't write us off yet - McClaren

Tue 27 Mar, 10:30 AM

Steve McClaren says it is "ridiculous" to write off England's hopes of reaching Euro 2008 less than halfway through their qualifying campaign.England are five points adrift of group leaders Croatia ahead of Wednesday's clash with minnows Andorra.

McClaren has been showered with criticism after Saturday's goalless draw in Israel, despite attempting to put a positive spin on the performance during a press conference brought forward 24 hours to Monday.

But he points to the doom and gloom that surrounded England's reversal in Northern Ireland 19 months ago and their subsequent qualification for the 2006 World Cup as a reason to be upbeat.

He said: "There is still a long way to go - seven games out of 12. We have got to make sure we beat Andorra and Estonia and then we will be closer to Russia who have still got to travel to Croatia and us.

"They are the big games. Of course, there is always a danger of not qualifying. But after Northern Ireland there was so much criticism and stick and 'you'll never qualify' - and we did.

"To write us off now is absolutely ridiculous."

McClaren is unfazed by the potential embarrassment of seeing Scotland and Northern Ireland qualify from far tougher groups.

He said: "It's where you end up. It's not where you are in the middle of the season. It's a long road.

"We know what these players are capable of. They know what they have to do. They have been told. They know it's a case of producing now and not talking about it.

"The message is we know what we have to do in that camp. We win the next two and we will then be in a far better position with big games coming up we have to win after the summer."
