John Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 JW said we would need someone with wealth similar to Roman Abram at Chelsea (if we were to sell) - his words not mine. Jerome Simon has been linked but I cannot find much info on him....

Krillin Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Jerome Simon has been linked but I cannot find much info on him.... He does seem a bit elusive on the internet. He has previously been sniffing around Millwall and Manchester City so is, it appears, in the market for an English football club. Both Millwall and City (who are both in more financial trouble than The Rovers) rejected his advances. Anyways, I found this about him..... Jerome L. Simon, who has a background in distressed companies, is the manager and sole member of Lonestar Capital Management LLC... Lonestar, founded by Simon in the summer of 1995, specializes in special situations, distressed investing, energy, and the exploitation of leveraged capital structures and mispriced securities. Simon, who received an MBA from Stanford University in 1990 and a bachelor's degree in economics from Claremont McKenna College in 1982, has more than 10 years experience in the securities industry. He worked for Drexel Burnham Lambert in Los Angeles in the restructuring advisory group and for the distressed securities desk in the summer of 1989. Simon then worked for two Mill Valley, Calif.-based hedge funds, Paul D. Sonz Partners LP in 1991 and 1992, and Avdan Partners LP in 1993 and 1994. Simon worked as a consultant for Leucadia National Corp., a diversified holding company involved in banking, real estate and other areas, from November 1994 until March 1995. Earlier, from 1986 to 1988, Simon was president of a single-asset hotel corporation that became a debtor-in-possession in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding. He also worked as an independent petroleum landman in 1984 and 1985. Taken from this article.
Bennisfromheaven Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Not as rich as Paul allen but he's still worth a few bob!! Found an article; "First, an item on Jerome Simon, manager and sole member of Lonestar Capital Management LLC. His portfolio of firms has been estimated by the London Mirror at approximately $1 billion. Lonestar, according to one report “specializes in special situations, distressed investing, energy, and the exploitation of leveraged capital structures and mispriced securities.” Anyhow, he has just created quite a bit of buzz in Manchester, England. The 47 year old is trying to buy their football team, Manchester City!" http://sfluxe.com/category/billionaires/
Krillin Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 ............."estimated by the London Mirror at approximately $1 billion". http://sfluxe.com/category/billionaires/ $1billion is more than most of us will ever see, but it converts into real money at about £500m. Which is around the current value of the Walker family (maybe even a touch less??). Taking into account he has other interests and buisnesses (as have The Walkers) it may be he provides less transfer money than we receive already, given that the pot is smaller to start with. Depends how much of it he is willing to invest in our club (if he is an interested party of course), but it seems to be a sideways step at best, if not a slightly backwards one. The Walker family have made it fairly clear they are looking to sell in the relative short term. The best policy would be to stay with what/who you know, but that isn't going to be an option. I don't think that Mr Simon would be good for The Rovers. We need a '£ proper' billionaire!
philipl Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Given Simon is a bottom fisher (distressed assets, crocks, call them what you want), he will surely be looking at City rather than Rovers. Of course we might be all getting name confusion and the American is Paul Simon- "hop on a bus, Gus"
Guest Kamy100 Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Just had a call from someone I know who write's for "Insider" magazine, he tells me that the deal to buy Rovers is almost complete, he said that the person who is fronting the deal is local, he isn't sure if that local person has backing from other foreign parties. I have no reason to doubt this information as he is really well connected.
HairwayToSteven Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Thanks Kamy, you're a star. Yes, you are. Very very very very interesting! Though LET, I think it was, wrote that the deal wasn't imminent. On the other hand, if you trust this sources reliability then I'll trust your trust. Local you say? Interesting indeed!
Guest Kamy100 Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Yup that is what he said, like I said he is usually very right about stuff, especially financial dealings, he writes for the "insider" which is financial magazine.
EwoodGlory Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Just a thought, does Dave Whealen own Wigan or is it JJB? I noticed he sold his share in JJB last week for £190m. He's a Rovers fan and has said he would of loved to of bought it before, only reason he didn't because Uncle Jack had it.
USABlue Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Latest on the take-over and Hughes to City stories. Way to go Sparky. Sparky sticks with lil ol Rovers rather than the massives. Good stuff.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Local? Which businessman has just sold his assets? Dave Whelan perhaps? Is he still on the Wigan board?
den Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Hang on lads, Kamy said the local guy was fronting the take over. That doesn't necessarily mean he's buying it.
EwoodGlory Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Apparently Whelen still owns Wigan so i've heard, so that would rule him out. Unless a deal to sell Wigan is in the pipeline.
Billy Castell Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Well, he's ex-Burnley, and they're not that far away. I am assuming he's from the local area. It could be Wayne Hemmingway or Jim Bowen though.
EwoodGlory Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 It could be Wayne Hemmingway Maybe thats why theres no news on the kits, he may be designing a new one
Fife Rover Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 It could even be Theno! Now there's a thought. Stand by for Rovers to change their name to Lancashire Utd.

ace Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 That's it! Dave Whelan is taking over..we are merging with Wigan..renamed as Lancashire United ..we palyt alternate home matches at wigan/ewwod and the final piece of evidence ..Wayne heminway takes over the club shop and redesigns our kit!
1864roverite Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Its all getting very interesting. Time for a beer me thinks
