[Archived] Rovers Sold ??

One of the things he does have in his favour is his age. If he does head a takeover and he is a life long fan, he could be around for a very long time, ensuring the clubs stability from the very top for years to come.

How old is he?

Soccerbase has the following fugures for the last few years (not 100% accurate but pretty close)

In

06/07 11,200,000

05/06 5,500,000

04/05 4,800,000

Out

06/07 4,600,000

05/06 6,000,000

04/05 6,550,000

So last season was the first time we actually spent more than we receieved in transfer fees.

To be honest those 06/07 figures weren't my recollection of last season's dealings. I thought we maintained the pattern of balancing the books extremely carefully.

Summer

Out:

Bellamy 6m

Kuqi 2.5m

Total 8.5m

In:

Benni 2.5m

Roberts 3m

Ooijer 2m

Jeffers free

Total 7.5m

January:

Out:

Neill 2.5m

In:

Warnock 1.5m

Dunn 1m (plus eventual add ons)

Samba 500k

Berner nominal fee/free

Total 3m

Season total out 11m Season total in 10.5m plus anything for Berner

As has been said earlier I think that the track record of the current Rovers board tells us that they wouldn't sell the club for the sake of it.

I feel confident that if they sanction a sale it will be because it is in the best interests of the club. We really can't ask for anymore than that.

I can see no evidence that "the Walkers no longer want us".

The trustees are applying Jack's will just as a new generation of trustees will be administering it thirty years from now in all probability.

Jack had the foresight to see that times would come when other people might do better for Blackburn Rovers than his Trust is empowered to and has made provision accordingly. The Trustees probably would be failing in their duty not to investigate a change of ownership now when the change in EPL fortunes predicate many seemingly willing investors. Equally they would probably be failing their duty of trust if they allowed the sort of thing the Glazers are getting up to down the road at OT.

That's my educated guess anyway.

Very interesting point emerges there, philipl. Namely, just how deeply did Jack's will enshrine and ensure the future of the club. Something only those right at the heart of the matter will know.

The current trustees clearly have a duty - because of Jack's legacy - to absolutely safeguard the future of the club.

Question is - did his legacy go so far as to insist that a similar safeguard is a mandatory condition for anyone choosing to buy out the trustees?? Ie - the clause to protect the future of Rovers must get passed on as part of the deal.

Have seen something similar close to where I work in West London, where the old Guinness brewery land enshrined the principle of providing a social venue for the benefit of all local residents. That used to mean open access (ie free membership) for locals to the Guinness Staff and Social club.

Now, sure enough, Bellway Homes have had to integrate a similar social venue into their multi-million quid housing development which is on the exact same bit of land.

If Jack managed to safeguard the future of our club to a similar extent, not only would it show amazing foresight, but it would put the already extraordinary gifts of the Premiership, Brockhall and Ewood slightly into the periphery.

However strong it may be, and however far the "safety" clause gets passed down (or sold along), the legacy clearly remains, and looks like it could be the decider between yeah or nay with this offer.

I understand the housing contracts are in West Africa, including Nigeria.

Hope he's not fallen for one of the scams which some Nigerians are notorious for!!!

Nothing to worry about there,Williams knows the score,he was born and bred in Lytham St Annes!!!

Any more Rovers fans out there born and bred in Lytham?

A slight diversion - It's being reported on Reuters this morning the Citeh are recommending bid by the former Thai PM

LONDON, June 21 (Reuters) - Premier League soccer club

Manchester City said on Thursday it had backed a 81.6 million

pounds ($162.6 million) bid from a vehicle led by former Thai

prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

The club said its board intended to recommend the bid from UK

Sports Investments, a vehicle indirectly controlled by Thaksin

Shinawatra and his son and daughter, Panthongtae and Pintongta

Shinawatra.

I wonder if the FA will actually do anything regarding "Fit and Proper" ownership rules especially regarding the allegations of him siphoning off a significant amount of the Thai economy into his own bank accounts ?

I hope D Williams doesnt get rid of John Williams. Also Bring tony parkes back, even if its as a cleaner!

Dear God! Haven't you realised yet that part of the problem at Rovers was Tony Parkes. It was telling that one of the first things Hughes (who had been here as a player and therfore knew the set-up) did was to sack him. I thought that was about 3 managers overdue. Nice bloke. NOt a positive influence IMHO

Jack always said, one day the club would have to stand on it's own feet. He did also say that becoming a PLC might be the way forward for rovers.

"And if he isn't the one who takes over I don't get my million quid introduction fee"

Why do you always have to be so negative? Do you not think that, perhaps, as a former director, vice chairman and present Rovers fan that he could be bieng sincere?

You were probably whinging when Jack Walker took over...

Don't be so ridiculous.

We will end up being sold to someone and I am fully behind a sale to the right people.

However I've seen no firm evidence yet to suggest this particular expression of interest, would fall into that category.

I'm not saying Williams is the right or wrong man to take us over, I don't feel I know enough despite what we've seen in the last week to make that judgement. I'd imagine Hubert has a little bit of integrity given that he's been a director and vice chairman...

It's boring reading you criticise all the time, like you did with Kamy last weekend...

Well im with RB on this one.

In the famous words ................"Show me the MONEY!"

Im not interested in billion dollar west african social housing contracts  lets see whos really behind this then we can judge.

Walters opinion counts not a single jot with me - the directors of the 60/70s didnt exactly achieve great success did they!?

Why do these people just seem to appear when there's money "on the table"? or waiting in a nigerian bank account as the case may be (may be Walter's had one of them emails ....... )

Damage, I'm not sticking up for D Williams, some of the things he said are worrying, some good but I imagine what he does/doesn't say to the LET is not representative of the talks with John Williams (who i'm 100% sure is looking after us well) and the Trustees. These are what are important and we won't know about how these have gone for a while...

I suppose we'll get a range of views on here.

From my perspective too many people are optimistic without any real justification for it.

Some may call me a pessimist or a cycnic but I prefer to see some evidence!

I don't really have any understanding of the detail or short/long term motives of the trustees and trustfund, its mechanisms and covenants, the trustees, who they are or how they are remunerated, the "walker-family", John Williams & other board members, Walter Hubert (who? maybe Bob Crompton will appear from beyond to get involved? now he had a bob or two), Dan Williams, his invisible friends and african connections

What I do understand is that many rovers supporters desperately want to see the club progress and win stuff, so its only natural that they want to see all positives in this "takeover". However in the enthusiasm we mustnt throw-out the baby with the bath water! Read what has been stated and there is no money for new players in this bid - just profit for the VCs with BRFC as cash-cow.

People say that the trust/walker family want rid - how do they know?? I would rather stay as we are with small but significant subsidy from the trust than be milked and stripped by new owners. What can they do to increase revenue that the current management team cant? Oh they're going to keep the management team so its not even relevant!!

Good old WH says that DW has been to 2 or 3 matches this season but I would guarantee they were around March/April rather than August/September. Wonder why the sudden interest. Maybe we could subject DW to a live Q&A session to test the real depth of his being a "lifelong fan". He may do reasonably well if hes been reading Walters books though!

Yes I am a cycnic but CHANGE isnt ALWAYS a good thing. Open your eyes people and ask the hard questions, please dont take everything on trust.

Would you let a door-knocker repair your roof without checking references?

Would you let your teenage daughter go on a blind date without asking a few questions?

In my humble opinion, we are a small club with relatively low worldwide appeal and have done extremely well to find somebody with enough gumption to put together anything like a package that this one suggests it is.

DW is yet to reveal his backers which is understandable but it seems to me this guy has done an incredible job to sell us to these guys and the bloke should be commended not vilified.

All this "Show me the money" nonsense is bordering on childish at this early stage, it is quite correct that the complexities should be kept quiet for the time being.

As yet nothing has me worried about this takeover, DW has himself pledged that we will have money to spend to maintain a top ten position, money being something we have not had for some time so as far as I am concerned there is nothing, as yet, to worry about.

Why is it that everyone's either a hard-bitten cynic who thinks this man is a charlatan, or a starry-eyed dreamer of an optimist who takes everything on faith?

Why is it not possible to keep an open mind on things since we do not have sufficient information on which to make a decision?

If this guy is genuine and good for BRFC and takes over then they'll be a few people with egg on their faces.
