neekoy Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Wow, I can't believe this is really most probably likely to happen. Paul Allen, he seems to be quite passive in his involvement so that is a definate plus
Cocker Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I am not sure that I would like to see a whole load of money comming in at the moment. I would really like to see us hold on to the players we have for a season because I really think we have something here if they can all stay fit. Then again, if someone said to me you sell Savage to buy Kaka then I wont say no
Beta Ray Bill Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 It's our old friend Alan Nixon! It's rather strange to see him almost complimentary about Rovers as "interesting buy" in a "healthy financial situation" and talking about the possibilities of pushing on further.
Ninjathunder Posted June 13, 2007 Author Posted June 13, 2007 Well it wasn't quite the couple of days as my source informed me but it looks as though there was truth in what I was told. Concerned as to whether this will be good for the fans; i can't imagine an American investor dropping season ticket prices.
modes98 Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Oh can we just see the colour of your money please! With all these clubs in takeovers, i hoped it was only a matter of time before JW found someone who he felt was right for the club. I hope it is paul allen "worth an estimated $18.0 billion."
Eddie Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 It's something that will need to happen to secure the future of the club and I trust that if we do sell then it will be to the right person. It could be exciting times if the right deal is done.
Backroom trueblue Posted June 13, 2007 Backroom Posted June 13, 2007 I'm sure JW won't do a deal unless it's the right one for Blackburn Rovers
den Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 JW said this morning that nothing is imminent. The club are still talking to a number of potential investors.

Mr. E Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 ...this is some kind of joke right? We are one of the last few remaining REAL football clubs, if we sell out to the americans we become just like all the others. I hope to Zeus this isn't true.
The1mattjansen Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Im absolutely gutted. The premiership has been slowly drifting into a rich mans playground for far too long and it appears its going to finally crack and become and all out joke, takeovers like these are IMO dreadful for the long term future of a game which is built on fans relationship to the players and the club, as opposed to the simply the goods on the pitch. Our money man came in the form of a Blackburn legend and has absolutely no relation to the current links from bored Yank playboys looking to continue there economic strangehold on the world. The day our small industrial town sells out to someone living in a hollywood mansion will be one we live to regret immensely.

We are one of the last few remaining REAL football clubs, if we sell out to the americans we become just like all the others. I hope to Zeus this isn't true. The problem there Mr E is that the way football is going everyone else will sell out and we will end up falling behind and getting relegated. I agree it is a shame but in the long term I dont think there will be a choice. Can you really stomach teams like Big Club and Middle of the table Villia being above us - I know I cant Man U won the league last year with their foreign owners and to be fair to them you havent heard a peep from them since they rolled up apart from them writing cheques.

doctorryan Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 It's something that will need to happen to secure the future of the club and I trust that if we do sell then it will be to the right person. It could be exciting times if the right deal is done. The future of the club is already secure. We are relatively debt free (all money owed is to the trust or to banks associated with the trust), and that goes for the ground and the stadium as well. This will do nothing more than make it easier to buy our way back towards the top. And I'm not sure that it's a good tradeoff to have just that in return for some idiot who, for all you know; may want to change the badge, change the colors, sell Brockhall, sell the stadium name or even rip Ewood down and build a new stadium god knows where in 5 years time. Trust me, I'm a Yank & I've watched these jerks ruin 3 of the 4 major sports leagues over here in the last 20 years. Nothing will be sacred. NOTHING! What we want is new investment, not new people at the controls. If Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen wants to come in and buy 49% of the club and help us buy half of Series A, La Liga, etc.. on our way to the European Cup, then fine. Unfortunately that's not how it usually works. Jack was one of us, that's why it went so well. Whoever these people might be (if there is anything close to happening), they'll be in it for the $. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
modes98 Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 The future of the club is already secure. We're still getting a fair chunk from the trust each year to keep us in that secure bracket though and they won't continue doing that forever. An investor will have to come in or we will face problems in the future and it may get to a stage that, if we start to get picky, we will just have to go with someone. I think JW has good enough judgement to make the correct choice for the future of the club and set down good terms for any deal given to any potential investor.

Be afraid. Be very afraid. Unfortunately, whilst our own financial situation is ok, the tide around us is rising and we are fast approaching a time when every other team in the premiership will have more financial backing. We could stay up for a while in that sort of a situation, but relegation would have to come eventually. Realistically we'll never get an investor who wants to simply put money in without getting to see his name flashed around, so we will have to actually sell the club. I'm sure that there are good options out there, so the club is taking the right approach and really looking around.
SuperStella Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I dont know why people are complaining..... most premiership clubs now have £££ to spend on players thanks to foreign owners and the money they have available. If we are gonna compete with the rest of the teams by going for the best players + keeping the ones we currently have happy, then have no choice. Whats the alternative? Survive on ££ a year the Walker Trust fund gives us, and hope we pull off a few bargains every season?
OhmiBRFC Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Dont want to sell our soul to the devil Our board have worked very hard for us the fans, no gurantee that a new ownership will be the same
Blueboy Downunder Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 i think what all of us are waiting for is for another "jack walker" to come along with enough financial clout and being a rovers fan into the bargain aswell. that aint gonna happen, cause there will never be another jack walker. i totally agree with super stella, in taht if their is a guy out there, regardless of where he comes from, whom is willing to give sparky the funds to put this club where we belong, then i am all for it...on the other hand, we can always just keep going along as we are doing, and calling ourselves "the nearly men". answers itself really.
LeftWinger Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 1) American buys Rovers 2) Rovers spend big - fans happy - team does well 3) Suddenly the ticket prices go rocketing up 4) Fans get annoyed - attendances drop dramatically 5) American gets upset with low income - decides to call it a day 6) Rovers are sold, but left with a huge wage bill 7) Rovers end up the "New Leeds" Maybe I'm being over dramatic - but I'm happy how we are. We're doing ok with a limited budget - and while it's going to get tougher - as long as we're managed well we'll not get relegated - even while the others are spending big. I'd like us to find someone to invest, as long as it's someone who's not just after making a quick bit of money or looking for a short-term play thing. We'll never find another Jack Walker though.
waggy Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 we have enough indians in town so lets hope these yanks are cowboys BLACKBURN RODEO'S YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
waggy Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 On a more serious note, can't say i'm overjoyed with this news.It seems to me that these rich owners get more tv coverage during the match than some players, will a FC ROVERS spring up
